      My biggest gripe with Root A was that it didn't have one of my favorite moments in the series, where Kaneki tells Kanou off, along with it's general failure to make sense. There's ways to have made it work, but they decided to keep the edgy idea of him joining Aogiri but didn't change enough of the plot to actually fit with what they told us. It was so frustrating to watch. That and Hide's death, the failure to include the final scene of Arima vs Kaneki, and the really emotional ending. I wanted to see that animated. Everyone always says let's go home, but I say let's rest for a bit.

    I still think madhouse would’ve done a better job. Parasyte is good example

    • @HusseinTHK
      @HusseinTHK Před 5 lety +8

      But parasyte is a short series which could be done in a single season where its manga was 70 chapters compared to tokyo ghoul which is 320 chapters that may need more than one season and it is something madhouse rarely do.
      And I don't think they're gonna gamble on doing it in one season like they did with hunter x hunter because surely it will not have the same popularity as hunter x hunter.
      But after all of that I wish they do so because I am a big fan of tokyo ghoul and seeing it in a great anime is one of my dreams

    • @mulanomula
      @mulanomula Před 3 lety +6

      madhouse has become shit over the last couple of years, it's been a couple of years since they've released anything note worthy. i'd say Bones would've done an amazing job or Wit Studio since they typically go for more dark/seinen esque source material (ie Vinland Saga), which is in essence what Tokyo Ghoul is.

    • @icankickflipok
      @icankickflipok Před 4 lety +2

      I would give so much money for this. I want the same story, same characters, art style, arcs, developments, fights, same everything basically, just with slower pacing so things can be fleshed out more and feel more natural instead of it feeling like things jump a lot of time in re, and better animated fights. For example, Ichigo vs Ulquiorra spans over, like, 3 episodes of bleach and cutting together all the time across those three episodes that they’re fighting is nearly an episode in length alone. And Ulquiorra isn’t Aizen, so he’s not even the final fight in the Hueco Mundo arc. By comparison, Kaneki vs Furuta, which is the final big fight in re, is about 5 minutes and is basically all slideshow. Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with slideshow sometimes, but not when it’s all it is, and especially not when it’s an important fight like Kaneki vs Furuta is built up to be. Studio Pierrot squandered the potential of this anime. I pray I get to see new Tokyo Ghoul from a studio that actually gives a fuck about quality instead of budget cuts. That said, I still really love this anime. If I didn’t I wouldn’t want it to be with a good studio so much.

    I think that if it was made by ufotable or madhouse and that each season should be 24-26 episodes minimum to convey the story more in depth instead of rushing relationships and the plot to meet the deadline of producing it. It just needs more time overall that would help it massively to explain more about the story and characters. This was rushed plain and simple. Attack on titan season one is great example of how long a season should be as well as animation quality and character development was great as well. The OVAS helped even more to expand the story even more and show little bits of the story we didn't know about adding more depth to the attack on titan universe. This is how it should've been done. Hopefully we get a reboot one day like this.

    To me Tokyo ghoul after season one has never looked the same for me, the anime doesn’t look dark enough for me like how it’s supposed to look in tkg, the lighting doesn’t look dark and gloomy. The Art style seems drastically different from the manga which I think covers that horror themed atmosphere. The animation of the fights to me seemed clunky and slow they didn’t have much fast paced action.. the anime didn’t look good at all throughout all seasons except probably season one. I wish the manga would’ve been given justice but I doubt there will be a new reboot to tkg like how fma and fmab was a thing.

    I'm really quite partial to Root A. you really have to take it out of context with re, like a dead end root of a choose your own adventure book. but I think it had some good points and a really interesting root. bc kaneki joins aogiri and just you can see it's bc of the torture. it's a valid response to trauma. he tries to cover it with saying he wants to protect everyone, but you can see every time he fights, he's fighting yamori again *bc he wants to*. maybe I'm reading too much into it lol. but it does have some good scenes. the part in cochlea after centipede ken fought shinohara and amon gets there and kaneki is just like "mou... tabekunai" and starts crying, like that destroys me. and the last episode is a masterpiece of timing and music and animation. especially with hide in the burning anteiku. like gosh, go watch the end of the last episode where hide dies and kaneki carries him for like forever with the music playing oh my gosh

Tho I have to thank the anime for introducing me to TG in the first place. I truly hope that someday (hopefully sooner than later) we'll get a reboot that follows the manga and does it justice. I also hope that a capable studio as well as invested people would make said reboot. There's two things tho that I loved about the anime which is A. The voice actors (japanese of course) and B. Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 was great. It followed it’s own story, the creator was very involved in the writing process and they had respect for the source material while doing their own twist on it. And, in my opinion, making it far better than it’s source material.
    Studio Pierrot had none of those things while they made the Tokyo Ghoul Anime.

