Alright, so I want to be as clear as I can with this. I was wrong with there being 2 Shadows. Many people have mentioned the mistake, referenced Shadow the Hedgehog, showed me the quote, and explained when it happens in the timeline. I greatly appreciate the corrections and am sorry to have made such an error in the video. I based what I put in the video from my own memories of all of Sonic Heroes, the promotional materiel for Shadow the Hedgehog, and my own belief from back then that Shadow the Hedgehog was set in the future of the Sonic timeline for it to make sense (also to be clear I didn't finish Shadow the Hedgehog so I've been thinking what I said in the video was true for a very long time). This isn't really an excuse as I did a good amount of research when preparing and writing the script for this to be sure that I didn't make any errors if I could help it. Hope you all can forgive my mistake and hopefully it won't take away from the video as a whole D:

I think that he is sonic, but not from mania I think he is from his own timeline where he is corrupted by Eggman and turns into Infinite. Or that Eggman is actually trying to save the world and Sonic is standing in his way.
Yeah. His true backstory is that he was part of Eggman’s empire in a squad I can’t remember the name of. But he alone had an encounter with Shadow who beat him to a pole. After Shadow left, Infinite saw his hands shaking being in fear and refused to believe it. Then he hid his face in that mask and gained the power of the phantom ruby to warp the realities of the indiviual people he goes after
That was his original name when he was in his concept phase info from the sonic wikipedia anyway his name was change to infinite its supposed to represents the nature of the phantom ruby initially named the valtron
Maybe Mephiles' body was warped, but his mind remained intact. Maybe he still held on to a shred of Solaris' time powers and retreated to a different time, the time where Sonic Forces takes place. He takes on a different name and then, due to his ability to take the form of probably anyone, he got a new body. He would then manipulate previous villains/antagonists to fight against Sonic, yet again. This theory might be possible, but then again, maybe not. But that's what theories are for.
Honestly I think Sega needs to give Infinite more of a backstory he is probably one of it's most famous characters and we get the absolute bare minimun when it comes to his backstory in Episode Shadow which was like 3 levels and cutscenes long not to mention how short Forces was and how little screen time he got in it!
One: Infinite is NOT Mephiles. Two: He's NOT Mania Sonic. Three: He's a jackel in Episode Shadow. Four: He wear a mask to find his identity because Shadow call him weak or maybe of his scar on his right side of his face. And finally his real us Zero, Zero the Jackel.
I really do think they are setting him up to have some twist since they designed him with a mask. I really think they will have something even if its not what I considered. Really excited overall to see the story in Forces and more of Infinite's character as he seems really interesting to me :D
finkel productions I'm very sure that Classic Sonic in Forces is the same as the one in Mania. The one in Mania is the same one as the one in the classic games back in the day. The one in Generations was just a past version of Modern Sonic so that means Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are from different Dimensions. This is backed up by that one line Eggman says to Classic Sonic about him being a pint sized Sonic from another dimension. What I don't get is if Eggman used the Ruby to send Modern Sonic away somewhere or if he did it with some other means
Infinite was once a jaccal, named zero. He was a clone with a black heart and the wish to be the ultimate form of life. He faced of shadow, but he had no chance against the king of Chaos. Later, he fought again and lost twice, this time he was so badly harmed that the Doctor had to make him a cyborg. And he gave him the phantom ruby, a stone with unbelivable power, even for the sonic worlds. And that's were the story begins...
I think it goes without saying that this video made Infinite out to be much more interesting than what he actually turned out to be. I am aware that this wasn't even close to being true but I find speculation like this really engaging bc it shows u how much can be done with the sonic universe. I just figured it all out, Sonic CD has a secret on sound test, the fun is infinite ♾, (INFINITE)! Sonic Mania is in Sonic Cd, then vame glitched Tails, then Infinite is in Sonic CD! Then he has the power of the phantom ruby!
Oh, don't worry about it. I plan on trying to play through all (or at least as many as I can) of the "Modern" Sonic games before the release of Forces on my stream anyway. It's cool to see there's something I missed in Unleashed even if it is from Chip >.>
yes but remember what they said in the first few episodes of sonic X the show, they stated that each emerald has INFINITE POWERS and with enough emeralds you can time travel these are powers that the god of darkness dosent have and HECK SONIC BEAT THE GOD OF DARKNESS AS SUPER SONIC ,ring a bell anyone? (also if time travel is possible why dont the characters take all the emeralds then go to the past and then collect them again)
Oh that's very interesting. I won't lie to you that I haven't finished Shadow the Hedgehog all though I've owned it since it came out. I personally just remember the promotional materials stating he was the one from Adventure 2 from back then. I do plan on going back to it and finishing it eventually and I think it's much nicer that there's only 1 Shadow then. Thanks :D
I think one of the producers for the game stated that as to why shadow is on eggmans side, he said shadow has his own personal reasons, but I guess that's always the case with shadow.
There's only really two "Shadows", but they aren't Heroes and Sa2+STH Shadow, it's SA2 Shadow and Heroes Shadow(which means pre amnesia and post amnesia Shadow). Shadow after Heroes is still the same.
Well, don't wanna spoil anythin' but if ya know who 'Infinite' is then just go ahead and read this spoiler. Spoiler:DON'T LOOK UNTILL U KNOW!!!!! 'Infinite' is the ultimate mercenary of the jackal squad, who got beaten by shewdew(shadow) who defeated him(IN EPISODE SHADOW). So he did not want to be weak, or maybe he was very unhappy of his weak face so he gave up on it. He then got dat sweet mask! He then also got the phantom ruby, which can spawn in 'Virtual Reality(s)'. These things are able to change forms of things on robots(Maybe???). But then only humans can be teleported for a reason or be created by a person. Now these things also if touched by an enemy will make a 'fake' reality which is so real that you get bruises while in it. It can also spawn stuff in the reality(s). And also the phantom ruby (if used right) can also become an invulnerable ruby. It can power someone up INTENSIVELY! Aaaaannndddd, it also is the phantom ruby from Mania. Now i think about something else SPOILERS I think infinite IS the phantom ruby >why? >because as you mentioned they both have the same sound effects and they control time/dimentions and also the gem is in infinite's chest signifying that it is a part of him. I think that once the phantom ruby interacted with the chaos emeralds infinite was awoken.
