- Welcome Friends to Episode 233 of Mike Finnegan's Garage. It's time to open the mail and you sent some incredible gag gifts, heartfelt letters, and awesome tools and toys for me to play with. I love it! While unboxing a ton of fun stuff, I share brief stories about my life, including that time a dude named after a meat on a stick fired me from the Kibbe and Finnegan show. I also once again dive into the philosophical discussion about the Roadkill Mazdarati, try a bunch of awful Swedish candy and discover a new replacement for fruitcake. Aaah damn! I was laughing already when you said that "end on the high note" about the candy and you were about to throw in Jungle roar! Then your reaction made me almost die from laughing! XD The Jungle roar is a special taste and it's fun thing to give for people who aren't used to them for exactly that kind of reactions.

I knew it was The Wraith. It’s one of my favorite corny movies along with Maximum Overdrive and Christine. Those were regularly in the VCR when I was a kid, and still watch them from time to time.😂

I love those candys you spit out (Djungelvrål). We get them here in Norway too. Taste is (very) salty licorice. :D

Almost nobody outside Sweden likes Djungelvrål/Jungle Scream... I love them and the only candy you got there i like, really salty liquorice is the best but it's a "either you love them or hate them thing"! Bilar means cars in Swedish, it's an old candy from 1953 and still selling and i think they doesn't taste so much. The other candy you got is pretty boring candy from Sweden i think, we have the good stuff to.

The hole Goat and Pole Barn Garage is pretty cool. They bought a GTO that had been used for target practice for 30 years in Big Spring TX. They took it back to Kansas City, got it driving and drove it back to Texas to visit the previous owner.
You should check out Polebarn Garage. The Holygoat is the ultimate revival. GTO when from target practice back to the street. Bullet holes left, just repaired what was needed to drive.

I brought a large bag of Djungelvrål with me when i visited the US to watch Dragweek a few years ago, i had the open bag on the table next to my bed in the hotel and after returning from the dragstrip one day i found that one of the housekeepers had tried a few as they were a few tasted ones in the trashcan 🤣

Here in the U.S. MOST (not all) candy is sugar,corn syrup, artificial flavoring and added colors (fake, I know). I’m sure it does suck for most people out side of the US but here it’s our garbage.😂 I like to try authentic stuff from other countries. Sometimes I like it sometimes it’s too different.🤷♂️

Lol the Swedish candy rejection! Here's what you spit out,Mike: Djungelvrål are salty liquorice candy shaped like little jungle animals and covered in a light dusting of ammonia salt. The initial hit is a strong and powerful burst of flavour. The salty part melts away quickly to reveal the chewy liquorice beneath, allowing a sweeter, gentler, essence to round out the taste experience. The creamy zest is not as sweet as other liquorice candies can be, and instead evokes the root sweetness of liquorice.
Swedish candy doesn't seem to have as much sugar, so you eat twice as much. Also, their dairy is way better than ours. Amazing cheese, eggs, milk, you can get non-pasturized milk cheese in Sweden that is so good.

For the Mazdaradi 2.0, I think you should put a different engine in it, but still have it in the bed with boat headers

For the MazdaRati, if you want to keep the vibes of the OG truck, Big Block Chevy with a supercharger and boat headers. If you want to keep the engine cool run a trophy truck radiator in the front end.

As a Olds fan and owner I say yes go back with the Oldsmobile drive train but to be honest you need more than 5500 rpms to run 10's so unless you are looking to blow half the season's budget you may have to go with something different. Olds 350d block will make big cubes and stand up to 700hp before it breaks probably more with modern performance parts we rebushed the diesel rods for smaller wrist pins and rebalanced the forged diesel crank for the gas pistons and put 403 heads on it with a lot of spray and flogged that engine but there was 420+ cubic inch stroker stuff for them back in the day

The movie The Wraith is what started my car movie collection, followed closely by My Science Project and Catch Me If You Can (the car racing movie from 1989, not the Hanks/DiCrapio one). And, I recently found Two Lane Blacktop on Bluray and am stoked to finally see what everyone’s talking about! (Seriously, if this really is the greatest car movie that Car Craft writers claimed it to be, why is it so hard to find???).

I used to roll beer for Budwiser, we used dollies like that but without the brake. They were hands down the best hand trucks I've ever used! Our back shop guys would sharpen the blades to a pretty fine point so you could "kick under" big stacks of beer that weighed up to 500lbs. They were so sharp, though, that if you didn't rock the stack of cases well enough, that blade would slice through a half case of cans. That's a badass piece of gear!

"Flaming River" Is a reference to the Cuyahoga River when it caught fire in the early 70's! in the Flats in Cleveland! Not to far from Quigly Ave. Where all the Serious Street Racing Was occurring in the 60's & 70's a regular stop for folks like Joe Hrudka the founder of Mr' Gasket! Passing out samples of his new Gaskets little did we know we were witnessing History in the making!!

The gorilla candy is Salmiak (hot liquirice) 😁 very popular in Sweden and Finland.
As a swede watching americans try Djungelvrål(direct translation do Jungel Scream) is always fun i usually send them to my international friends as a joke. Is a hard salted licorice candy, thats very swedish. its the best candy out there!

I run a Stinger PimpX on my 2.3 Turbo Capri and it has provision for an SD card, so every time it starts it data logs. Super easy to copy the logs back to the laptop, even if I didn't have the laptop with me. I agree with how useful the logging is and a great investment if you don't have one built in.
My opinion on the Mazdarati would be modern drive train and go big, blower or tunnel ram and big boat style headers. I think that would be awesome and still have a similar vibe to the original.

Mike, Definitely make time to check out the Pole Barn Garage youtube channel. The Hole Goat build is more roadkill than roadkill its self. A GTO that was used as target practice for over twenty years. He comes across a real nice guy. Builds with as young son who is really keen. Its a new channel and he is finding his style and doing it well. You will love his low buck make it work attitude.

You should build the new Mazdarati in a similar fashion to how you guys did your engine build off during COVID. Build it using as many parts as you can that you already have. That way it'll (hopefully) have more performance parts, but still have the feel of a down and dirty build

LS4 and transaxle from a Monte Carlo SS in the bed.
Lots of normal LS upgrades will work on it. Modern fuel injection to easily control with Holley or Fuel Tech.

If I remember correctly, those big ass zipties are used for securing duct work in HVAC. At least that's what I've seen on the job.
It is possible to get a Toronado drivetrain to pull wheelies but it has to be changed to rear engine, not mid-engine. Friend of mine from long ago had a Porsche 912 with a Toronado drivetrain, I think it was a 425. It was configured as a rear engined layout. He reversed the rotation somehow, don't know if it was a reversed cam or something in the drivetrain. With all that weight out back it could pull wheelies.
Flaming River is based in a suburb of Cleveland. The name comes from the Cuyahoga River catching on fire. It was so polluted that it has caught on fire 13 times since the late 1800's. Unfortunately the fire in 1969 helped to create the EPA.