      Headache 2003 is in my opinion miles better. The characters are more developed, the music is better, the antagonists are actual characters, better tone and atmosphere, and the art style is just more appealing compared to Brotherhood’s fat character designs.
      I don’t understand how Brotherhood is by any means better than FMA 2003.

I would love to see a reboot with a studio who is in close consultation with Ishida. I really want to see the train wreck ending that he had originally planned out, it would be amazing. But i think that we need changed in the whole anime industry. A few years ago i read an article by an anime studio in which they said that 3/4 of anime being produced each season shouldn't be and the more and more i see the shit that is being produced the more and more i agree, why do we need twelve harem series each season? give me 4 or 5 new series each season but pour passion into them.

    Season 1 was, in my opinion, beautiful. It got me into the anime world and was just a beautiful season. Yes, they did cut some stuff, but it did a pretty good work with the protagonist, they made me love Kaneki and ghouls, but at the same time they made me like the CCG with Amon, who's basically the human protagonist of the series.
    Root A was nice, I guess. It focused more on the CCG part, and that's why I had a few problems with the season: I wanted more Kaneki, like Sui Ishida did in the manga, and more Anteiku stuff. They made me feel like the story with Kaneki was done and that's my biggest issue with Root A (but the ending was really good, not as good as the manga).
    Tokyo Ghoul:re had the same vibe as S1, it showed the battle between Kaneki and Haise, the good and the bad part of Ken.
    Tokyo Ghoul:re 2, at least in my opinion, was really good. There was a lot of stuff to cover, like the initial battle or the battle between Kaneki and Furuta and the Kaneki and Naki part, but I feel like it was really nice, like they handled Kaneki's emotions, the battle between Kaneki and Arima was really good.
    I don't know, I just feel like season 4 was really good, and waaaaaay better than Root A

    Oh heck no. They never even read the manga! Well that explains a whole fucking lot now doesn't it🤦‍♀️ ugh I can't believe this. Although tbh I'm of the belief s1 and 2 were the best. I started reading the manga after watching s1 and 2 and I think the tone of the manga matches the first two seasons of the anime even if s2 is anime only. However I learned later that s2 was taken from an excerpt ishida did for shonen jump and they based s2 off of that. It still conveys the characters well whereas re. Oh re. So much left out. The tone is all over the place. The shift from psychological horror of the manga and first two seasons to this shounen action centric anime. And most importantly THE CHARACTERS. At least in the first 2 seasons we got a feel for the characters. We got to care about them and their journey. Here? I had no idea who any of these characters were, their story, their feelings. The lack of care that went into re makes me angry. They only animated what they felt was necessary and that left so much characterization to be pushed away unless it was absolutely necessary. And it never was. I also prefer the look of s1 and 2 as opposed to re. That's just a personal preference; I feel it looks closer to the manga as well as the organic look of kagune as opposed to the artificial and almost mechanic look of the kagune in re

    Yes I also hope that one day Tokyo Ghoul will get an anime adaptation faithful to the source material. I am huge fan of Sui Ishida’s manga. I also agree with you that Seinen anime are in general neglected for financial reasons which I believe is due to an outdated view of the people actually financing anime... Pop culture has grown up (just like me 👵🏼 😉) and I am surely not the only middle aged person that spends money on Manga, Anime etc. Perception shift of the shareholders will come in the next generation I think. So 🤞 for TG by Madhouse or anyone else capable in the next decade. Peace

  • @guccisgooch9661

    I still enjoy watching the anime just because I’m so passionate about TG. And I think the soundtracks are amazing. But even after my first watch through of the anime, I felt it was sloppy and really desired a reboot. The anime easily should’ve been almost twice as long if they really wanted to capture the emotions and story from the manga. I’ve written an entire script for a TG Part 1 live action adaptation for a movie and have seriously been considering going for it. I’d want to turn it into maybe 5-6 movies eventually. Obviously I have lots to learn and do and set up with agents and most importantly, finding enough money to take on such a project. Film is a passion of mine and I think TG, I’d marketed right, could appeal to a large demographic and could have some pretty iconic cinema moments.

