Ryan Shirley thank you for making thip top! Your videos are inspirational! 👏
Why not Malbork/Poland?
@@menoflowicz he never been to Poland , so has has no idea about it, but even so he crated that "list" - no comment, hands down
I would recommend three places in Poland that I've visited and liked:
1. Gdansk
2. Malbork Castle (pretty close to Gdansk) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malbork_Castle
3. Krakow (the inner city is beautiful!)
In my opinion, there must be Tallinn (Estonia) in this list. I went there last year and it was a mind blowing experience. Also Krakow in Poland must be a beautiful medieval city.
Thanks Clay, I was going to add Tallinn and decided not to last second! 🤦🏼♂️ I’ll have to add it to part 2, what a incredible city!
Yes absolutely! Also Cēsis in Latvia. Baltics are so underappreciated!
You should put on your list: Toledo, Segovia or Salamanca in Spain. They are amazing medieval cities.
Loved it!!!!!! I am obsessed with medieval times and history! I have been to Europe several times and I am studying history a little bit on line, and would like to go back when this pandemic novel ends. I cannot wait to go back to my medieval towns. There are so many you did not mention in my opinion, like in Loire Valle, France, Chinon, and others, anyway, I will follow you. Keep looking up!
All good choices, but in Spain there's more!
What do you say about Ávila I think better option that others you Saïd, but actually all are excelente options.
I LOVE Toledo. Could spend a month there and not run out of things to see. And just a bus ride from Madrid -- easy.
The Alhambra perhaps?
Missing: the amazing medieval city of Carcassonne, France!
As a romanian, Corvin castle is one of my favorite places to visit ❤️
Also, whenever I'm in Greece, I love going to Meteora, that place gives me a very intense feeling, it's hard to put it into words...
Great job with the video! :)
That’s awesome you’re from Romania! And I couldn’t agree more on Meteora! Such a magical place
Another great video! Also props for mentioning the fact that Rothenburg is so well preserved because of lack of resources and development. Many of the beautiful old towns of Europe are preserved for this reason. Something oddly beautiful about the tragedy of the past preserving these towns and allowing them to thrive now via tourism. Also if you like Rothenburg and Bruges, I'd highly recommend Colmar, France. Combines the half-timbered houses with canals
Thanks Tyler! I found that super interesting, it’s kinda ironic that poverty helped preserve so many medieval cities!! 🏰
Not always. Some of the medieval cities are only appearing to be touristic. They are industrial hubs for high - tech industries. It takes more efforts.
I always click immediately your notifications because every video is like a new jorney. Love your channel
Thanks Gabriel! Means a lot, hope all is well in Honduras!
@@RyanShirley Can't believe you remembered! It's gonna get better. Thanks a lot! Hope you're able to do more of what you love (travel) soon.
Transylvania's castles are so magical!
I couldn’t agree more!
Cuz the castles built by Hungarians
@@GM-os6fo sorry boy,it was the austrians and germans, hungarians have no arhitecture
@@farngoggo4636 what u talking about xd a most cities in transylvania had hungarian majority. Romanians were only villagers who were brought there by the habsburgs Maria Teresa for example. The elite of transylvania and rulers were Hungarians always. The castles were always lived and owned by the hungarian noble families.. Hungarians lost their power dou the long ottoman hungarian war.
@Obergruppenstuppentruppensturmfuhrer SuperStuka let me guess it is this the official statement of the actual president of Romania?
Great video again☺️ Love all of these sights! A couple on there we still need to visit but would definitely add Tallinn to Europes top medieval places especially as Christopher Nolan just highlighted it so well in the new movie Tenet!
