    Thank you for your patience, I love you.

    They had it shaping up for Kaneki to die, a child w Touka-chan to carry on a part of him, the ties he made with prominent people in CCG, his uniting of the ghouls under the One Eyed King title, and him ultimately dying at the "hands" of Dragon Rize, who was the person who would have killed him in the first place had the metal beams not been dropped on her in part 1. I personally am happy he lived but I think it would have still worked great if he had died. Perfect symmetry

    • @TheAwesomoe
      @TheAwesomoe Před 2 lety +4

      Screw symmetry, it was much more satisfying watching all that struggle pay off. The hollowness of it all would've also been insane, in some degree a lot of people were personally attached and rooting for him. I just think this is the correct choice for the story thematically. If in essence it was also about Kaneki finding purpose and will to live, then it also is just too damn tragic to instantly sacrifice it. Kaneki's sacrifice just seems like a "bad ending", a bit over the top in my eyes.

    At least to me anyway.

    It should’ve ended with him dying as it would feel more real.

      @NUKCYNDv Před 5 lety +5

    • @eddieozil21
      @eddieozil21 Před 5 lety +8

      But it wouldn’t feel right, he had to go through so much, if it ended with him dying and never getting a happy ending that would have just been way too depressing even for Tokyo ghoul.

    • @NUKCYNDv
      @NUKCYNDv Před 5 lety +2

      @@eddieozil21 Again, I share your point of view, but from my way of analyzing the depth of morality, the mode and the "thought" of TG, the fact that Kaneki has lived also has a great significance. And if we think, in the end the two forms represent a tragedy, the irony and the "way to finish", are simply differentiated by two of the most terrifying and incredible concepts that the human being knows: and it is life and death.
      The two forms seem real to me, but everything depends on how each one feels and understands TG.

      bro whats wrong with you guys! you guys should be greatfull if kaneki died ichika would not be able get the chance to meet her father and kaneki would not get the chance to see his child and many people don't want that and if sui makes the ending makes kaneki died he would be considered cold and heartless so if he dies it would be wayyyyy too depression for Tokyo ghoul cause after all kaneki has been through he needs a beautiful good ending he also made the huam and ghouls live together he did a thing no one can so he highly deserves a good ending.hope you understand that

    • @winterbeast6326
      @winterbeast6326 Před 5 lety +2

      @@primedestroyer9573 It's not a beautiful ending. Kaneki always wanted to do more, and end up not being able to, you can see that on his face when he talks with Hide.
      The end show that, even if you are extremely strong, you could not be able to make what you wish to do, especially alone.
      Remember Kaneki wanted people to understand each other while not killing them, and taking hits for people to understand ?
      Well that's the Kaneki i would like to see at the end.
      But i think Kaneki lost faith and prefered to live a normal life, even if he knows that not what he really want.
      That's why Tokyo Ghoul is a tragedy. A tragedy is when the destiny of the character finish on the character death.
      It's basically what happened, Kaneki, as the character we've known, died during Tokyo Ghoul.

    Tokyo Ghoul: re wasn't a tragic story, but was a dark comedy one.
    Meanwhile, Tokyo Ghoul is the real tragic story where Kaneki technically dies by the hands of Arima.
    Sadly, there are still a lot of characters not clearly explained like Kaneki's father, I remember in one chapter that Kaneki was putting his father's bones inside something, also Amon and Akira too, we didn't know what happened to them (like hell, even Madam A has a conclusion!).

    Good video as always dude, and I completely share your point of view, especially about good and evil and about morality in all TG. I think that in both ways, both Kaneki living and Kaneki dying at the end have a great significance, and that they are "the same but different" in the sense of morality and the history of Tokyo Ghoul, both represent the change, the evolution and "the next step", both represent things as complex as happiness, suffering and the life and death itself. Without a doubt, I think both endings are very good for the series, and with a deep and "ironic" meaning, to put it in some way.

