    There is an interesting moment early on in this interview... this familiar idea amongst astrologers that astrology 'shouldn't work' but it does for those who put in the effort to look... like a tree that only bears fruit when you look at it and see all its branches. As someone who has found utility in this craft, there is a kind of deterministic 'must' to all the 'aha moments' we find while with astrology, much like 'the knowledge' appeared because we were willing to show up and witness it. Astrology appears to be a living thing that we spend time with... a collaboration with an ancient voice that uses our imagination towards remarkable visions. Thanks as always for doing the work Chris.

      @llupescu Před 2 lety +3

      I think it's interesting how this idea of "it shouldn't work, but it does once you put in the effort" links to quantum physics - a quantum object exists in multiple states at once, it's both "here" and "there" (the famous Schrödinger’s cat thought experiment); only when you actually do a real-life experiment, the quantum objects settles into a position. It's the experiment (or the observation, the measurement) that "forces" the particle into a fixed position. Maybe this can be applied to astrology as well (and to other divination arts, such as tarot, palmistry, numerology, etc.).

    • @middleburyastrology
      @middleburyastrology Před 2 lety +1

      @@llupescu Yes, this is a wondrous thought as well. I would only add, because the observer (the astrologer in this case) is also made of quantum stuff, we may need to step back from 'self and other relationships' to address the 'realm of time' itself as the collaborator in the act of observing the world around us in any given moment. This idea may encourage thoughts on fate and the intersection of lines already in place that time reveals through cycles = astrologic craft. Who knows... but they are exciting structures to work with :)

      The statement that it “shouldn’t work”, so make you seriously reconsider all of this. Especially when you then go on to state that you only get results after you have convinced yourself that it works. It sounds an awful lot like confirmation bias.

    Chris you speak clearly and thoughtfully
    I have come to like Hellenistic Astrology and see it as a useful tool and quite intricate. I don't like that Hellenistic is seen as _predictive_ and modern as _psychological._ I think they can be both to varying degrees each other's alleged forte..
    I'm in between amateur and professional as a chart reader. When l first look at a chart l do WHS first to get the overall feel of the chart then dial in PHS to get a greater nuance. I think it's the greater complexity, as exhibited by PHS, that gets me in. But without doing WHS first the PHS chart is harder to articulate. The other bugbear is that the Asc / Dsc line is not at the sunrise / sundown point as in horizontal.
    The Timing and Sect aspects are very interesting and quite valuable.
    Synastry makes more sense in PHS than it does in WHS.

    Finally got around to this one. I’ll chime in. 😁
    Hellenistic astrology is the first form of astrology that I didn’t get tired of feeling it became trivial. This is kind of a dual comment because I revisited another episode. It was mentioned in here a little. Trivial is much too harsh of a word, but I often found I’d just look for an answer and then sort of lose interest completely in terms of more modern psychological. Hellenistic often throws an interesting curve ball at points of lost interest, and the ancient philosophy is much more interesting than psychological approaches. They can still tie together, they wouldn’t exist if they didn’t work.
    The episode I revisited was on zodiacal release and I figured I’d chime in with 2 things with that. My zodiacal order is aries, taurus, gemini, cancer, then Leo. We’ll see if I get to virgo, I don’t want to temp fate. I know I was aware of the shift from taurus to gemini before it even happened where I used it as an example of “self fulfilling prophecy” while also finding it odd I tried to avoid that period and walked right into it. Self fulfilling would be sort of knowing I’d go into a 12th mode, the more I fought it the worse it was. Gemini is in 10th with only MC and there’s definitely a pattern where the ruling planet of the sign natal is active. Kind of a volume turned up. However, it’s probably more noticeable in my natal than it may be in others. Gemini, I know I’d “hole up” to work on some type of skill or education extremely isolated and then get back around to circles of friends etc. actually seeing that described in the zodiacal release is what took me off guard. It’s kind of hard to explain what I exactly mean by that in terms of ruler. Having mars and Venus in conjunction there was a definitive tone shift with a drastic left turn, but it’s also not overly dramatic because that planet is responsible for that sign anyways. It’s sort of like zodiacal remixing. People who knew me during those 2 zodiacal releases are who thought of me as a libra and taken back meeting later where there was still that but the volume of Leo was turned up. I’d be comfortable applying ruler while also saying it’s extremely complicated to interpret. In a cancer release I do know (even though Jupiter is there) transits with moon are extremely sensitive compared to other times. I’ve actually been spending a lot of time looking at those periods and events with how they link up. I could be an odd case where zodiacal releases are pretty much empty houses until cancer. Chiron in taurus, Venus was definitely very active. Gemini peak with MC, Mercury seemed very active. This gets tricky because.. if you wanted to apply aspects to MC it aspects almost my entire chart, Neptune opposite MC was definitely prominent during that time. The gemini period all over the place which makes me think aspects matter. I also view the cancer period active with moon because astrology seems very related to chiron.
    I’ve been looking forward to Saturn moving out of Aquarius but I started to get worried because the 7th and Ketu may get inadvertently turned on which could be unpredictable. Maybe this release is a good test/research period to see what’s being interacted with.
    Re-examining the outer planets, cosmos and psyche is making me more comfortable with a certain view that’s developing. I’m not sure how astrology fits into anything, but I’m actually really enjoying the Archai journal which isn’t surprising considering the whole writing thing. We’ll see what actually happens.
    I had this funny idea related to pop astrology with how its been kept alive through magazines and newspapers. Wondered “what if you put something out astrology based and then edited out the astrology where the reader didn’t know..” you’d just have a what we already have. Dead ends, but the brainstorming is fun.
    Coil - nature is a language off of the New Backwards album for saying astrology is a language. (Sarcasm, the song is annoying)

