The UK is past, once important but less relevant year after year. Regarding UK Visa free to China FORGET IT. The UK visa process for Chinese is the worse process ever. I know several Chinese who went through the Tourist visa process and in 2023 and 2024 and they will NEVER EVER visit UK again. This includes one person who has had Schengen Visa's in past, as a valid 10 year US visa and permanent residence status for Canada.
My advise to Chinese tourists is avoid the UK, the EU will welcome you.

UK government always go after business interests and working with China is in the right direction … however, US demand is also important - after all, western democracy needed to be seen superior through military and economy might but how? Actually, US hard on China even embargo has benefit Europe businesses in the past - Chinese government open doors to the world in the 70s and started businesses with UK, Germany, France, Italy and Scandinavia through trading houses in Hong Kong while Japan businesses did it through Japanese trading companies and government sponsorship as a post WWII friendship gesture. US businesses enter China much later in the 80s and then everybody after 2000 or WTO.
Tony Blair had no choice but to hand over Hong Kong. In 1997 Britain wasn't powerful enough to force the Chinese to accept the status quo.

UK is struggling to retain its world presence n influence after the entire empire has ended. It needs a protector and thinks US is the only choice. Perchance Uk may benefit more by fixing its domestic issues and staying neutral as a true independent country.

it would be simpler to modify UK "democracy" to be "votes against" .. ie. the vote is for who you most want to block from power. We can take it for granted none of the options are actually considered someone you'd actually want in power.
