So if u steal under 1k from a small/private business you get let go no punishment no bail. If you evade a 8$ toll from the government you get charged with a crime and your vehicle seized

It’s about time. A tag was stolen from me here in Florida and used to run 100’s of tolls in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Tag was expired for 3 years and was inside of a car in storage. I get all of the fines. I have police reports and have provided all of the tolling agencies with proof that it cannot be me. The criminals don’t even care that the tags have been expired for years.
20 plus ghost cars in LGA 10E lot with fake, broken, concealed plates hiding and 311, Port Authority police to do nothing.

I love when our taxes are used to fund operations such as finding ghost cars ! This should be a monthly thing to insure that people are following the law ! Next operation should be to crack down on MTA fare beaters , I feel like I’m the only sucker to pay for my bus/train fare while everyone one else just disregards paying and getting on for free

Say what you want to say, but aside from the fines imposed on ghost cars, it's a lot worse if you get hit by one of these cars with fake or missing plates and they leave the scene of the accident without stopping, so in a way I applaud Adams and Hochul for cracking down on this
I'm thankful that you mentioned cops themselves can't get away with obscured plates too because some people have been vocal about NYPD breaking the laws themselves in their private cars

Put some resources into collecting back taxes owed to the city and state. That would solve some problems, and you wouldn’t have to harass the little guys.

On the other hand, given the red light cameras, speed traps, congestion pricing, illicit tolls, and other greed schemes on the part of city and municipal government, one cannot blame people for evading these corrupt government behaviors by removing their plates and ghosting their vehicles.
The government's attempt to stay small has made many things unmanageable. Plus, the distance between the leaders and their constituency is enormous.

i’m from seattle. my entire block is full of ghost cars i can’t park anywhere. venezuelans who live in my building buy and sell them. wish there was a way where these men could work legally so they wouldn’t have to do shady shit like this. i’d love to park by my building. i’d also love to get more people off the road (im sick of all the traffic). might help a little bit if some people just didn’t have wheels 🤷🏽

CZcams is replete with videos asserting New York's "crackdown" on ghost vehicles... and has been for the last year.
Not just to evade tolls. All of these scammers have ghost plates so they don’t have to get insurance which to me is a bigger deal than not paying tolls.

I was pulled over by a NY trooper his excuse for pulling me over was I couldn’t read your plate
1 I have no plate frame
2 out of state plate top says the state
3 bottom says Disabled Veteran
4 white red and blue plate with red letters and numbers
5 I have my state tint exemption letter
Trooper still gave me ticket saying tint is too dark for the state you belong to if he would’ve read the letter he would’ve seen the allowed tint percentage and at no time did he do a tint meter reading. He decided to write the illegal tint anyway. I served 20 years in the military honorable discharge and have the tint exemption for medical reasons. Now 3 months later still dealing with this problem. I’ve been stopped before for the tint every officer just looks at my paperwork and says thank you for your service have a great day. Everything is fine and we drive away. I have learned that NYC and NY State only care about money and how to make a bigger salary every year. It’s a shame because you damn well know that police wives and children don’t get harassed when they get pulled over . It’s a shame what of a garbage state and city it’s become best thing to do is leave and never come back.