pretty good one, I like this theory better, or to slightly rearrange your theory, maybe be manifested a physical form after making contact with sonic OR he manifested one through the abuse of the gem. kind of like in dragon ball gt where they overused the dragon balls and the dragons actually manifested a new form
It makes more sense for Infinite to have come out of the ruby, because when it interacts with the chaos emeralds, for a split second u can see like a glitch affect on the ruby, and what is Infinite surrounded by very often? Glitch particles!
So I wanted to thank everyone for joining in on the discussion; be that pointing out a flaw or detail I left out, agreeing with one of my ideas, or bringing your own ideas to the table. I'm not joking when I said I'm a huge Sonic fan. This video is obviously different than what I usually make but I honestly didn't know how to make content around the Sonic Universe that fits me (I don't really do Let's Plays and prefer to just stream playthroughs on Twitch). The Sonic Series will always hold a special place in my heart and I'm glad I've gotten to share that a bit with everyone and discuss it with all of you :D
i think you forgot a little detail that eggman states during classic sonics boss. he states that this sonic is from another dimension. the classic sonic from generations is from the past. i'd think that infinite was always inside the ruby.
Maybe infinite is some sort of sick cross between Mephiles and Sonic created by the Phantom Ruby... or maybe Sega & Sonic Team's ideas for enemies are just going crazy.
Something else to consider: Before Mania Sonic and the Ruby are transported there is a brief moment when the Ruby appears to have a pixelated effect over it. This effect is also shown on the recent Metal Sonic video the Sonic channel uploaded. So there's even more proof of Infinite being connected to the Ruby.
This is my thought: Infinite is a jackal but when sonic forces got put out Sega was in the making of sonic mania before they put out sonic forces. That means that the phantom ruby was in sonic mania before it was in sonic forces. They even have proof of it in sonic forces. The battle between infinite and shadow. Infinite at first wasn't merged with the phantom ruby when he fought shadow. So that means that they went back in time by using the phantom ruby's ability of illusion. But if that's so then that means there's a possibility that infinite never existed. You're probably thinking that that doesn't make any sense but think about it. Infinite was never in sonic mania but the phantom ruby was and since sonic mania is based off of Sonic the hedgehog one and 2 and maybe even 3 with new levels that means that we're playing with classic sonic instead of modern sonic. And when you're playing with classic sonic you're basically playing with the sonic that came out before modern sonic and since the phantom ruby was in sonic mania which is based off of the classic sonic series. The fact that it included the phantom ruby means that the phantom ruby existed before sonic forces itself and that includes infinite. So this leads me to my answer of who infinite might be. If you have or haven't heard of one of these characters in sonic the hedgehog there is this one character named Nazo. Nazo is a hedgehog like character that was created out of the chaos emeralds negative energy and has this ability to absorb negative energy to an infinite amount. Having an ability like that can be useful in a lot of cases he can also use the energy he absorbed to make a new transformation allowing him to absorb even more energy which can also lead to him probably having the ability to never age. So since the chaos emeralds had negative energy and positive energy nazo took all of the negative energy of the chaos emeralds to take his form. Which leads to my answer. Infinite never existed and we never even knew he was a character in the sonic the hedgehog series until the sonic forces trailers. But like I said sonic mania is based off of the classic sonic series and it also contains the phantom ruby so that means that the phantom ruby existed before infinite himself. This is the phantom ruby's true ability. illusion and trickery mixed along with dark energy and it also has the ability to create a world out of virtual reality causing it to have a huge impact on its prey. Since infinite upgraded himself he merged with the phantom ruby which existed before he did so that means the phantom ruby also had another ability which could possibly be that it also has the ability to control time itself allowing certain events to take place. So that could mean that it existed before sonic as well. So it's possible that the phantom ruby could've been in another game of sonic's or a different game that Sega could've been invited to work on maybe pokemon but we're getting of topic. So my answer to who infinite is: Infinite is a being that took the form of a jackal and was created by an illusion mixed with dark energy which could lead to the possibility that he is the phantom ruby's prey of whom to control time with and merge with in the future. That is my answer please like and reply and tell me what you think.
Infinite is the physical embodiment of all that is "bad" in the Sonic franchise, given life by the Phantom Ruby. He is Sonic '06, Shadow the Edgehog, the night stages of Unleashed, etc. personified in the amalgam of bad Deviantart OC's. So yes, you could say that Sonic is fighting himself- fighting for his past mistakes and paving the future for a solid comeback and quality gameplay.
I wouldn't say The werehog stages were "bad" just long and repetitive, it did get boring after a while but I still wouldn't say it was necessarily bad. Shadow The Hedgehog just went overboard and Sonic 06 will make you want want to go throw yourself overboard
One big flaw in your theory is that Classic Sonic from Forces has the same abilities as Mania Sonic, so it has to be the same Sonic. I think Infinite is the Phantom Ruby taking a similar form to Sonic because he went through the portal with it.
Or Infinite could be a 3rd sonic Different from Forces Sonic and Mania Sonic. Like The Phantom Ruby falls through time and encounters a version of Sonic in the Forces Dimension, BEFORE Sonic 1, and corrupts him. But because Modern/Forces Sonic has been exposed to so much Chaos Energy, and because the Emeralds themselves can manipulate Space-Time. He is Unaffected and same case with anyone who has gone super at some point, or was exposed to the Chaos Emeralds ( The Chaotic's, Eggman .etc) . So because of the Massive Paradox that would be that Phantom Sonic. He gets essentially Deleted from the timeline and gets thrown into whatever that vortex Mania Sonic was in. Eventually Forces Eggman discovers the remains of Phatom Sonic/Ininfte's existence and brings him back. But incidentally bringing back the timeline where there was no Sonic to oppose Eggman. Leading to the sudden takeover of the world by Eggman. And Explaining why Sonic and the gang don't know about Infiinte. Along with how Sonic wasn't able to stop him, The Eggman controlled world literally fused itself with the non-eggman controlled one.
