15 Most Gorgeous European Fairytale Towns

- Fairytales are something we’ve all grown up with… telling stories of fantastical kingdoms with often dark undertones… but, while most of them were created for entertainment, or to teach morals to children, many of the settings are, surprisingly, far more realistic. Most of the legends originated in Europe where, at the time, they were seen as fables based in real world places, and many of the villages that inspired these environments can still be seen today. It's time to grab your glass slippers, and be very wary of anyone offering you apples, or who live in gingerbread houses… as we take a tour of the 15 most gorgeous European Fairytale Towns.

As an Irish, having traveled all about Europe, Slovenia is so underrated! Stunning !
Slovenia is really stunning and definitely overlooked!
But I love Ireland 😁🔥🇮🇪
Europe is not thing
Because its modern not really long history.
Thank you!! I like Ireland too.
As an Australian I absolutely agree that Slovenia is naturally beautiful and unspoilt. It's Europe's little secret without hordes of tourists. Simply stunning!
Soon to be invaded by the third world like all these places.
Yes, I went to lake Bled in Slovenia as a boy - I remember it as just perfect, unspoilt beauty and the people were just lovely too!
Sadly modern architects want to ruin that beauty.
I visited Slovenia in August - small, nice bet nothing special. Overcrouded of turists. Kroatia more beautifull
Keep telling everyone how wonderful it is. Then it won't be a secret and there WILL be hordes of tourists! 🙄
Europe is so special and beautiful! 😍
I'm Scottish and I have to say that Germany is one of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited , so many beautiful small towns to visit. Really love going to Germany 🏴🇪🇺🇩🇪
As long as you don't neglect the great English towns ;)
I'm English and I would almost have to agree, but my trip through all the Austrian cities, towns and villages puts Germany's neighbour at the top of the list.
I haven't been to Switzerland but that also looks stunning.
Germanic people can be annoying and brutish but their classical music and architecture is the most beautiful in the world. .
@@NR-rv8rz As obligated as I might feel to extol the wonders of the Cotswolds, or the British high street as being the best example of commercial street design, I will not contest your statement lol, Austria is indeed very beautiful. Incredible residential neighborhoods, Germany too.
@@Cotswolds1913 If only they weren't authoritarian bullies. They would be the perfect people lol.
I used to work for Siemens and had many business trips to Germany. Loved renting a car and exploring at the weekends.
I just love this...yes, I poured a glass of wine, opened to full screen and simply sat back and enjoyed seeing my "homeland" . Thank you, brings tears to my eyes and memories to my heart.
Fortunate to have visited 3 on this list. Bled, Mostar and Hallstatt. They were all incredible experiences that I cherish to this day.
Chester and Stratford-upon-Avon (UK), Mount St Michelle and Carcasonne (France), Segovia and Toledo (Spain), Schafhausen, Lucern (Switzerland), Brugge (Belgium) etc etc etc etc
i am from sweden and been traveling a lot in Europe. some favorite places I have been to.
grožnjan and motovun (istria, Croatia)
Engelberg (Switzerland)
Chamonix (France)
Motuvun
Europe is outstanding in the world. I have been to more than 60 countries. Europe has som many beautiful places...
I've been to Europe several times and each time we visit the main cities in the given country (next month we're going to Budapest, Vienna, and Prague, for example). But this makes me want to visit these charming little towns.
Well, Hallstatt is 4 hours from Vienna, 2 hours more you are in Kitzbühel and another 2 hours to Mittenwald.
But the choice of places is just random, you can find the same pitoresque places on the edge of vienna.
Great video! Thank You! 🥰🥰🥰
I've been struggling with insomnia, but this video has been a great way to relax and fall asleep. The soothing music and peaceful imagery are just what I need🙂🙂
When Carcassonne in France is not on the list, the list is incomplete. This is truly a place where time stood still and is even on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. It has fairytale written all over it.
I loved Carcasonne & have been twice
I agree! Beautiful
Carcass one is rather well known. Still gorgeous.
