44 years at GM...you must’ve had great survival skills Ed.
First gen Olds Aurora was another no grille knock out. Love the styling.
Ed is one of the absolute best.
One of the best interviews. Great guest. Extremely likable and informative.
Cesar Trujillo what are you smoking? Worst interview ever. Just a bunch of bullshit and ass kissing
It’s hacks like you that WILL end GM.
Electronic ignition is irrelevant to the cyber war, because it's just being points. What matters is ECUs, which you don't see until automatic mixture control and O2 sensors. The last car which will still work correctly with trivial modification is the 1991 MB W126 diesel, the last truck is the 1998 Dodge diesel with a stick. You can simply switch the glow/grid system, and the Mercedes EGR can be disabled by plugging off its vacuum line.
55:27 June 2019 R&T cover is of a Porsche interior
What a legend
Wagons make a come back? Retro looks come back? skate board allows a lot of flexibility.
I've noticed Mazda Cx 5 hood over grill design seems to stand out when I see them on the road.
NorthStead Landscaping - North Bay - Callander they certainly made a big production out of the design.
49:53 Come on Ed, you're too kind! Just say that the front ends of Lexus and Toyota products are currently hideous, especially the Toyota Avalon.
Good segment Welburn and Lutz one day?
I like the no grill look. The 1937 Cord 812 didn't have a conventional grill for its time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cord_%28automobile%29#/media/File:1937_Cord_GTO_Westchester_%286097100243%29.jpg Neither did my 1987 Mustang GT. www.musclecardrive.com/ford/images/1987-mustang-gt-lx2.jpg I also had a Ford Taurus and liked the front end of that. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Taurus#/media/File:Ford_Taurus_--_07-09-2009.jpg I love the Tesla Model 3 front end even more than the S & X. static1.businessinsider.com/image/5a861bcdd0307263058b4662-1800/tesla-model-3-33.jpg All very handsome cars.
Cummings 12 valve one wire will run! Don't forget diesels!
for me reliability is before style.
Great discussion, but sorry, so sick of "SUV's. That's all there seems to be really these day, especially in the US.
The ex-GM guy praises the design work that GM and the Chinese auto companies are doing lately. Does he not expect that the Chinese are using Italian design houses. That is a time honored strategy for companies wanting to penetrate the US auto market. Honda seems to have done it with their first generation CR-V. I think Lexus did it with their first models. And Toyota looks to have used the Italians for occasional cars. But certainly not current models. Toyota is such a muscular competitor that to make the contest in the US market a fair one , they show up with Asian styling on their cars when the Big Three are on the ropes and breathing hard. They don't want to look like a bully in someone else's country.
Seeing Ed and the concepts and thinking what could have been at GM... now it’s cheap Mexican Blazers, destroying US driving jobs, and forgettable letter number copy and paste SUVs...
The suv market is killing the car. The new Toyota rav-4 looks good. The GM SUV s have gotten better in design but not as striking as the competition.
The Olympics ad is severely outdated. The girl in the video has not been an Olympian since 2014!
.
I am sure Mr Welburn is a well respected man in design. He certainly knows car design. But as a guest, he is too quiet and reserved. I just about fell asleep listening to this interview.
He is retired,
Why do you even bother talking to the design guy in GM!? Do you not know anything about the design of cars built by GM. I’m really curious about the demographics of your audience.