If the classic Sonic in Forces is mania Sonic (which I believe to be true btw), then if Infinite really is a classic Sonic (which I highly doubt), maybe he's the classic Sonic from Generations. Generations' classic didn't have the drop dash, Mania and Forces' classic does, meaning they're the same Sonic. Mania Sonic is also from an alternate timeline (as evidenced by Green hill zone having sand instead of water and Eggman's line during the Egg dragoon boss fight), so maybe this theory works? I have no idea.
Classic Sonic and Mania sonic are entirely different beings. Mania sonic is the manifestation of the sonic we see in CD, and Classic takes place in the timeline. Thats my theory add on.
Imakuni BoomAtack not to be rude, but what is the evidence behind that? My theory is that all the classic Sonic's that we've seen (aside from the one in the original classics of course) are the same one. Why Forces and Mania classic Sonic are the same one is pretty obvious, but here's my theory on how generations' classic is the same one as well. As evidenced by a line early on in generations, modern Tails never went to Green Hill. When classic Tails entered the portal to Green Hill along with classic Sonic, it altered the timeline (well, to be fair, the timeline altered as soon as the Time Eater pulled the classics from their timeline), creating Mania's timeline. But then the question remains; when did the classics get pulled from their timeline? Well, it couldn't have been from Sonic 1, since classic Tails exists. But it had to be before adventure or 4, as then their designs changed to their modern looks. I think it's somewhere near the start or ending of 2 or 3 (I honestly think 2), but there is one problem with that; the fact that classic Sonic doesn't know who Amy is. And before you yell at me, this is evidenced in the last cutscene of generations (not the post-credits one). When Amy compliments modern Sonic by saying he did great, notice how different the reactions are. Modern scratches his head as if he's embarrassed, but classic looks surprised. And come on, you wouldn't forget a pink hedgehog hanging on to you, even if she looks a bit different. If classic had gone through cd, he would've put two and two together and figured out that was Amy. That's what leads me to believe that classic Sonic didn't go through cd. That and the fact that cd isn't on the elevator buttons in Mania. So, my theory is that modern Sonic went through the games as they came out, cd and 2 switching places (this was confirmed, 2 takes place after cd), but classic went slightly different. I think his timeline goes like this: Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic Generations, Sonic 3, Sonic&Knuckles (still don't understand y 3&Knuckles aint canon, but k), Sonic Mania, Sonic Forces, whatever game(s) come after Forces. Hope this wasn't too confusing.
there a lot of plot holes in that, like the design of Infinite, he has a tail like a fox or skunk, and that white spike like on the back of his head is really just hair, if you watch the trailer showing him and stop at some points, you see it connected to the top of his head not all at the back of his head, also the ruby doesn't make things bad, its who use it, its a unstable power of time, so when the Eggbot's got it, its energy but being touch in so long Warp them into a future where they all get upgraded to be their own, a future that won't happen, the Ruby's power makes what could be happen, its a paradox power, which why when Infinite removed Classic Sonic from the past, Eggman and him was not effected but the world was, maybe even Sonic's close friends who had been expose to chaos energy the most. which why Infinite must of brainwash Shadow, cause his full of Chaos and his mind would not alter with the time line, but also from what shown when Eggman took the ruby to little planet, its powers seem more controlled and more powerful. meaning it might have been from that world.
So my thought process was that the Ruby can alter his appearance enough to end up like Infinite is. I think the pretty drastic changes to the HBHs coincides with this idea as it's something that we know the Ruby can do. [There's also the Werehog who has a much larger body and arms, spiky shoes, and stretchable limbs that Sonic didn't posses before that transformation.] I think Generations did the whole "pull Sonic from the past and present and put them in one spot without one being erased" so I didn't really tink to much of it. However, you make a very good point when you think that Forces takes place in Modern Sonic's time. The Ruby being a Time Stone from Little Planet is also incredibly interesting.
the werehog was most Sonic body trap with negative chaos energy only, and from that story Chaos emeralds energys light and dark are link and it only say the 2 Gaia's are link to each other and the emeralds. so each time Sonic goes super he has the Light Gaia in him, and when someone use the negative, they get the dark gaia and become a monster. the Ruby is like a Time stone but also hold paradox in it. Also the Mephiles idea wrong but Mephiles is still in story, as Mephiles was not a fusion of Iblis that was the god of time, mephiles is a demon that power could hurt the god, they was using him to try make the god of time fo as they want, "as the king wanted to see his wife again and stop her dieing." but in the explowsion Mephiles fell from the top onto the god of time and took in the power of time from her, which left the one remain thing, POWER Raw Power, and cause she was born from a flame, she was fire burning non stop no control just pure rage. Mephiles enjoyed the power he gain and want it all, Mephiles Steal Shadow's to gain new powers and skills, his as to say a Doubledanger demon. Mephiles right now in Story is Stuck in the Secptor of Darkness still. if you think this is not right, then explain, HOW did the King already have the Secptor, it cause he had Mephiles from it and put it in the top of the machine to try and control the god of time. so much is there showing and people miss small details, you can see Mephiles on top of the machine as the king trying to make the god of time do his bidding.
I think Infinite is Tails. The fox like appearance, the tail that looks identical to Tails' tail. Similar to your theory, Tails could be corrupted by the Phantom Gem as well. Also, the one quote that stands out the most is "The little blue savior." Almost like he had a personal issue against him. What if Tails wasn't saved by Sonic in a separate dimension and wanted revenge against him.