Agreed. So incredibly interesting 🤨
Oh my gosh, word for word I agree. I go to France (from Australia) regularly to see family in Narbonne, every time I go there I go to Carcassonne. Every time. I’m drawn there. As I write this I can feel the sun on my face as I walk across the bridge (from the enclosed village) to the castle. I’m properly obsessed with Carcassonne 😍😍😍
This was absolutely gorgeous! Surprised that nowhere in Norway made the list, though.
From the top of my head, I can name at least 4 cities/villages who I think are more beautiful or gorgeous than a couple of those places (Berchtesgaden, Trogir, Amalfi Coast, Bassano del Grappa), but of course taste is subjective. I would have called that video 15 gorgeous places in Europe, but I guess the video creator gets more views with a title like that...
@@matthiasblum6555 I mean, “gorgeous” is, after all, an opinion.
This was such a fantastic tour. I found myself smiling the whole time. I tried picking a favourite but its impossible. I have been to Holland and Belgium and it really feels like your going back into time. These little villages are filled with feelings of magic and wonderment. You can't help but feel like there is a dragon always guarding the little town.......Great video, great narrative. I think this is the best one you have done so far, in my opinion. Really loved it. Thanks and keep them coming. :o)
Sintra, Portugal is full of mystical ruins and a magical road leading up to the Palace. Quinta da Regaleira was used for Templar Initiates and has a tiny Church on the grounds with an Illuminati eye. The whole town is mysterious and romantic. Absolutely love going back there, whenever I can.
There is so much beauty in lot of places. Hoping to visit these places soon. So far been to major cities in Europe, now need to venture to these hidden gems
Woww!..I always admired Europe since childhood...a very very beautiful places to visit...the sceneries..the town and people..everything is so stunning and perfect in Europe...I always wish I could go there....
Obviously not everything is stunning and perfect. This video is stunning, because it is a professional material on super-selected topics. Greetings from Poland,
@@maciejguzek3442 ...I presume that you have never been to Sweden. There is beauty in almost everything in Sweden. Swedish landscape in heaven on earth.
@@Bostonite1985 i have been to a lot of places, the only reason why i wrote my comment was to object to the statement that "EVERYTHING is so stunning and perfect in Europe' which obviously isn't defendabld
More of these travel videos please. This was a great idea
Sintra in Portugal is a magic place.
This is so amazing and stunning place.
So many beautiful places to experience. I have been to Sintra. That was literally like being in a fairy tail castle. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing. I have written down so many new trip ideas now.
15 European Fairy Tale Towns that are wonderful and beautiful to view. Cool!
Great video! I am from Sintra, Portugal, which is shown on this list. Its a very beautiful town!
Would so love to visit most of these amazing historical places.
I plan to visit in October!
Sintra is stunning!
@@Snaakie83 thank you! 😊
This is really beautiful
Stunning view 😍
Omg breathtaking thank you
I lived in Mittenwald for nearly 30 years. Very traditional. Worth a visit.
Ill give this list one AMAZING place it missed: Grindelwald, Switzerland. Went there this past July and its truly magical. Returning in December!
Visit Lauterbrunnen while you are there. Also Lucerne.
I left America 33 years ago for Switzerland, and yes, it`s a really nice place. For me it is endless here, always getting around quickly and totally in love. I know Germany well, my wife is German, and she is also in love with it here.
@@stevedietrich8936 Im going back this December. I had to get familiar with the train system and how to travel and i did. Now that i know what im doing Switzerland is my new favorite place to come to.
@@davidbalmer473 You're smart! Ill be back there to have a ball shortly. Any recomendations on where to go? I know about Zermat, and lucerne and i been to places like Zurich, Spreitenbach, Baden, and Grindelwald.
@@KingMK31 I live 10 minutes from Baden, by car. Lucerne 20 minutes on the freeway. Yahoo!!