  • @sekiganxz
    @sekiganxz Před 5 lety +5

    I'd love to have seen this ending, so long as the ironic nature was displayed properly.
    My interpretation of such an ending would go something like this: Furuta and Kaneki might both die, but their legacies would be treated similarly. There might be an epilogue scene in this version where it shows how society now considers Kaneki a villain alongside Furuta, perhaps the media would even lump the two together as conspirators. This would give us the message that "our main character actually did a lot of bad things that we couldn't see, due to our perspective".

    • @sekiganxz
      @sekiganxz Před 5 lety +2

      @@gianna4732 No, there's a clear distinction between tragedy for the sake of tragedy, which is what a lot of viewers seem to think is best, and tragedy because it actually makes sense in terms of the story. This video is literally about having Kaneki die as the logical conclusion to some of the themes the manga presented, about how Kaneki did just as much wrong as other characters like Furuta and Uta, but we couldn't see it because he's the MC. If anything, the cliche happy ending is the antithesis to that idea.
      . If Furuta deserves to die, then why shouldn't Kaneki die? Perhaps you should watch this again and listen to the argument that Dres presents, since I'm following on from that.
      The cliche I'm talking about is the cliche of having the story end completely happily, with Kaneki growing up with his family, all his friends surviving etc.
      If you've read the interviews with Ishida, he stated that the dragon arc, and the aforementioned ending, was created after the point he gave up on the series. At that point, he just wanted to finish the series, and the ending we got was the result of that: fanservice to please us, as opposed to an ending that actually brings the themes fully circle.
      Whilst I still like the ending we got, it just isn't thematically accurate.

    I would have much preferred in my opinion, an extremely tragic ending.
    Whether Kaneki lived or died, I would have wanted although probably easily predicted. I would have wanted Touka to die or the baby to die. Whether it was touka dying then Kaneki breaking down trying to save the child inside of her or the child dying and him taking out his anger on Furuta. Just during the entire dragon arc there were no emotional scenes other than anything related to scarecrow.

    Personally I think it would have fitted to the dark theme of TG more. The happy ending was great, but the best parts of TG was the dark parts, when kaneki’s mind is being fucked and changed. His final acceptance that he’s not *the* protagonist but he’s *one* protagonist of many and then his death would work, and personally him existing beyond that made little sense to me. I understand Ishida was rushed. Thing is now, if Ishida decides to continue TG based around Ken’s daughter or something he’ll have to have Kaneki do something, and that just won’t work. This character that has had the spotlight existing behind someone different with the spotlight would be hard when making people get closer to the new character, and a death after the ending of :re would be incredibly ineffective.
    And also, I felt for Furuta. I feel like it would have been better if we got to know Furuta and his story a bit more before the reveal at the end (Chapter 172 I think, i never watched :re’s anime) would have been just as powerful. The most dangerous ‘villain’ with a goal as simple as wanting to live a normal life with his love interest is, of course, simple but stands out and is beautiful. Especially since this is a world where people want to be something, to be a ‘protagonist’, whilst the big bad ‘antagonist’ just wants a normal life.
    “Kaneki... Would you laugh if I told you that I just want to live a normal life...?”

    This was a good video up until the point when you said "the amount of damage Kaneki has caused is 10 times greater than Furuta and most likely Uta combined". What kind of a stupid statement is that? I don't even know what you're talking about with that? The only thing I can think of is his transformation into the Dragon, but Kaneki didn't do that on purpose, and that was part of Furuta's plan, so how could Kaneki have caused 10 times as much damage? That single statement turned this into a really stupid video overall. Also, whilst Kaneki and Furuta are similar in some ways, the main difference is that Furuta went out of his way to purposefully and willfully do evil things, whereas Kaneki very rarely acted with malicious intent. Even when he started killing Ghouls after being tortured, he purposefully targeted the more dangerous ghouls, or the "bad buds" as he referred to them. I'm sorry, but I really don't think Kaneki and Furuta are as similar as you''re trying to make out.