What if Infinite in not Sonic, but actually the Phantom Ruby itself? Think about it - after the final boss of Sonic Mania the Phantom Ruby reacts to the Chaos Emeralds and opens the warp to Sonic Forces, while experiencing the same glitch effect like Infinite. So what I assume is that Infinite is the Phantom Ruby's somewhat "super" state. And let's not forget the sounds Infinite makes in the "Enter Infinite" video, which are the same as the ones the Phantom Ruby does. P.S. Sorry for the long novel, but I just wanted to share my theory.

This theory is unlikely, because the Sonic from Sonic Mania might just be Classic Sonic in this game, which would explain how he got to Forces, but I still think it's really interesting. Classic Sonic from Mania getting corrupted would be pretty weird considering there'd be 2 Classic Sonics in the game, but still if it was explained it would be pretty cool. I just think that Infinite *is* the Phantom Ruby, kind of like a Gem from Steven Universe, meaning his body forms around the Phantom Ruby, but that's just my thoughts

Oh, thanks for the tip. I've noticed for awhile that those were issues when recording but wasn't sure how to fix them besides being softer which I don't think would help the overall quality of it. I'll look into this though!

i agree that infinite is sonic and the evil was erased from him in that portal at the end of mania and the evil (along with the phantom ruby) turned into infinite and at the ending cutscene where classic sonic disapears and the evil is reunited with him. also, infinite is trapped inside the phantom ruby.
Infinite is definitely NOT an evil version of Sonic. Infinite has a fox-like tail and doesn't really resemble Sonic at all. I'm going to guess and say that he's the physical manifestation of the phantom ruby. With the help of the Chaos Emeralds (They can be seen circling the ruby at the end of Sonic Mania) and the excessive use of it by Eggman and Heavies, the ruby could have been corrupted and transformed into Infinite. Seeing how the phantom ruby has time travel capabilities, his name is very fitting. He is essentially infinity aka has complete control and manipulation of time. Or he could totally be a corrupted version of your custom character, but I'm guessing it's more likely the former.
Infinite is faster than Sonic, Sonic Forces involves time travel, Infinite can actually be an evil corrupted Sonic from the past. This REALLY reminds me of The Flash with Savitar, like Savitar from what I remember was a corrupted time remnant of Barry (The Flash) and viewed himself as a god that was faster and can travel through time like how Infinite can be a corrupted Sonic that views himself as "infinite" Pretty much a god too. Anyone else see how similar this is getting to the Flash???

This was brilliantly put together, dude; I think it's one of my favourite theories. It was interesting to watch since I have a theory that Infinite is a future Modern Sonic, so comparing my thoughts to this idea was a blast! You can also back this up with the fact that Infinite's eyes change to green like Sonic's (albeit not Classic/Mania Sonic's) during the video for his theme, as well as the rumour: "You've seen Infinite before. It's just not what you're expecting." Although the ending pose for Sonic in Mania's "good" ending leads me to believe that he hasn't been changed but merely transported to Modern's dimension, since it's the same pose Classic uses in the debut trailer of Forces. I think there is a 50,50 chance of this happening. On the one hand, you've got plenty of evidence to support this and it makes A LOT of sense. However, I do wonder if SEGA are likely to use an 'evil Sonic' plot... Personally, it doesn't seem like something SEGA would do, but that is just my opinion. I'd love to see that. Just think of the reaction when the Sonics (and the Custom Hero) see who Infinite really is! Either way, Forces is gonna have an adrenaline-fuelled story that we haven't really seen in years.

ok so i have a theory that goes into 3 seperate games! sonic generations, mania and forces. i forgot what evidence i had and if i even had some but basiclly, at the end of sonic generations the phantom ruby was inside the time eater and it was trapped in it and then it scattered through time until it ended up where it was before the Pre- hard boiled heavies, dug it up, egg man may have found it through the thing in the plus series (But it's non-cannon so can't be so sure) and thought it was a chaos emerald then sent them to dig it up, but it ended up activating the time power used by eggman in generations, sending them somewhere else and transforming them, eggman isn't effected because he had already been in contact with it before, not shown to us. So skip forward to the end of mania where M sonic goes through the portal to the future and different dimension, so before that happened in the shadow extra, infinite was trying to make himself powerfuller and eggman helped him, then he found the ruby and gave it to him and then tried to replicate it to make more i think (btw i haven't played/seen sonic in a long time!) to make him finally beat sonic, but he isn't able to use the power of it because it was a long time since generations and the effects may have worn off by then, oh yeah and they use the power of the time eater so he couldn't replicate it... it's 21:19 and tommorow im going to see the sonic movie! AHHHHH

