Travel With Melon No, I would love to though! Some day soon 🙏. I live in LA, California, however, we miss that rich architectural/civic history that Belgium/Europe has been known for. I went to Gent to see The Lamb of God. Amazing. Also, I had a waffle while I was there. Delicious. I'm so glad I went -- Gent is fantastic!

About the 'mad' king...Charles V, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, and also known als Carlos I of Spain, ruler of the Low Countries due to his Habsburg heritage, faced a revolt in 1539 after new taxes raised by his sister, who governed this region (present Belgium and the Netherlands). After sending in troops in 1540, the most important persons of the city had to beg Charles for forgiveness. About 25 ring leaders got executed, the others had to walk on bare feet and with a noose around their neck through the city to show they deserved to get strung up for their revolt, but got spared by a 'benevolent' ruler.
Charles also took away the city rights of the place he was born in 40 years earlier, and a stronghold was built to keep an eye on the rebellious citizens of Ghent.

I love Gent. Loved your Maroco vlogs. Too bad every country you visit is red COVID advice for people from Holland. I will visit Belgium again, when the pandemic is over. I can’t afford a 2 week quarantine after a weekend trip Belgium. The world has changed so much. I learned to appreciate the beautiful spots in my home country , Holland has some real nice places, and tourism is down so lots of places to enjoy without the mass tourism

I have a Dutch and an American passport but it has been hard during the pandemic to make this trip possible.