Ah I was going to add Tallinn but last second decided not too 🤦🏼♂️ I really gotta see Tenet now!
I’ve been to San Gimignano, it feels like you’re walking back in time!
San Gimignano is just incredible!
No way! I agree, it’s such a unique medieval city!!
I was lucky enough to be there when they were celebrating their annual feast complete with EVERYTHING MEDIEVAL! Market shops, games, trades...you name it! And a fantastic parade and show of throwing flags up in the air!!!! Wonderful! Thanks for reminding me!!!
Beautiful and of the highest quality.
Thanks so much Manuel!
You should visit Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic.
Wow, that looks amazing! Are you from Czech Republic?
@@RyanShirley No I visited that place in 2016. I fell in love with that place.
Amazing town I visited a few years ago. For Germans and Austrians better known with the old name (Böhmisch) Krumau.
Dinan in Bretagne is just a short drive from Mont Saint-Michel and the town's center is unforgettable. I was renting the upper half of 15th century house there, stayng there and walking the streets is a real time travel.
I just looked up Dinan and it looks phenomenal! I was just at mont Saint Michel so I’m mad I didn’t know about dinan! I gotta go back and visit
Here are my suggestions for part 2:
- Tomar (Portugal)
- Sintra (Portugal)
- Monastery of Montserrat (near Barcelona, Spain)
- Monastery of Assisi (Italy)
- Ferrara (Italy)
- Urbino (Italy)
- Mostar (Bosnia)
- Kotor (Montenegro)
- Shköder (Albania)
- Berat (Albania)
- Muiderslot (castle near Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
- Kasteel de Haar (castle near Utrecht, The Netherlands)
- Delft (The Netherlands)
- Maastricht (The Netherlands)
Amazing video :D i hope one day ill be able to visit those . It must have been a wonderful feeling standing besides these castles
Thanks mate! The majesty of the castles are hard to beat!
Lovely video, thank you!
Of course! :)
It's tough to narrow this topic down to a top ten, but you did a nice job. I personally would recommend Colmar, France. Lovely Medieval town with a canal going through the old town.
Absolutely. The Isenheim Altarpiece is one of THE masterpieces of medieval art. If you're into that kind of thing...
J’aime beaucoup tous tes vidéos...les prises de vue des airs expriment toute la beauté de ces monuments.
Thanks so much Raybil!
Amazing! nice video again!
Thanks! Hope all is well :)
Nicely done man, congrats
Thanks Julio!
I have just came from Malta. Old Capital Mdina and Valletta. Very medieval places. Walls, moats, fortifications, knight. It s like traveling back in time.
i can only visit those places in dreams.. amazing video!
I hope you can visit them someday :)
Rothenburg isn’t pronounced with the “th” sound as in English. The “t” and the “h” are essentially separated so that is sounds like ROTE n burg.
Thanks for the info! :)
Yeah, this was bugging me, too, a lot, esp. when he says it ten times in a row. There is no "th" in german, and the "h" is silent. Just say it with a "t" and the pronounciation is quite good.
Wonderful 👌🏻. Greetings from Scotland ♥️
Thanks so much Bruno! I love your country!
Never knew these places even existed! So freakin incredible 🤩
Thanks Isaac! There’s so many hidden gems in Europe!
And basically they are all propably the most known tourist attractions here :D Most of the time visiting these places is pain because the amount of people flocking there.
I'd also recommend Toledo and Segovia in Spain, they retain a strong medieval feel, they were both the capital city of Castile at some point during the Middle Ages, and best of all they're like a 30min train ride away from Madrid. Also there's apparently another one called Olite right around Pamplona if you're there for the bull runs.
Nice video! You should add to this list Malbork Castle in Northern Poland. It is the biggest medieval castle in the world, builded by Teutonic Knights.