Wow awesome 😍💚
Was lucky enough to go to two of these places on my first two trips to Europe from the US in 2019: Positano and Ghent! Still two of the most beautiful places I've been in my life! Loved everywhere I went in Germany, too! Can't wait to go back!
Positano is full of tourists
Wow some of these places really look like they came out of a fairytale. Stunning!
Great to see. I enjoyed to watch it and I knew most of the places and have been there. But also some places I did not know and definitely want to stop by at next time I am on the road here in Europe. I think number one place in Europe or the world in this category is Gstaad Switzerland...
Good one. I know it and loved it too. I do all of switzerland by car, because I live here, and totally love the culture and beauty of 4 official language regions here.
Can't believe not at least 1 city of Norway didn't make this video! Great video regardless..
Belive man, these are the top 15!
wow amazing i love this so much
WOW! Just wow!
Exquisite beauty!
A traveler dream!
💖THANK YOU💖
The Mostar bridge was destroyed in the Balkan wars in 1993. It was rebuilt in 2004 recreating the original style from the 1500s…
As an Indian iam literally obsessed with almost all the European countries it's my dream to visit atleast half of European countries in my life 🤞thier beauty is beyond words 😍
Nice to see my hometown Ghent in the video! 😃
We are trying to get there soon!
I was in Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp. All beautiful !!! Bruxelles...meh compared to these 3. Cheers from Romania!
Europe is a special place, with a culture and history that is unlike any other. And Im so excited to visit Pitcairn Islands who only has 48 population, It is sound amazing!!!!😍
Uh, Europe is not a "place" but a part of the world
History like any other 😂. Looted India and brutally killed so many innocent soul . And built their empires 😢Yeah indeed great history.
Asoka, genghis khan, mao, etc-just white europeans. Need to expand your hx knowledge
50 % from Europe are shithole s.
Since 2015

@@petergerritgroen3157 speak for yourself
I like it that The Netherlands has made the list, but there are towns that are, to my opinion, more beautiful towns than Giethoorn, like Thorn, Naarden, Havelte, Winsum, Bourtange, Haarzuilens, Hoog-Soeren, Oost-Vlieland, Schiermonnikoog, and Urk. And those are just the ones I visited, so the list is by no means complete.
Lake Bled does not freeze every year so check before heading there
Good list. But Norway is missed indeed. Plus calling a city much more beautiful than Venice is crazy. Venice is indeed a fairytale city! ❤️
I would pick Florence over Venice
Venice is shittie compered to German medieval towns
I would pick all of these vs Venice 😊
venice is submerging, dude! Time to flee that city and move somewhere else as in less than 50 years there'll be no Venice anymore. Sad, but true
@@blabla-rg7ky London is sinking too ... Venice is sinking because the subterranean fresh water was mistakenly pumped out by industries. It will recover slowly ...
Perfectly amazing
Beautiful. ❤️
Fun fact : there are 2 Positanos : this one on the Amalfi coast and Positano Di Roma,a beach town.
I thought some of those mediaeval towns in Italy would get a mention, so old but amazing also a few more in France they all took my breath away. When you see such ancient architecture going right up onto the mountains is just outstanding.
Stavanger and Hellesylt in Norway my favourite and most stunning 😍
Great video.
Missing: 1. Koblenz, Cochem, St Goar (Germany) 2. Chamonix ( France) 3. Bergen (Norway)
Obrigada por ter legendas em Português nos comentários. Maravilhoso isso.
learn english. portuguese bad lamguage.
I had been living in Europe for two years before 2010 but I never found a chance to visit these towns. However, I visited some of most beautiful places in Germany especially Strarsund and Grieswald around area. There is a very beautiful island newly connected by a bridge from Stralsund having a palace on top of the mountain we hiked there. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in my life.
the island is called Rügen, and is the biggest island in Germany
You probably mean the cities of Stralsund and Greifswald
Nice selection. Greetings from Switzerland.