What I inferred from Mania's True Ending is that Classic and the Phantom Ruby are sent to the future. Classic is in his initial pose from the reveal trailer of Forces at the end of the cutscene. I also see that from the ending of Mania. I'm still wondering who is is then and how he has the ruby or at least to powers of it. It's definitely possible he's just trapped in it and is released, but I hope they do more than that with him D:
McDareth, remember that parallel futures are considered other dimensions, as well, so going between timelines is interdimensional travel, as well as time travel. Examples: Future Trunks, Silver, Edgy Black Goku (cringey as hell)

Yeah, I know. I saw the pre-release comic and played episode Shadow in the game itself. I didn't know about another comic of him though D: I hope they keep using him as I think his design is great (though his motives in Forces were forced)

It could be tails from sonic 2 where in a dimension tails dosn't get saved at the end and eggman tortures him then the phantom ruby is forced into tails and tails becomes the host then tails gets corrupted and wants to get revenge on sonic for not saving him and i know infinite only has 1 tail but eggman could have done something to him keep in mind tails was with eggman for about 24 years . also he has the same white end with 3 spikes on his tail just like tails. coincidence I think not.
I don't agree with this theory for reasons that would take way too long to explain, but it kind of opens my eyes to more STORYLINE in Sonic Mania. I missed the fact that the robots were corrupted in the beginning cutscene
I think he is a former mercenary who’s squad was killed by shadow who then crushed him in a fight this sent him into a fit of rage making him throw away the old him in order to come stronger. Yeah, that was my mistake. I've played all of Heroes and didn't finish Shadow the Hedgehog. I always assumed from the promotional material for StH that he was the SA2 Shadow and the Heroes one was separate. I also assumed that StH took place in the future of the normal Sonic timeline. McDareth After doing some more research on infinite, taking your theory of the phantom ruby into account, and analyzing the lyrics of his theme song, a new theory emerged in my mind. Infinite is tails. More specifically he is an older war torn version of tails that has given into despair and has let himself become physically and mentally corrupted by the phantom ruby. Read his theme song, especially the second half. McDareth As to how he arrived in that time, I think that as a last resort he may have attempted to travel back in time to try and stop eggman and prevent the war from starting in the first place. Unfortunately, as he was traveling through time, he ended up getting caught up in the distortion that the phantom ruby created and ended up coming into contact with the ruby which then proceeded to corrupt him and turned him into infinite. Instead of stopping eggman, he decided to aid him and severely increased the amount of devastation and suffering that the world would now be forced to endure, all in an effort to end the war sooner so that it wouldn't last for decades as it did in his time. He wishes for everyone to suffer as much as he has, especially sonic, but not for as long as he has.
Alright, so I want to be as clear as I can with this. I was wrong with there being 2 Shadows. Many people have mentioned the mistake, referenced Shadow the Hedgehog, showed me the quote, and explained when it happens in the timeline. I greatly appreciate the corrections and am sorry to have made such an error in the video. I based what I put in the video from my own memories of all of Sonic Heroes, the promotional materiel for Shadow the Hedgehog, and my own belief from back then that Shadow the Hedgehog was set in the future of the Sonic timeline for it to make sense (also to be clear I didn't finish Shadow the Hedgehog so I've been thinking what I said in the video was true for a very long time). This isn't really an excuse as I did a good amount of research when preparing and writing the script for this to be sure that I didn't make any errors if I could help it.

Yeah. His true backstory is that he was part of Eggman’s empire in a squad I can’t remember the name of. But he alone had an encounter with Shadow who beat him to a pole. Maybe Mephiles' body was warped, but his mind remained intact. Maybe he still held on to a shred of Solaris' time powers and retreated to a different time, the time where Sonic Forces takes place. He takes on a different name and then, due to his ability to take the form of probably anyone, he got a new body. He would then manipulate previous villains/antagonists to fight against Sonic, yet again.
This theory might be possible, but then again, maybe not. But that's what theories are for.

finkel productions I'm very sure that Classic Sonic in Forces is the same as the one in Mania. The one in Mania is the same one as the one in the classic games back in the day. The one in Generations was just a past version of Modern Sonic so that means Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are from different Dimensions. This is backed up by that one line Eggman says to Classic Sonic about him being a pint sized Sonic from another dimension. What I don't get is if Eggman used the Ruby to send Modern Sonic away somewhere or if he did it with some other means

I think it goes without saying that this video made Infinite out to be much more interesting than what he actually turned out to be. I am aware that this wasn't even close to being true but I find speculation like this really engaging bc it shows u how much can be done with the sonic universe. I think one of the producers for the game stated that as to why shadow is on eggmans side, he said shadow has his own personal reasons, but I guess that's always the case with shadow.
There's only really two "Shadows", but they aren't Heroes and Sa2+STH Shadow, it's SA2 Shadow and Heroes Shadow(which means pre amnesia and post amnesia Shadow). Shadow after Heroes is still the same.

But then only humans can be teleported for a reason or be created by a person. Now these things also if touched by an enemy will make a 'fake' reality which is so real that you get bruises while in it. It can also spawn stuff in the reality(s). And also the phantom ruby (if used right) can also become an invulnerable ruby. It can power someone up INTENSIVELY! Aaaaannndddd, it also is the phantom ruby from Mania.

So I wanted to thank everyone for joining in on the discussion; be that pointing out a flaw or detail I left out, agreeing with one of my ideas, or bringing your own ideas to the table. I'm not joking when I said I'm a huge Sonic fan. This video is obviously different than what I usually make but I honestly didn't know how to make content around the Sonic Universe that fits me (I don't really do Let's Plays and prefer to just stream playthroughs on Twitch).