This channel definitely has some of the best videos on CZcams!!!...🤙😎🤘
Thanks so much man! Where are you from?
For The next time try Malbork in Poland :)
I’ll have to check it out! Lots of cool medieval buildings there?
Ryan Shirley There is big I mean HUGE castle from Middle Ages. Probably the biggest castle in Europe but for sure the biggest in Poland. You should check also Cracow ( PL - Kraków ). Large Old City with cathedral and castle of course:) Strong recommendation!!!
I loved this video.
Thanks so much Rafa! Hope you can visit some of the places :)
Just discovered this channel great content very inspiring!
Thanks Jeremy!! Where are you from?
@@RyanShirley Hi Ryan Im from a beautiful seaside town in south west Wales called Tenby, definitely worth a visit if you go that way great beaches medieval castles amazing cliff jumps and world class treck Pembrokeshire coastal path. But now I live mostly in Romania which is equally breath taking loved your coverage of Transylvania by the way! Check out untamed Romania on Netflix if you get a chance increadible footage.

Thanks Abhay! Where are you from?
Excellent video and I visited some of them. In particular I liked Bran castle and churches nearby are very nice and I enjoyed them very much.
That's so cool that you've been there! Did you get spooky vibes in Transylvania?
@@RyanShirley since I heard the story, I felt little spooky. I have videos of my visit including Bran castle. There are many beautiful cities and historic buildings. By the way Bran castle is old and rooms are rather dark. But it is very beautiful. Nearby Sighisoara is one of the cities to visit. Peles castle is very beautiful and I recommend it highly.
Your filming skills are really amazing Ryan. We hope to visit Meteora soon, it’s on our bucket list.
Thanks so much guys! I loved your last video in Madeira!
That’s awesome, thank you Ryan!
Meteora is super fantastic especially if you choose to stay in a farther away hotel (such as the Amalia hotel...really cool!). Allow a few days to really grasp the sight! The rocks are simply amazing themselves!
Awesome! Thank you! 💕

Today I was in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and u just posted that wow😁
No way, what a coincidence :) How was it? I wish i was there!
"After Romania, we're going to head up North to Croatia". 🤔
It's down from here...I live in Hungary, near the Romanian border. Been down to Dubrovnik...Those walls around the city, in parts are humungeous! Try walking them in summer...not! Eger, in Northern Hungary is a quaint little medieval city. Not real big, but has a massive old walled fortress atop it. too, plus a Beatles Museum of all things! Also, down in Belgrade,, in Serbia, the entire corner where the Danube meets the Sarva river is the biggest walled old relic I have ever seen. It is made up of millions upon millions of bricks, all hand made, over 10 centuries. It is a massive relic of over 1,000 years of history. It is called the Belgrade Fortress, and Kalemegdan.
I am pretty sure that Croatia is west from Romania, not north😉🤔
Sibenik - on this side of the Adriatic no city has a larger old core, the city of 4 fortresses, the famous cathedral of St. Jacob (UNESCO). From the sea side to enter the city, you have to go through the canal of St. Anthony about 2 km long which is guarded by the fortress of St. Nicholas, also under the protection of UNESCO. Entrance to the NP. Krka 14 km away. Croatia is very beautiful and CLEAN. Šibenik is an old Croatian royal town from at least 9 centuries (It was built by Croats) with 2 national parks (Krka and Kornati) and about a hundred islands. ❤️🌞. DALMATIA is full of old churches (some more than 1500 years old) and fortresses from Split, then Dubrovnik, Trogir, Šibenik, Zadar and hundreds of smaller places (NIN, Primošten, etc.). in the north of the country closer to you Varaždin, Osijek, Zagreb, Vinkovci. CROATIA
@@antonijajelic2575 ...I love Croatia...the coast, the little islands and especially Split...with its creamy smooth 1,000 year old limestone footpaths. I love bobbing down and rubbing my hands over the stones...they have a special depth that you can really see by feeling them.
@Abdul-Hadi Muhammad Shu'Aib Makmod "West." That. I heard that and my head went: Really? I'm gonna have to google that, but I don't think so. Shame about that mistake, otherwise this video was much more interesting and informative and factually correct than I expected it to be.
Amazing Video Nice
Thank you! :)
You are splendid
I’m currently planning a trip to cinque terre and San Marino! So excited 😆
I’m so jealous! You’re gonna have a amazing time! 😁
Ryan Shirley thanks!!!
Better visit Amalfi and Positano... Cinque Terre is a big hustle to get in and out really.... I personally think it would have been best if I had done the sea view tour.
Wunderbar!
Transilvania has the beautiful fortified churches too (Prejmer, Viscri, Biertan, Malancrav, Medias, etc etc) I would have add Tallinn and the polish city of Torun. P.s.: Croatia is southern to Romania!
All amazing spots! Where are you from?
@@RyanShirley I'm italian, but did an amazing solo road trip in Transilvania, and I like to travel in general. Great video about the Alps by the way!
All of cities are breathtaking. Thank u for that!
Id like suggest u Avila, Spain and Lucca, Italy. Both have an increadible atmosphere. I was surprised!
Wow, Avila looks unreal! I really need to check it out!
Great video, thanks.
I've been to all but Greece and Croatia.
Vienden, in Luxembourg, is quite spectacular, as are sooooo many others.
Of course! You’re well traveled
Loved medieval towns
They are so magical!
Krakow should be on this list too with its castle and the biggest medieval square in Europe.
I should have included it! I’ll make sure to add it to part 2 :)
Loved to watch your videos...
The way you are explaining behind the scene & the drone make it sound like we are watching from a plane ✈
The Mont Saint Michel France 🇫🇷
Is a magical place..
I think it's the fort which has shown in