Most cities, towns and even villages in Europe are 700-800 years old or more and have some monuments. This video is just a short snippet. You don't have to go to well-known cities, because everywhere you breathe history.
Wonderful place,
Nice video. Strzelce Krajeńskie in Poland, should be added to this list.
gorgeous!
And as usual Romania is underrated, somebody didn't hear of a medieval town called Sighișoara. There are others beautiful towns there but this one is the most visited.
Tão lindas. Parecem um sonho 🥰❤
Beautiful 👌
Wow nice place😍
I love your videos, and Chris Kanes voice so amazing id listen to him narrate the dictionary 😁💯💯
Don’t read my channel namee
😊
Guimaraes and Obidos ( in Portugal) should be added to the list.
Also Bruges in Belgium
I have been to the last one and the first one. Oh to go back home to Germany again!!! There are so many places to see there. Thank you for letting me remember all that I have seen.
Beautiful ❤️
I like Gent in Belgium, ( Gand) so much ❤️ was blown away in Bruges too. ❤️🐾❤️
Nice place hopefully I can visit
Amazing
Nice pictures.
Meu sonho é visitar esses lugares
England and Scotland beautiful towns and villages
York, Buxton, Bath, Lavenham, Wells, Bibury and Boughton on the Water, Port Sunlight (very special) , Castle Coombe, Lacock, Dunkeld & Burnham, Dedham, Tobermory, Frome Somerset, Linlithgow, Edinburgh (City but not very big and utterly stunning), Windsor, Cambridge.
So Beautiful.
fantastic, thanks 🙏 😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️
good list
Very nice video
Surprised Bruges is not there. Ghent is pretty but Bruges surpasses it
Europe is such a gem..
What a beautiful voice. I can't believe a bot would talk to nice. If it's a human I bow to you sir. Fantastic voice ❤️💕
Europe is very nice. U can make a list like this from almost every European country.
Gorgeous...
Enjoyed your program can’t wait to see the next one thank you Byron Bay
This people buy likes and everything, they don't pay us why
Lovely cities
Gotta see as much as you can because life goes by very fast ; hope to visit Germany!!
Lovely
Any town in Switzerland is the prettiest and cute ! I'm an American, so we have nothing older than 250yrs old 😄
True, but we have charming places in America. Charleston SC, Manchester Vermont, Salem Mass, Newport RI, Key West,Cape May, and an abundance of gorgeous parks out West. There are also many Indian ruins/sites out west that are fabulous and of course the coast of California with it's beautiful scenery and magical places to visit, especially Hearst Castle which I visited twice, each interesting in a different way. I adore Europe, everything about it, but America can be magical if you look in the right places
Me encantan esos lugares ❤
Nice, but what a weird selection of fairy tale European towns. The only one that might be included in a top15 is Sintra.
I can name at least 200 better alternatives.
Why Gent and not Venice, Strassburg or Edinburgh? If this was meant for small towns, not big cities, then Gent (260.000 inhabitants) should not be on this list at all. There are zillions of big cities far more fairytale than Gent. Brugge been one of them in Belgium.
There are at least 250 small villages in Europa more interesting than Giethoorn.
In France there are also many like Colmar
As for Germany, towns like Cochem -Bernkastel Kues-Goslar-Wernigerode-Quedliburg-Trier- Monschau and Fussen/Schwangau ,including Neuschwanstein, the white castle at the end of this film, are much better options.
Spain-Poland-Norway-Kroatia-Romania-Bulgaria also have a lot to offer.
Must admit it is difficult to make the right choices, but if you only know a limited number of European countries and not very well, then you should have left the MOST out of, 15 Most Gorgeous European Fairytale Towns.
Great video! Please do one like this with Latin American countries, if you haven't already done so :)
As an Aussie travelling and cruising around one place I thought was beautiful cruising into was Montenegro , it was very picturesque.
This is actually good.
As an American, did someone forget to mention Bruges or was it edited out because you mentioned Ghent. I mean, Bruges is the epitome of fairy tale town.
WoW pretty good places