Something else to consider: Before Mania Sonic and the Ruby are transported there is a brief moment when the Ruby appears to have a pixelated effect over it. This effect is also shown on the recent Metal Sonic video the Sonic channel uploaded. So there's even more proof of Infinite being connected to the Ruby.
This is my thought: Infinite is a jackal but when sonic forces got put out Sega was in the making of sonic mania before they put out sonic forces. That means that the phantom ruby was in sonic mania before it was in sonic forces. They even have proof of it in sonic forces. The battle between infinite and shadow.
Infinite at first wasn't merged with the phantom ruby when he fought shadow. So that means that they went back in time by using the phantom ruby's ability of illusion. But if that's so then that means there's a possibility that infinite never existed. You're probably thinking that that doesn't make any sense but think about it. Infinite was never in sonic mania but the phantom ruby was and since sonic mania is based off of Sonic the hedgehog one and 2 and maybe even 3 with new levels that means that we're playing with classic sonic instead of modern sonic. And when you're playing with classic sonic you're basically playing with the sonic that came out before modern sonic and since the phantom ruby was in sonic mania which is based off of the classic sonic series. The fact that it included the phantom ruby means that the phantom ruby existed before sonic forces itself and that includes infinite. So this leads me to my answer of who infinite might be. If you have or haven't heard of one of these characters in sonic the hedgehog there is this one character named Nazo. Nazo is a hedgehog like character that was created out of the chaos emeralds negative energy and has this ability to absorb negative energy to an infinite amount.
Having an ability like that can be useful in a lot of cases he can also use the energy he absorbed to make a new transformation allowing him to absorb even more energy which can also lead to him probably having the ability to never age. So since the chaos emeralds had negative energy and positive energy nazo took all of the negative energy of the chaos emeralds to take his form. Which leads to my answer.
Infinite never existed and we never even knew he was a character in the sonic the hedgehog series until the sonic forces trailers. But like I said sonic mania is based off of the classic sonic series and it also contains the phantom ruby so that means that the phantom ruby existed before infinite himself. This is the phantom ruby's true ability. illusion and trickery mixed along with dark energy and it also has the ability to create a world out of virtual reality causing it to have a huge impact on its prey. Since infinite upgraded himself he merged with the phantom ruby which existed before he did so that means the phantom ruby also had another ability which could possibly be that it also has the ability to control time itself allowing certain events to take place. So that could mean that it existed before sonic as well. So it's possible that the phantom ruby could've been in another game of sonic's or a different game that Sega could've been invited to work on maybe pokemon but we're getting of topic.
So my answer to who infinite is: Infinite is a being that took the form of a jackal and was created by an illusion mixed with dark energy which could lead to the possibility that he is the phantom ruby's prey of whom to control time with and merge with in the future.

Infinite is the physical embodiment of all that is "bad" in the Sonic franchise, given life by the Phantom Ruby. He is Sonic '06, Shadow the Edgehog, the night stages of Unleashed, etc. personified in the amalgam of bad Deviantart OC's. So yes, you could say that Sonic is fighting himself- fighting for his past mistakes and paving the future for a solid comeback and quality gameplay.

One big flaw in your theory is that Classic Sonic from Forces has the same abilities as Mania Sonic, so it has to be the same Sonic. I think Infinite is the Phantom Ruby taking a similar form to Sonic because he went through the portal with it.
Or Infinite could be a 3rd sonic Different from Forces Sonic and Mania Sonic. Like The Phantom Ruby falls through time and encounters a version of Sonic in the Forces Dimension, BEFORE Sonic 1, and corrupts him. But because Modern/Forces Sonic has been exposed to so much Chaos Energy, and because the Emeralds themselves can manipulate Space-Time. He is Unaffected and same case with anyone who has gone super at some point, or was exposed to the Chaos Emeralds ( The Chaotic's, Eggman .etc) . So because of the Massive Paradox that would be that Phantom Sonic. He gets essentially Deleted from the timeline and gets thrown into whatever that vortex Mania Sonic was in. Eventually Forces Eggman discovers the remains of Phatom Sonic/Ininfte's existence and brings him back. But incidentally bringing back the timeline where there was no Sonic to oppose Eggman. Leading to the sudden takeover of the world by Eggman. And Explaining why Sonic and the gang don't know about Infiinte. Along with how Sonic wasn't able to stop him, The Eggman controlled world literally fused itself with the non-eggman controlled one.
If the classic Sonic in Forces is mania Sonic (which I believe to be true btw), then if Infinite really is a classic Sonic (which I highly doubt), maybe he's the classic Sonic from Generations. Generations' classic didn't have the drop dash, Mania and Forces' classic does, meaning they're the same Sonic. Mania Sonic is also from an alternate timeline (as evidenced by Green hill zone having sand instead of water and Eggman's line during the Egg dragoon boss fight), so maybe this theory works? I have no idea.

Classic Sonic and Mania sonic are entirely different beings. Mania sonic is the manifestation of the sonic we see in CD, and Classic takes place in the timeline. Thats my theory add on.
Imakuni BoomAtack not to be rude, but what is the evidence behind that? My theory is that all the classic Sonic's that we've seen (aside from the one in the original classics of course) are the same one. Why Forces and Mania classic Sonic are the same one is pretty obvious, but here's my theory on how generations' classic is the same one as well. As evidenced by a line early on in generations, modern Tails never went to Green Hill. When classic Tails entered the portal to Green Hill along with classic Sonic, it altered the timeline (well, to be fair, the timeline altered as soon as the Time Eater pulled the classics from their timeline), creating Mania's timeline. But then the question remains; when did the classics get pulled from their timeline? Well, it couldn't have been from Sonic 1, since classic Tails exists. But it had to be before adventure or 4, as then their designs changed to their modern looks. I think it's somewhere near the start or ending of 2 or 3 (I honestly think 2), but there is one problem with that; the fact that classic Sonic doesn't know who Amy is. And before you yell at me, this is evidenced in the last cutscene of generations (not the post-credits one). When Amy compliments modern Sonic by saying he did great, notice how different the reactions are. Modern scratches his head as if he's embarrassed, but classic looks surprised. And come on, you wouldn't forget a pink hedgehog hanging on to you, even if she looks a bit different. If classic had gone through cd, he would've put two and two together and figured out that was Amy. That's what leads me to believe that classic Sonic didn't go through cd. That and the fact that cd isn't on the elevator buttons in Mania. So, my theory is that modern Sonic went through the games as they came out, cd and 2 switching places (this was confirmed, 2 takes place after cd), but classic went slightly different. I think his timeline goes like this: Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic Generations, Sonic 3, Sonic&Knuckles (still don't understand y 3&Knuckles aint canon, but k), Sonic Mania, Sonic Forces, whatever game(s) come after Forces. Hope this wasn't too confusing.