I was learning about the medival times In music class and my music teacher is a celloist he is a very good one
No way! That sounds like a cool class!
I loved San Marino! It was such a cool place and amazing views from the top of the mountain, but was super scary to drive up on the curving cliffside roads on a bus! :)
That's so cool you've been there! Such a unique country! I bet that was super scary driving up!
@@RyanShirley I unfortunately only stayed for a day so I want to go back again. Oh yes, the drive up on the tight hairpin winding roads while sitting beside the window overlooking the cliffside with a fear of heights was nerve racking, but so worth it! lol
You should check out Visby on Gotland in Sweden. A fairly small town, but one of the best preserved ones in Scandinavia :)
Nice jobs
I‘m really impressed with your recording. What software you use for editing?
Thanks so much man! I use Adobe premiere pro
@@RyanShirley Thanks for sharing!
Dubrovnik! King’s landing.😍
Such a cool spot!

I am a big fan of medival too, have been in moast of these places and they all fantastic. But if you planning to do part 2, you should definitely include Malbork (Poland), Carcassonne (France), Segovia(Spain), Spis(Slovakia) and Conwy/Caernarfon (Wales) those are my favourite
Than you for the good video. I recommend visiting and including the old Bulgarian capital - Veliko Tarnovo fortress and also including the Eastern Roman Empire capital Constantinople (now Istanbul).
Can I see all the medieval places of the Baltic states? :D
Your videos are quite amazing for real!
I’ll start thinking of a video :)
Sibenik in Croatia is a great Medievil location
Video suggestion: top 10 mountains in Europe?
I was just thinking that! I’ll start working on it :) any mountain ranges that you suggest?
@@RyanShirley Alps, Pyrenees, Cantabric Mountains, Dinaric Alps, Apennines, Black forest, Pindus, Sierra Nevada... There are lots of great mountain ranges in Europe
Great movie
You should check out Slovakia- it's such a beautiful country! Banská Štiavnica, Košice, Bojnice, Spiš castle and many more places...its history and culture is so rich. I recomend you coming there😊 for a better idea watch Flying the Nest's roadtrip videos from Slovakia🙂
Dang, those are all amazing! Are you from Slovakia?

