JEFF GORDON #16 SPRINT CAR [SCRATCH BUILT] IN 1/24 SCALE || Full Build Recap

- This is a model project I built for Jeff Gordon personally back in 2020. It replicates the #16 sprint car Jeff got his career started in back when he was a teenager.
The chassis is scratch built and soldered from brass tubing and rod. The body work features a scratch built brass hood, and thin aluminum for the remaining body panels. The wheels were machined on my Sherline lathe and mill, as well as the hubs. The suspension features RB Motion rod ends and bolts, and the front has working steering. It has full oil, and fuel lines made from Pro Tech braided line, and Detail Master fittings. The paint was from Gravity colors, with Omni two-part clear coat, and Powerslide decals. There are only a handful of plastic kit parts used, the rest were either machined or scratch-built.
This was probably one of my favorite models I have ever built.And in my opinion probably the best model I have ever built. It currently sits in Jeff's personal trophy case.

Nice work.👏👏I am fabricating a Hotchkis type suspension for a Revell GTO. It didn’t occur to me to use brass beads. What a time saver 😂. Brass is so pretty it’s a shame to paint it. Thanks for sharing. Excellent build. Your tips on fabrication are appreciated. I have enough beads to last a lifetime 😮.

Totally insane work mate, i just spent a year building the Revell saldana sprint car with a racing harness and spark plug wires and some alloy paneling around the driver, but this is just on a whole different level.

No, I never have. I remember him racing it, it was just one I never built.
Not a fan of that form of racing, but your skills are impressive.