there a lot of plot holes in that, like the design of Infinite, he has a tail like a fox or skunk, and that white spike like on the back of his head is really just hair, if you watch the trailer showing him and stop at some points, you see it connected to the top of his head not all at the back of his head, also the ruby doesn't make things bad, its who use it, its a unstable power of time, so when the Eggbot's got it, its energy but being touch in so long Warp them into a future where they all get upgraded to be their own, a future that won't happen, the Ruby's power makes what could be happen, its a paradox power, which why when Infinite removed Classic Sonic from the past, Eggman and him was not effected but the world was, maybe even Sonic's close friends who had been expose to chaos energy the most. which why Infinite must of brainwash Shadow, cause his full of Chaos and his mind would not alter with the time line, but also from what shown when Eggman took the ruby to little planet, its powers seem more controlled and more powerful. meaning it might have been from that world.
So my thought process was that the Ruby can alter his appearance enough to end up like Infinite is. I think the pretty drastic changes to the HBHs coincides with this idea as it's something that we know the Ruby can do. [There's also the Werehog who has a much larger body and arms, spiky shoes, and stretchable limbs that Sonic didn't posses before that transformation.]
I think Generations did the whole "pull Sonic from the past and present and put them in one spot without one being erased" so I didn't really tink to much of it. However, you make a very good point when you think that Forces takes place in Modern Sonic's time.
The Ruby being a Time Stone from Little Planet is also incredibly interesting.
the werehog was most Sonic body trap with negative chaos energy only, and from that story Chaos emeralds energys light and dark are link and it only say the 2 Gaia's are link to each other and the emeralds. so each time Sonic goes super he has the Light Gaia in him, and when someone use the negative, they get the dark gaia and become a monster.
the Ruby is like a Time stone but also hold paradox in it.
Also the Mephiles idea wrong but Mephiles is still in story, as Mephiles was not a fusion of Iblis that was the god of time, mephiles is a demon that power could hurt the god, they was using him to try make the god of time fo as they want, "as the king wanted to see his wife again and stop her dieing."
but in the explowsion Mephiles fell from the top onto the god of time and took in the power of time from her, which left the one remain thing, POWER Raw Power, and cause she was born from a flame, she was fire burning non stop no control just pure rage.
Mephiles enjoyed the power he gain and want it all, Mephiles Steal Shadow's to gain new powers and skills, his as to say a Doubledanger demon.
Mephiles right now in Story is Stuck in the Secptor of Darkness still.
if you think this is not right, then explain, HOW did the King already have the Secptor, it cause he had Mephiles from it and put it in the top of the machine to try and control the god of time.

I think Infinite is Tails. The fox like appearance, the tail that looks identical to Tails' tail. Similar to your theory, Tails could be corrupted by the Phantom Gem as well. Also, the one quote that stands out the most is "The little blue savior." Almost like he had a personal issue against him. What if Tails wasn't saved by Sonic in a separate dimension and wanted revenge against him.

What if Infinite in not Sonic, but actually the Phantom Ruby itself? Think about it - after the final boss of Sonic Mania the Phantom Ruby reacts to the Chaos Emeralds and opens the warp to Sonic Forces, while experiencing the same glitch effect like Infinite. So what I assume is that Infinite is the Phantom Ruby's somewhat "super" state. And let's not forget the sounds Infinite makes in the "Enter Infinite" video, which are the same as the ones the Phantom Ruby does.

This theory is unlikely, because the Sonic from Sonic Mania might just be Classic Sonic in this game, which would explain how he got to Forces, but I still think it's really interesting. Classic Sonic from Mania getting corrupted would be pretty weird considering there'd be 2 Classic Sonics in the game, but still if it was explained it would be pretty cool. I just think that Infinite *is* the Phantom Ruby, kind of like a Gem from Steven Universe, meaning his body forms around the Phantom Ruby, but that's just my thoughts

Infinite is definitely NOT an evil version of Sonic. Infinite has a fox-like tail and doesn't really resemble Sonic at all. I'm going to guess and say that he's the physical manifestation of the phantom ruby. With the help of the Chaos Emeralds (They can be seen circling the ruby at the end of Sonic Mania) and the excessive use of it by Eggman and Heavies, the ruby could have been corrupted and transformed into Infinite. Seeing how the phantom ruby has time travel capabilities, his name is very fitting. He is essentially infinity aka has complete control and manipulation of time.
Or he could totally be a corrupted version of your custom character, but I'm guessing it's more likely the former.