    I was introduced to Tokyo Ghoul through Season 1 and Root A. At the time I was moved by Root A's ending, only to discover Root A was anime original. I eventually decided to read the manga to get the answers on the incomplete story. I actually collected the first seven- eight volumes before reading online. I also came across Tokyo Ghoul :re afterwards. Which sold me on collecting the rest.
    I ended up collecting the first series, volumes 1-14 and as of today currently have 9 volumes of :re.
    The point is that I don't particularly hate the first Season and Root A as they introduced me to the series, but I don't like how they manipulated the audience into thinking Root A was canon to the story/manga. (They didn't advertise the series as anime original so the only way of knowing is looking for yourself.)
    I had hopes for the re: adaptation but although I tolerate Season 1 of :re it still cut out things they shouldn't have. Some of the key characters didn't have enough background (Saiko and Mutsuki) which resulted in the audience being confused with their actions and in some cases, gender. (Mostly Mutsuki) Which irritates me as for Mutsuki they needed to animate the 'Taxi Scene' in episode 1 'properly'. Doing this would fix 'one' of the problems of :re .
    Season 2 of re, I watched, but realised all too quickly that I could understand what was going on because I have personal knowledge of the events of the :re manga. Season 2 had some decent animation in some areas, but overall felt lack-luster.
    I actually felt bad for the anime-onlys and responded to hate comments on Kaneki and Touka's development after ep 7 had aired. I tried to express that Touka and Kaneki's development was better in the manga, and the anime series has left a lot of this development out. The buildup to the dragon arc was cut out also, so I wasn't impressed with Pierrot's decision on that one.
    My personal torment is that they didn't do justice to 'The One Eyed King' title. As this is a huggge thing in the manga connecting the past of events in Tokyo Ghoul and the 20th ward owl extermination and the origins of Aogiri and world building.
    (Its even referenced in the manga, regardless of whether you're reading it.)
    Yet its reception in the Season 2 of :re was anything but.
    Chapter 86 of :re should have been animated, I thought they would at least animate it to grab the viewer's attention. Hell I was expecting suspense on the same level as the events of the ending of season 1. Nope. Did Not Happen.
    I am saddened more than angry at Studio Pierrot 's 'attempt' at Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul :re as they have made efforts to tell the general story but have failed at conveying the emotions, drive and buildup of its characters, their tragedies, their struggles and how they grow through their experiences in the warped birdcage of the world that is Tokyo Ghoul. How these characters all have set their sights on some kind of escapism, while the audience themselves are drawn into its world, a dark fantasy of psychological horror, and how the possibility of one bad day can warp an individual's perception of reality, questioning their existence and understanding the thin line between monster and man.
    This should be the adaption of "Tokyo Ghoul" we received. As Pierrot's Tokyo Ghoul hasn't done the manga justice, regardless of whether its bad or good, pretty or crude. Why are we left at the end of what should be a masterpiece of anime, saying
    "We want a reboot".
    Why should Seinen adapations be anything different to that of Shounen?
    I myself own two copies of both Season 1 and Root A but I refuse to pay anything for the :re adaptation over £12. Why should I pay for a half-assed attempt at animation and storytelling and be expected to pay something at £30, like I did for the original.
    I probably won't even buy it.
    Mostly though I feel sorry for the hardworking author, Sui Ishida. The man who built everything that I love about this series, who passionately wrote Tokyo Ghoul with its symbolism and referencing. Who worked through immense pressure and deadlines . A man who cared so much about the story and its characterisation and its plot, that he almost worked himself to death.
    You'd think for someone who has worked so hard for a series, not because it was demanded of him but because he wanted to, that the studio would at least recognise that dedication and drive, and honour it. The animation of :re, especially part 2 is an insult , not to the audience, but to the hardworking efforts of Ishida. Having the overall story of :re (179 chapters) animated into 24 episodes.
    Those 179 chapters, all of them are integral to the story it is telling.
    All of that effort he put into the manga is recognised but in the :re anime is a blurred mess.

    *Okay so many people want to see Kaneki and Touka’s daughters life.*
    *Like “What’s her kagune?”*
    *”How strong will she be?”*
    *Okay so for the kagune, She wont have Kaneki’s kagune. Because the kangue isn’t kaneki’s, It’s Rize’s. But the centipede was Kaneki with the support of Rize and Jason. Rize gave kaneki the kagune and Jason put a centipede in kaneki’s ear. So Kaneki and Touka’s daughter would most likely have Rize’s kagune. The one last episode she is in it shows she has black and white hair. When i saw that i was thinking Haise? But this has not been explained to at least me, So im not very clear of it.*
    *But, how strong will she be? Well said in an episode, She won’t live to long, But there could be a possible chance. I know that she will be stronger than Kaneki! Kaneki’s blood type is actually an AB. Possibly her’s could go higher. But another thing for the kagune, She could have a new kagune! One we’ve never seen before. As Kaneki shows in Tokyo Ghoul:Re 2, Kaneki brings up 2 new kagune’s! She could possibly have a centipede kagune since his blood is in her body.*