    Love the podcast I’ve been listening to so many and learning so much! I do have a question I was hoping would be answered in this video but I don’t believe it was, do you consider Astrology the study of the planets more like a map guiding us or as celestial bodies INFLUENCING us? Because I’ve heard it used in both ways like “Mercury causes this” or “Mercury indicates this” and I can’t seem to find any info comparing the 2 ideas. The technical definition I’ve found online mostly mention “influence” but another astrologer i watch says that’s incorrect?

    i agree with chris on this,since i sometimes feel ancient,or historical astrology is much deeper in view than modern astrology cause modern astrology seems so tied into psychology,and psychology is helpful,but with almost 8 billion of us humans on earth today,it seems to divide 12 seasonal points as signs into how we humans view stuff today makes astrology seem shallow,and how through so techniques it seems ancient astrology added depth,instead of just focusing on psychology astrology tried to go deeper,this is just my view,and through pondering i might know more,which i feel real indepth astrology tries to do,since with all the seasonal points,and spatial we,and stuff around us go through,indepth astrology is like a very large cake with many added layers,or like a skyscraper with many floors,it takes time to get down to what astrology is,and i feel skeptics are just jealous,and impatient with indepth astrology,cause one with all the stuff we humans research these days its hard to take a helpful knowledge system that's viewed as junk by some skeptics,and truly try to truly link what goes on in heaven with goes on here on earth,since all of us humans,and stuff born,and created has a birthday as stuff here on earth,this is like the old saying finding a needle in a haystack,it hard to define,and alot of it has to do that we have no way of knowing when something was truly created,unless we sit next to the group that brought the human,or stuff into our world,if most indepth astrologers were in a hospital,and saw the actual time a person was disengaged from their mother as when the umbilical cord is cut ,and they become a seperate person,or were in a place where someone created a show,or food,or other,and knew the exact time down to the probable second,then some the trends we find,might make more sense,plus since i was born premature i feel i was actually born earlier than time listed on my birth certificate,since being so small,the doctors,and nurses probably need more time to make sure i was alive,before they put in a icu,and connected me up to the machines to keep me alive,not that the birthtime on my certificate isn't correct just that since i was born earlier than i was supposed to be,i feel the clock time was ealier when it truly seperated from my mother,and i truly became my own human being,which is why if i had a time machine,and didn't interfere with stuff back in december 27th,1971,i might know when my seasonal points,then spatial points truly started,but one of chris's astrology theories he follows is profections,and how profections use age 0 as the actual ascendant then follow a jupiter return pattern,where every 12 years you get back to the 0 point as ascendant and go back around,so that stuff rhyms,not always following the same pattern cause as we age our seasonal points age,so when we are 4,if mercury become the active point in that year we have to probably add 4 years to mercury,plus look at seasonal birth mercury to decide how these 2 versions of mercury reflect our lives,with its retrograde,and other phases,mercury,and other planetary points add stuff to each year,we,or stuff around us age,so it becomes hard to define a trend especially for a nation like our here as the usa,since our nation is almost 246 years old,and plus we have some many seasonal charts when the usa was created,so we get many views,and how trends may manifest,and i feel if indepth astrology were researched,and appreciated by both us,and skeptics,like other stuff that's been added to science maybe someday indepth astrology could rejoin science,but then i feel fear of what indepth astrology shows might be one of the reasons its not researched,and appreciated,cause if there truly is a link between heaven,and earth as indepth astrology shows it might truly change the way we view stuff around us,and once that happens would most of us be scared what we found,since most of us unless we truly appreciate our group connections,we feel most of us are unique,but will the human population here on getting closer to 8 billion of us humans,studies are finding that alot of us are more alike than we 're different,if you guys watch a show called finding your roots on pbs,on one episode conservative,and liberal guys bill o rielly,and bill maher are related through their families,and when i saw that i was kinda shocked,but after pondering it for a while it made sense,since at alot of thanksgiving,and other dinners we find even as groups as families we each have our views on stuff,so in my family its best we keep these views undercover,so it doesn't cause friction especially at very sensitive dinners,and stuff,since if thanksgiving is meant to be thankful,it doesn't help any of us if we get into a fight over many views of stuff,sorry for this long view of this stuff,just bringing my views,and pondering to this very fascinating subject,which i feel is much deeper than even we who study,and practice astrology know,maybe someday both sides of the view on indepth astrology come to some appreciation,since i've found this subject is very helpful,and hopefully you guys do as well.

    When he says modern astrology needed to recover the fact they incorporated night/day into birthing charts (and did so only recently, about 30 years, according to him). Is he not saying that there must be a massive multi-century disparity in the accuracy of astrology as a practice? In a study of celestial bodies and pattern recognition it seems like a massive oversight. According to him everything between Ancient astrology and post-1990s astrology didn't consider a primary function of the closest star. He claimed it would change things in a very significant way. Also, when he discusses Time-Lords techniques he seems to switch between calling them a set of techniques and then as a singular technique that he uses. Maybe he just forgot to name the specific technique he prefers. Just seems like very loose language for someone writing books on the subject.

    It’s always staggered me how disinterested astrologers are in offering an explanation of why these distant planets influenced human behaviour, and historical epochs. We astrologers might agree that even though it seems to work, do we really know why it works, It’s my sense that the only explanation is that our solar-soul system is a living breathing self conscious organism, a 360 degrees sphere of psycho-mythic signifiers, or in other words it’s alive. The As above So below thing a definition of that one essential being.
