Anyone else start experiencing extreme anxiety/panic once you started having ear problems? I’ve never suffered from anxiety but I’m thinking that my anxiety/panic & ETD is connected. Once my ears start feeling funny, my anxiety/panic is up.

    • @jonplauche5020

Yes absolutely. It’s like my anxiety is the cause sometimes. Which inflates the anxiety. It also im happens when I’m more physically active, lifting heavy objects. Inhaling through my nose is when it starts.

How are your ears now? I think I have this now. It happened when I went to grab coffee and due to allergy season. Came back after my coffee and noticed my hearing was slight off on my left. I started to panic and it felt like my symptoms got worse from anxiety. My inner ear feels warm so I'm using and ice pack to see if that will calm the inner ear or any inflammatory. Have any of you guys felt the same warm sensation? Also I noticed my balance feels slightly off/dizziness.

The Eustachian tube is an amazing bit of “engineering”. One of its main jobs is to equalise the pressure on both sides of your ear-drum which means that your hearing is very accurate at all pressures and altitudes. Without it your hearing would be less sensitive as your eardrum would need to be much stronger to withstand the pressure difference; at high or low pressures your hearing would probably stop working as your eardrum would be stretched almost to its limits and it could eventually burst. We use the same principle in pressure sensors (gauge type), microphones and loudspeakers.

Wow, this really sucks for me. I have been getting tubes in both ears for over 20 years. Now I have permanent holes in both ear drums which means I no longer need tubes. I needed HA instead. For years I would ask my ENT about any procedures to keep my Eust. tube opened. The answer was always not yet. If the Tuboplasty had come out a few years sooner it may have made a huge difference for me.

    Eustachian tube massage
Use your finger to find a bony bump behind your ear lobe. Using firm, steady pressure, slide your finger down until you feel a groove between your ear lobe and jaw. Trace that groove all the way down your neck to your collarbone using the same firm pressure. Repeat this process three times on each side, three times a day.

I have always had problems with ear pain and my ears getting blocked. Once for two years. Eustaci has been a life saver solving my ear blocking problems. This ear pain comes at the end of the day and is strong. I got something to try called eardoc. It uses vibrations to clear🎉 the Eustachian tube I do think the second scenario in this video is my problem. This channel has really helped me. When my ears were blocked the doctors looked in my ear and said “no infection” l left with no solution for two years not hearing out of one ear. I bought some ear amplifiers but ultimately the solution was found here. Thank you for that. I don’t need the amplifiers.

The CAT scan revealed everything on the left side was almost completely blocked. The Dr told me that it would eventually get reabsorbed by my body and to use Simply Saline to thin out the mucus it took months for it to finally open up but every time I get a cold I worry the same thing will happen again.

I’ve had ear pain since August 2023. Severe dizziness where I felt drunk, couldn’t stand in the shower and severe balance problems. Went to urgent care and they said no infection but you got some bug. Got on antibiotics. Took them and they didn’t help. Than my left eye sucker went numb. Went back to urgent care and cuz of the numbness they sent me to ER and they said I might have a tumor. I knew it was a clogged ear. ER doctor looked in my ear, he said yep you have severe ear infection. They did an CT scan too rule out tumor. They sent me home with more antibiotics and vertigo medication. 3 months later saw my ENT doctor. Told her what was going on. She said ok let’s see if you have vertigo and she gave me some test. Of course I passed. I knew it wasn’t vertigo cuz I’m not spinning I just can’t stand up or balance. Than she did a hearing test on me. Of course pass. She than said nothing is wrong. Well I still don’t feel good and I feel like there’s lots of toilet paper stuck in my ear, plus last Thursday after I took a sudafed my whole left side of my face is numb. From my ear all the way down my neck. I take aller tec for my seasonal allergies and just got on nascort
I lost my insurance last month and fighting to get it back. I’m sick of dealing with this for 7 months now. I’ve tried taking a deep breath and and plugging my nostrils and blowing out of my nose. I can hear my ears POP and than they close again.
I don’t know any other hollistic things to do. I can’t afford to go to the doctor. But the numbness is scaring me.

Another useful video Dr Cliff. My experience of obstructive ETD in one ear ultimately resulted in hearing loss due to (according to my ENT Doctor) an infection of the inner ear / cochlea.
When I first noted the ETD and spoke with my own general practice doctor nasal spray and Eustachi were recommended with the comment that it can take a long time (weeks to months) to clear. Apparently not always the right course of action to leave this condition too long according to the ENT specialist. His advice was get specialist advice ASAP as inner ear infection can lead to hearing loss!

My ENT warned that noone, even a healthy non-sick person, should ever take off without a decongestion like a Sudafed pill already working! (Also, NEVER fly with a bad cold). I always take mine after I get through my gate, and I stay well-hydrated during the flight. On a long flight, I pop another 30 minutes before we descend. I developed ETD in my right ear about a month ago. This is the ear that would always act up when I was a kid, getting infected about 3 times. I had been snorting 2 Oxy’s a day up my left nostril for the last 5 months or so and on Thanksgiving I woke up with hearing loss in my right ear. At first I thought it was from ototoxicity in my ear canals from the painkillers but the ENT said my ear drum was picking up sound at a normal range. Taking mucinex and Zyrtec helps it not be as pressurized and muffled, but doesn’t fix it by any means. Wondering what they’re going to tell me when I go back in next Wednesday for the follow up appointment. I’m starting to get really scared that I’m going to be stuck like this forever and never be able to enjoy music again at only 29 years old.

But I stopped doing the Flonase and Zyrtec because I forgot to as my hearing was back but 2 days ago I slowly felt the Eustachian tube not being able to pop very well again and I had to start the allergy medicine again. It’s slowly clearing it up again it feels like. But I will say the wax contributed a pretty big amount to my initial hearing loss. Now it’s definitely annoying but not borderline debilitating.

C-PAP might be causung my symptoms.
My ENT pretty much dismissed my complaint about pressure in 1 ear, even after suctioning the wax. He had me do a hearing test and told me my hearing in that ear had really worsened over 4 yrs. Of course a5vthat moment! He referred me for a MRI and a neurologist! NO!
I have now let it go for 6 months, but cannot stand it-- the pressure, ringing, chirp with every tug, swallow, yawn that cause a cough&tickle in my throat. Plus, that ear canal is always wet.
I believe my C-PAP machine has something to do with this AND that I ALWAYS sleep on that side.
I will not fly until this is resolved.
I cannot wait to see a different ENT in about a month.
