Yeah and it doesn't even necessarily mean that they didn't go small enough/ruined the style/Shaq was terrible and a complete error, it's just that all those moves, trades and stuff, because of the freaking out on completely normal and even explained losses to the rivals Spurs, just ruined those Seven Seconds or Less Suns.
Shaq was always "the last piece of the championship puzzle" around that time. Silly Suns GM bought into that narrative.

My favorite team growing up. That core of Nash-Marion-Stoudemire was so fun to watch. Amare getting hurt absolutely killed us.

I liked Amare and Johnson. I feel they would have done better if they gave Johnson and Amare more of the Ball. Nash was actually bad for those guys a lot of the times, because he spent too much time dribbling the ball and forced guy like Johnson off ball too much. And Amare was amazing inside, and needed the ball more. Nash was actually bad for those two guys in my opinion. And the entire team suffered and limited their max potential.

Little did these two know that in 9 months they'd be coaching together with a great roster in a big market. This friendship is as good as it gets. D'antoni was willing to sacrifice future job opportunities like Atlanta and Sacramento for an assistant position working with one of his best friends, Steve Nash. This Nets season is going to be epic.

Fair to say a lot considering his now an assistant to Nash
So far a lot. They run a ton of pistol action in their early offense, which isn't saying much because everyone does, but it has worked absurdly well with Brooklyn because everyone other than Allen and Jordan can handle the ball and hit open jump shots. Aside from the obvious personal differences, seeing as Nash is one of the best teammates ever and Kyrie is certainly not that, Kyrie is probably what Nash would've been had he shot the ball a lot more in the mid-2000s with his balance, quick first step, and ability to operate in the pick and roll. This Brooklyn team has the capacity to run both of D'Antoni's best offenses (Suns and Rockets) as they also have two of the best isolation scorers in basketball. Although Nash is the clear head coach of this team and nothing should be taken away from him, D'Antoni's fingerprints are everywhere and I bet it warms his heart to see how much the NBA has changed because of his influence and willingness to be different.
By the way, I'm a Canadian Celtics fan so this was extremely tough to write about Kyrie while not being a Nash-lover but I tried my best to stay unbiased.
Those Suns teams in mid 2000s were so good and hard to believe they never made it to the finals. They always seemed 1 player away from a championship.

d'antoni is so stubborn trying to prove what was told to him by his coach, this strategy will be effective in the regular season but when its playoff time they should consider more seriously that they will play against the same team a couple of times where the other team will surely have adjusted to their style and would have found the weakness a couple of games later, golden state is different because they have a reliable big men and draymond plays very physical and with a lot of heart that is why the warriors struggled that time when their bigs got injured
Not gonna deny D'Antoni's offensive genius. But come on man, rebounding is a HUGE part of the game and to get rebounds you need a big guy in there. Call it old school, call it whatever, but time and time again I will always say it...you don't get those rebounds your team is not gonna win a championship. Period.

One thing that Warriors have had when they're winning, and Rockets cruelly lack often, is ball movement. It might not show up in the stat sheet, but it's obvious to watch. Curry is always in movement when he doesn't have the ball, and Harden is static more often than not. IMHO it's what makes the Warriors small ball more efficient overall and also more enjoyable to watch than these Rockets.

warriors just won because they shot the ball more from down town and hit more than other teams. And they did just enough defensively that it was enough. Houston and old phoenix just don't have that kind of accuracy or enough defense.

I would love to have seen D'Antoni coach Derrick Rose if he never got injured. Ik Rose only ever averaged 6 or 7 assists but his court vision is amazing.

The problem with going with EFG% and TS% is that it's not as useful in the playoffs, and especially down the stretch of games, when you just need shots to go in and you're not gonna get as many foul calls. That's when the good old FG% becomes more valuable when evaluating a scorer, as you just want someone to make a shot regardless of whether it's a 2 or a 3. Usually, the defense ends up giving up midrange options, so a player who can take that option and convert it at a high level becomes extremely valuable.

Nash Was Great
People be talking about how they didn't have defense. The Suns teams weren't really a good rebounding team, which is a bigger concern for offensive-focused teams. Their rebounding numbers may be similar to similarly-constructed teams (DEN, SAC, DAL) but on a game to game basis, it didn't seem to be the case.
So we just gonna disrespect Don Nelson like he didn't do small ball in the 90s

steve nash is the only player legally entitled to dribble dribble dribble because when he dribbles he is not just standing, he is pressuring the opoonents defense until it collapses and opens up opportunities. His typical move is always attacking the basket and then if none is open he would go to the baseline and then went back up the free throw area either he sees someone cutting under the rim or he suddenly shoots a midrange. another move is when he goes through a pick sonetimes he keeps his dribble and wait for his defender to catch up and then he puts them on his back so then he as an open space forward to do whatever he wants

Steve was right mathematically, 40% from 3 = 60% from 2. However, what a lot of people don’t seem to get is that when the game is tied, or u are down 1, would you choose someone who has 60% chance of making the shot or 40%. That is why as legendary as Stephen Curry was, he is 0 for n in the finals for final shot.
