- As promised, the lore series is back. A combination of injury and procrastination delayed it a little, so I apologize.
The story of Tenkabito Shien and the first generation of Six Samurai, the Legendary Six Samurai, is a tale full of love, irony, betrayal, and all kinds of twists and turns. There are many other cards involved in the universe of the Six Samurai, but we'll focus on the story's main characters: Shien, Kagemusha of the Blue Flame, and a few of the Legendary Six Samurai.
As always, I hope you enjoy the video, and feel free to suggest other cards that have interesting lore. (Or even other franchises/anime/games with lore that you'd be interested in.)
The information is gathered from card descriptions, effects, artwork and canonical statements from official material such as Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Guide. Due to the story not being fully out there, a little speculation and deduction is needed to piece it all together and fill in the blanks.

Its pretty amazing really, the fact that they picked up a card thats about a decade old or so, then retrain them to become one of the most important figures of an archetype's plot. A+
I mean, Shien is a pretty good old card.
In case no one's aware, the whole betrayal story is based off of the real life events where Nobunaga kills and wipes out the clan of Azai Nagamasa, the husband of his sister, Oichi.
That explains a lot, tbh.
But Azai betrayed him first.

instead for some reason konami decided that making zexal arc v and vrains into a more sci fi kind of thing somehow would be a better design.
I'm all for the history of these such monsters and archetypes getting some illustration into their own kind of anime, even if it's not about dueling!

The Synchro Shi En that we all know has an effect that destroys one of his fellow Six Sams to protect himself from death. HMMMMMMMM

That can certainly explain why Mizuho's son, Kagemusha, can pass off for Shien's body double.
It can also mean that due to certain events, mizuho left shien for shinai, which must have angered shien, and resulted in his betrayal

well considering Shien's color scheme is primarily purple, Kagemusha of the Blue Flame can better refer to Shinai, his father, because he's mostly blue and his armor is surrounded by blue flames in Spirit of the Six Samurai
This. Shien even after death kept the purple flame. Yet Shinai is blue flame.

since a kagemusha is essentially a stand in for someone, hes "standing in" for his father to get revenge, it could well be the classic, two people couldve been the ruler of the land but the evil one betrayed his friend to get there and kept his son as a puppet
if you check the original japanese card title, Kagemusha of the Blue Flame is "玫çăźćœ±æŠè ", and Great Shogun Shien is "性ć°è» 玫ç", where "玫ç" literaly means "purple flame", or pronounced shien. I would say its just a mistranslation considering Kagemusha is way earlier than the six samurai series, and the proper translation would be "Kagemusha of Shien"
What if it's the other way around? What if Shinai was Shien's brother, and he's just jealous that his brother was the one who ended up getting the chick (Mizuho). Unfortunately Mizuho chose to become a nun after Shinai's death, at Shien's expense. Here is probably why Shien finally embraced his tyrant side. On the flip side, Shien might also kill Shinai to gain the right to become ruler when the rightful heir is probably Shinai. Meanwhile, Kagemusha is probably Shien's youngest step brother. There were a lot of case where step brother had to act as kagemusha to proof that they will not oppose the rightful heir.
Most likely not the case, but it's certainly one way to interpret the story.

Mind blown by Kagemusha being Shinai's son. It makes sense. Also, it's not just the hair. If you look at the skin on Shinai's arms, it's almost exactly the same as Kagemusha in his Blue Flame art. I also don't think Shien's Scheme is the reason for Shinai's death but more likely Legendary Shi En's second effect. This makes it way more direct and personal
Wow yeah Plus legendary Shi En is Dark Attribute which makes it make even more sense.

He became the shadow in the end of the story based on the card arts to kill shien, which explains why theyâre evenly match
I had always thought there kagemusha was the betrayer because of his resemblance to Akechi Mitsuhide. Now I will never see my 6 samurai deck the same way again.

It's same different story. There is a story that says mitsuhide betrayed nobu because he couldn't stand nobu's tyranny anymore.
Shien's betrayal of killing Shinai is an adaptation to Nobunaga killing Nagamasa Azai, his own brother in law. Which means, mizuho was Shien's sister.
The similarity stops at how Shien met his demise. The reason and the real culprit behind the rebellion are not known.
Seeing how kagemusha ended up replacing shien, I feel like toyotomi hideyoshi is a more fitting base for kagemusha than mitsuhide. Hideyoshi also started as mere servant for Nobunaga after all.
But well, kagemusha wears the same necklace that mizuho and shinai wore. As he looks younger than Shien, he might be Shinai's little brother, or maybe Shinai's son with Mizuho.
@@noodletornado309 guns has a basis for his speculation. Given weight by the fact that Kagemusha was backed by Shien's personal friends. Strictly speaking it was a betrayal either way, but we're debating the motives.

The six Samurai is my favourite deck, it is very interesting how this story reflects the world and times of the Sengoku Period in Japan. Many of the events in this story are certainly based on the real events of Samurai history.
This was great, never thought the Cards had that kind of lore. Never even noticed the similarities between the supports like grandmaster and the actual legendary Samurai. Really nice.

Hatsume is also the daughter of Shinai. In her card art she wears the same heir-loom! I also noticed Fuma and Rihan are nearly identical. This puzzle may be unfinished!

@@franciscobaza8679 i only know that the Ninjas tried to assassinate Shien in a couple of cards' artwork, not really surprising, ninjas are commonly depicted as assassins often hired by politicians and Shien was a big political figure, so he probably had a lot of enemies both in and out of the Six Samurai

Nope. Look at his card effect. If shien gets attacked, you can destroy another face up six samurai monster instead. He needed to somehow survive at all costs. The next Gen six samurai followed that Motto because of Shien.

You never fail to amazing me with your back stories for the cards. They should honestly do spinoffs of these stories with the anime somehow, I think it would be cool! The Gagagigo story was my favorite, because the deep deep back story it had, even appearing in other stories, but this one is right up there now, nice work!