Infinite is faster than Sonic, Sonic Forces involves time travel, Infinite can actually be an evil corrupted Sonic from the past. This REALLY reminds me of The Flash with Savitar, like Savitar from what I remember was a corrupted time remnant of Barry (The Flash) and viewed himself as a god that was faster and can travel through time like how Infinite can be a corrupted Sonic that views himself as "infinite" Pretty much a god too. Anyone else see how similar this is getting to the Flash???

This was brilliantly put together, dude; I think it's one of my favourite theories.
It was interesting to watch since I have a theory that Infinite is a future Modern Sonic, so comparing my thoughts to this idea was a blast!
You can also back this up with the fact that Infinite's eyes change to green like Sonic's (albeit not Classic/Mania Sonic's) during the video for his theme, as well as the rumour: "You've seen Infinite before. It's just not what you're expecting."
Although the ending pose for Sonic in Mania's "good" ending leads me to believe that he hasn't been changed but merely transported to Modern's dimension, since it's the same pose Classic uses in the debut trailer of Forces.
I think there is a 50,50 chance of this happening. On the one hand, you've got plenty of evidence to support this and it makes A LOT of sense. However, I do wonder if SEGA are likely to use an 'evil Sonic' plot... Personally, it doesn't seem like something SEGA would do, but that is just my opinion.

ok so i have a theory that goes into 3 seperate games! sonic generations, mania and forces. i forgot what evidence i had and if i even had some but basiclly, at the end of sonic generations the phantom ruby was inside the time eater and it was trapped in it and then it scattered through time until it ended up where it was before the Pre- hard boiled heavies, dug it up, egg man may have found it through the thing in the plus series (But it's non-cannon so can't be so sure) and thought it was a chaos emerald then sent them to dig it up, but it ended up activating the time power used by eggman in generations, sending them somewhere else and transforming them, eggman isn't effected because he had already been in contact with it before, not shown to us.
So skip forward to the end of mania where M sonic goes through the portal to the future and different dimension, so before that happened in the shadow extra, infinite was trying to make himself powerfuller and eggman helped him, then he found the ruby and gave it to him and then tried to replicate it to make more i think (btw i haven't played/seen sonic in a long time!) to make him finally beat sonic, but he isn't able to use the power of it because it was a long time since generations and the effects may have worn off by then, oh yeah and they use the power of the time eater so he couldn't replicate it...
it's 21:19 and tommorow im going to see the sonic movie! AHHHHH

What I inferred from Mania's True Ending is that Classic and the Phantom Ruby are sent to the future. Classic is in his initial pose from the reveal trailer of Forces at the end of the cutscene. Also, Classic in Mania has the drop dash. I'll update this when I'm more awake
I also see that from the ending of Mania. I'm still wondering who is is then and how he has the ruby or at least to powers of it.
It's definitely possible he's just trapped in it and is released, but I hope they do more than that with him D:

It could be tails from sonic 2 where in a dimension tails dosn't get saved at the end and eggman tortures him then the phantom ruby is forced into tails and tails becomes the host then tails gets corrupted and wants to get revenge on sonic for not saving him and i know infinite only has 1 tail but eggman could have done something to him keep in mind tails was with eggman for about 24 years . also he has the same white end with 3 spikes on his tail just like tails. coincidence I think not.

I think he is a former mercenary who’s squad was killed by shadow who then crushed him in a fight this sent him into a fit of rage making him throw away the old him in order to come stronger. Dawning a mask to symbolise this and he eventually becomes stronger than sonic, most likely due to eggman experiments

this vid is 3 years old, everyone knows who infinite is, but i have a theory for mania sonic, sonic mania and forces are linked, so the end of mania where both sonic and the phantom ruby entered a portal, i think they both traveled to modern sonic's dimention where Zero the Jackle "Infinite" Found the phantom ruby it also is mentioned in a cutscean where infinite says "i have obtained the power to make others yield to my will" that just says that he was the one who found the ruby, as for the prototypes, i think eggman was trying to mass produce infinite so he would have an army of infinites basicly making a synthetic phantom ruby, as for mania sonic, i think that classic sonic is mania sonic, it makes sence as well because in that cutscean with tails and omega, classic sonic appears from a portal, but where does mania sonic enter? a portal, so i think that portal took both the phantom ruby and mania sonic to modern sonic's dimention, more proof is classic sonic has the drop dash, which is only present in sonic mania and if the phantom ruby grabbed any other sonic sutch as the one in sonic 2 how come he has an ability introduced in mania, but its just a theory, if anyone is reading this tell me what you think.

Yeah, that was my mistake. I've played all of Heroes and didn't finish Shadow the Hedgehog. I always assumed from the promotional material for StH that he was the SA2 Shadow and the Heroes one was separate. I also assumed that StH took place in the future of the normal Sonic timeline.
I've been corrected and know that I should've double checked this to be sure. Just was used to how I've always believed it went since playing the games when they first released. My bad D:

McDareth After doing some more research on infinite, taking your theory of the phantom ruby into account, and analyzing the lyrics of his theme song, a new theory emerged in my mind.
Infinite is tails. More specifically he is an older war torn version of tails that has given into despair and has let himself become physically and mentally corrupted by the phantom ruby. Read his theme song, especially the second half.

McDareth As to how he arrived in that time, I think that as a last resort he may have attempted to travel back in time to try and stop eggman and prevent the war from starting in the first place. Unfortunately, as he was traveling through time, he ended up getting caught up in the distortion that the phantom ruby created and ended up coming into contact with the ruby which then proceeded to corrupt him and turned him into infinite. Instead of stopping eggman, he decided to aid him and severely increased the amount of devastation and suffering that the world would now be forced to endure, all in an effort to end the war sooner so that it wouldn't last for decades as it did in his time. He wishes for everyone to suffer as much as he has, especially sonic, but not for as long as he has.
