Cameroon (English: Cameroon,/ˌkæməˈruːn/ (listen), French: Cameroun, Duala: Kamerun, Ewondo: Kamərún, Fula: Kamerun, Fe'fe': Kamerun), officially the Republic of Cameroon (French: République du Cameroun), is a country in west-central Africa. It is bordered by Nigeria to the west and north; Chad to the northeast; the Central African Republic to the east; and Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of the Congo to the south. Its coastline lies on the Bight of Biafra, part of the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. Due to its strategic position at the crossroads between West Africa and Central Africa, it has been categorized as being in both camps. Its nearly 27 million people speak 250 native languages.
    Early inhabitants of the territory included the Sao civilisation around Lake Chad, and the Baka hunter-gatherers in the southeastern rainforest. Portuguese explorers reached the coast in the 15th century and named the area Rio dos Camarões (Shrimp River), which became Cameroon in English. Fulani soldiers founded the Adamawa Emirate in the north in the 19th century, and various ethnic groups of the west and northwest established powerful chiefdoms and fondoms. Cameroon became a German colony in 1884 known as Kamerun. After World War I, it was divided between France and the United Kingdom as League of Nations mandates. The Union des Populations du Cameroun (UPC) political party advocated independence, but was outlawed by France in the 1950s, leading to the national liberation insurgency fought between French and UPC militant forces until early 1971. In 1960, the French-administered part of Cameroon became independent, as the Republic of Cameroun, under President Ahmadou Ahidjo. The southern part of British Cameroons federated with it in 1961 to form the Federal Republic of Cameroon. The federation was abandoned in 1972. The country was renamed the United Republic of Cameroon in 1972 and back to the Republic of Cameroon in 1984 by a presidential decree by president Paul Biya. Paul Biya, the incumbent president, has led the country since 1982 following Ahidjo's resignation; he previously held office as prime minister from 1975 on. Cameroon is governed as a Unitary Presidential Republic.
    The official languages of Cameroon are French and English, the official languages of former French Cameroons and British Cameroons. Its religious population is predominantly Christian, with a significant minority practicing Islam, and others following traditional faiths. It has experienced tensions from the English-speaking territories, where politicians have advocated for greater decentralisation and even complete separation or independence (as in the Southern Cameroons National Council). In 2017, tensions over the creation of an Ambazonian state in the English-speaking territories escalated into open warfare.
    Large numbers of Cameroonians live as subsistence farmers. The country is often referred to as "Africa in miniature" for its geological, linguistic and cultural diversity.[13][10] Its natural features include beaches, deserts, mountains, rainforests, and savannas. Its highest point, at almost 4,100 metres (13,500 ft), is Mount Cameroon in the Southwest Region. Its most populous cities are Douala on the Wouri River, its economic capital and main seaport; Yaoundé, its political capital; and Garoua. Limbe in the Southwest has a natural seaport. Cameroon is well known for its native music styles, particularly Makossa, Njang and Bikutsi, and for its successful national football team. It is a member state of the African Union, the United Nations, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), the Commonwealth of Nations, Non-Aligned Movement and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

      Nigeria is not really a bad name if you understood the true historical meaning of the word "Niger" which the West later bastardized because of Bigotry.
      Niger pronounced [neeg'-er] according to G3526 (Strong) concordance means a Black Christian. Also take note in
      KJV (Acts 13:1)
      Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called NIGER, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
      Take note* The first Christians were black because it was in Africa before it got to Europe.

    • @alexkorami6679
      @alexkorami6679 Před 7 měsíci +5

      Also take note of the word Sudan [black] Savannah in sud_sahara Africa "Belad Al_Sudan" in Arabic means land of the blacks.
      In antiquity it was more properly spelt & called "So_Udan",
      Udan spelt (Yudan) means "The Jews" in the Afro_assiatic languge when translated.
      If you research most of the tribes and cultures in Sub_sahara Africa🌍 they give you a written and oral tradition they all migrated from North_East Africa, aka Palestine or the larger Middle_east.

But no the colonial masters conquered us, erase our history and handed us a new one.
      So , No sir , no Cameroonian should take pride in being called a 🦐. It wasnt a self generated name by them, it was handed over to them by conquer.

    Nigeria was named after a British coloniser's mistress
    They couldn't pronounce Kirinyaga and decided to call it Kenya
    ALL those borders in Africa were placed by the european colonisers after destroying all the rich various kingdoms with great civilisations and systems our ancestors built.
    That's why those concentration camps, Corporations known as countries must be abolished.
    Going back indigenous ancestral roots is the only way to reclaim back everything Africa lost and be able to UNITE.

      Wales does not mean whales 🐋. It's was named by Germanic Anglo-Saxons invaders which means foreigners.
      Cymru is the original name of Wales and it's still used by the Celtic people.
      The word "whale" comes from the Old English hwæl, from Proto-Germanic *hwalaz, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kwal-o-, meaning "large sea fish".
      Göktürk meaning celestial blue the origin of Turk.
      Türkiye changed from Turkey recently. Old french called it Turquie why it was called Turkey. Not because of the bird turkey 🦃 (although you are right to say Türkiye imported birds to European and they just named them Turkey 🦃 ) Anyways - during the Ottoman Empire the Europe would call it Turkish empire ruled by the Turks.

Put aside the victim complex and if the good people of Cameroon don’t like the name they can change it, as Myanmar did. And the rest of the world won’t pay attention

    Such brave and strong neighbours of ours being called tiny by the Portuguese. I don’t know how many of the strongest Portuguese people today that can survive a fight to the death against the 2nd strongest Cameroonians. It would be suicidal. That is what the power of the gun can give to a racist people in a racist past.

    • @B.Jeff116

      When the name was given it was given after the majesty of a River. There was no name for the territory before that (except of course that of tribal villages and Fondoms with distinct identities) As a country, We are fine with the name as it speaks of the majesty of our River Wouri.
      And yes colonisation was part of our history, no need to erase it because we are embarrassed. There is mo need to conform to this anti wight movement.

    • @alvanalvino
      @alvanalvino Před 4 měsíci

      @@B.Jeff116 Do you mean anti white as white for Caucasian? There is no anti white movement because they aren’t even white. They are just colour blind people because they are pink and pale skin people. I prefer to call them Caucasian or any other name they gave themselves but never white. There is no white coloured human being anywhere on the planet and I don’t care what they symbolised it with. They are not white and I am not black simple. You are a sheep and it’s okay. No one is asking you to confirm to anything. Stay in your cage even with the doors open. It’s fine too. But you don’t speak for majority of Africans who are exposed and wants freedom from these evil race from across the Mediterranean Sea who did terrible things to us and still do it today. Who do you think destabilises Cameroon and Nigeria? Who do you thinks benefits from our natural resources when they give us cheap weapons to kill ourselves? I can tell you for a fact that it’s the west and everything ends on the table of pink people had it always has been in the last 600 years and Africans are still kept poor and racist discriminated against. Many Cameroonians have not had any meaningful changes to their existence in 600 years. Our ancestors had names for all of these lands and bodies of water beneath it, the pink peoples you love so much die to your brainwashing changed them and ruined our existence. Good luck to your descendants when they are done ruining Africa because they will need it just to survive there without these movements for our absolute independence.
