  • Ghent Festival (Gentse Feesten) is an amazing 10 day event occurring in Ghent, Belgium every July. #travel #festival #event #belgium #ghent #travelvlog
    Ghent closes off the center of the city and sets up a massive festival with food, drink, rides, games, and performances of all types. It's completely free to walk into the event and enjoy the performances!
    We had an amazing time exploring, partying to the music, watching a variety of dances, chatting with locals and discovering all of Belgium's buskers. As a note, many of the verbal performances like the comedy shows are in Dutch. This is the best way to experience Ghent!

    if you ever go back there, a little bit of advice, instead of going down the long road perpendicular to the station you can take the road running to the left of it, essentially taking the left side of the big cornerbuilding , that road will run towards a park, you just go in there and run straight ahead, until you go trough the art campus and end up on the following street, then just follow it leftward, and eventually you'l get to the overpoort from where the center is just one straight trek
    or, you know, you can use the bus or tram

    Pro tip: if you only come for 1 or 2 days, come in the beginning. 10days of partying, spilling beer and irish coffee leaves a trace. And a smell if it didn't rain. Especially at the Vlasmarkt.

    right now they are having Ghent foodfestival, essentially foodtrucks + stands organised by the restaurants in the city and let me tell you it's top notch, want Japanese food, go to currychiwa, the cheff went to a Tokyo cooking academy to learn his craft , want Nepalese, Indian, Chinese
    and offcourse the classic supreme hearthy burgundian food that we are known for.
    there were even American newcomers it seems, never saw a restaurant use so many flags. all the food is supreme quallity
    but the best part may still be where you get to eat it, either you take a table in the historic main square or you walk two minutes to the cannals, watch the architecture, te people and the cute ducks.
    if want to flex you can get a luxury several course meal in one of the little greenhouses on the square, (350 euros for 3 or so hours of fine dining)
    there are also workshops for both children and adults, learn about beerpairings, whisky degustation, growing and cooking with your own herbs, ....
    but the real kicker is that not even most students know the event even takes place, I only found out after 6+ years studying in the city, it doesn't really get advertised it's marketted to Ghent residents first and foremost and as such it's busy in a delightfull way, not to little not to much, the lines can take 10 or so minutes.
    If you read this, please let me know, and please if you ever plan on doing a Euro trip, especially one with family please don't miss this Flemish city (and whilst here, make sure to also visit Ypres and Bruges (every day at 8PM sharp the last post is held beneith the Menin Gate in Ypres, this has only been interupted by ww2 since it's inception, it will continue until each and every one of the men who's names are inscribed have had a ceremony, and remember that all those who's names are on there is a soldier who's body could not be identified, either laying in a mass grave, or who's body could not be identified or who's remains have just never been found, left somewhere around the Ypres salient)

      Probably because it’s hard to explain what de “Gentse Feesten” actually is, it’s a bit of a mish-mash of everything, thrown together in one fantastic festival in the old town of Ghent.

  • @feetpovlover
    @feetpovlover Před 10 měsíci +1

    Why do you call it "best kept secret" just as our town Gent was best kept secret of Europe? WE don't keep secrets. It's YOU who only did the effort to go only to Brugge, see?

      We had an amazing time at the festival, and we are surprised that we haven't met anyone outside of Belgium that has heard about it