Slovakia built up by hungarians.. it's artitecture is mainly hungarian.. The capital bratislava had 30 k hungarian 3 k Slovak 100 years ago xd kosice were also hungarian. City . Flag of Slovakia copying the hungarian flag
Rhoades, a Greek Island, with cobblestone streets is a favorite.
Been to San G and many more like it in Italy. They were all stunning but I loved Dan Marino!!! One if the very few relics of when medieval Europe was divided not into large nations but hundreds of city/states.
With all due respect to the Miami Dolphins and all the unwanted spellcheck bots, I'm sure the OP means SAN Marino.
2:47 - then Dalmatia, island od Rab (Arba in latin)
I don't know if the Alhambra is medieval but you should check it out, it's a very important place
Ah man, I've recently done some research on it and its incredible!
Had the chance to see some of these places myself and they were indeed amazing. Some others places I would add: Gdansk and Malbork Castle in Poland, Cesky Krumlov in Czech Republic, and Mostar in Bosnia !
No way, which one was your favorite? I just made a updated medieval video and included those spots! Cesky Krumlov is unbelievable
Go to Nuremberg (town wall and castle, Germany), Toledo (town wall and center, Spain) and burghausen (world's longest castle, Germany). Also Palma de Mallorca is pretty impressive (cathedral, center, Spain).
I have to agree, Toledo and Nuremberg are two places that deserve more recognition, especially from the medieval enthusiasts!
I want to see them all and more! I would need to stop working for six months in order to see everything in Europe that I want to see. Unfortunately need the money in order to make the trips LOL! Thanks for a great video.
Thanks Virginia! You could see all the places in a month or two! Hope you can do your trip! Where are you from?
Ryan Shirley hopefully but not for awhile. I’m in SC, USA.
Nice! Add Monemvasia in the Peloponese (Greece) , also the medieval town of the knights in Rhodes (Greece). Europe is actually full of medieval cities that most countries have made an effort to preserve .
Do exercise your reading so that the text sounds better...you have a pleasant voice , and finally the pronunciation (ex: Bruges is pronounced “bruj”).
Nice little trip! Thanks!
wish I could give you a thousand Thumbs Up !

Hey, you should definitely visit Czech Republic, Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Hluboka nad Vltavou and many more!
I got to soon! are you from the Czech Republic?
@@RyanShirley Yes I am originally but I‘ve been living in England for few years now
Czech Republic is in my opinion very underrated country by many, we have very rich history even though we were occupied by Hitler and then by USSR..
We have good food, good wine, good women and the best beer! I think we deserve more credit as a heart of Europe!
Mont saint was accessible at any time for a long time thanks to a dam. It has now been replaced with a bridge to prevent the filling of the bay with sand.
7:41 Traffic seems to move in reverse in Bruges. I must visit!

@@RyanShirley true! 😊
You miss Carcassonne in France!!
Ah I was going to do a section on it but I couldn’t find any footage from there! Such a cool spot :)
@@RyanShirley It's more than somewhat amazing that Carcassonne footage is unavailable. That said, in your original piece, I particularly liked the views of San Gimignano. Keep up the good work, but try working on your pronunciation of place names.
I should also praise the fact that you keep each segment brief and to the point.
You should check out Salzburg and Durnstein
For Italy (my country): Spedaletto (Pienza), Vernazza (La Spezia), Riviera del Garda, Chiusure (Asciano, Siena).. ciao!!

What???
Trade routes nexus north south and east and west
It very well was a quite big town in the middle ages. But the second largest? I don't think so. There is unfortunately no english page, but the matrix speaks for itself: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_gr%C3%B6%C3%9Ften_deutschen_St%C3%A4dte

Also it was only mentioned Mont Saint-Michel in France, however not the Palace of Versailles, the Palace of Fontainebleau, Chambord Castle and other Loire Valley castles, Fort Boyard, underground churches in Saint-Emilion, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Reims, Vezelay Abbey, Strasbourg, Colmar and Riquewihr in Alsace, Avignon, Monaco...
I'll have to make a part 2 and include some of these spots! There's just too many beautiful spots in europe!
I've been to seven of them -- several of them multiple times.
Which one was your favorite??
Krakow Poland can't be beat. Particularly at the town square and the Cloth Hall
I should have included it 🤦🏼♂️😅
For the next video: Castles at the Rhine River (in the west of Germany), Nürnberg, Burghausen, Harburg, Nördlingen (all in Bavaria), (and I wanna say Augsburg, but that's mostly Renaissance by now,) Burgenland (Castle Country in Austria), Falkenstein Castle (somewhere in Austria, I forgot), oh, and from the top of my head, Alhambra (Spain)...
And if you are at the Rhine, visit also Speyer!!!
Ryan, great video with great photography and info, thanks! May I suggest that when you visit places in future, you ask the locals how the place names are pronounced. Pity you've butchered most of the names of places you visited. Otherwise, well done!
