    We tried using a waterbowl for our two boys, but they just decided to poop in it and put bedding in it haha! we currently use water bottles and on regular occasions they both actually drink from it at the same time (which is super cute)

    I have 2 gerbils one mainly drinks from the bowl and the other one exclusively drinks from the bottle

  • @PetConnectionInternational

    This was a great comparison ☺️ I definitely prefer bowls, but I think both can work depending on the circumstances

    Most of my gerbils have actually preferred to get most of their water from vegetables, fruits and berries! 😄 I cant remember how it exactly went with my first two pairs when it comes to just water, but eventually they used the bottle and now with my trio they agree to use the water bottle only. I tried to get them to drink from a water bowl for almost a month (!), tried different bowls, even tried "handfeeding" the water or putting veggies they didnt like that much (like cucumber) to leave no option but to drink from a bowl but still no 😅 Another funny thing is that most of my gerbils have managed to drink in pairs from a water bottle 😄 I have never had territorial issues with gerbils but their terrarium is big (360 L/95 gallons) and their food has been spred or in a low food dish where all can eat at the same time.
    Ps. It was so lovely to find your channel before I got my current trio, the last time I had gerbils was almost a decade and two decades ago, and the bedding and food has improved so much and your videos were amazing to remind of all the gerbil (care) things but also to learn new stuff. Thank you for your super cute and super informative videos 🥰

    Which do you use for your gerbils? 🚰 For me, dishes outweigh the pros and cons of bottles. For health reasons and good practice in general.

      I prefer water dishes as i dont have to worry about the bottle not working although sometimes dishes can get water everywhere

      I switched to the niteangel bowl after I got fed up of all the bottle leaks every day 🥲 plus it's much easier for them to drink from ☺️

      I started out with a water dish because it was more natural for them and honestly they just look so cute drinking from one😅 but I had to switch over to a bottle because they couldn’t last a half hour without completely filling their water dish with bedding no matter where I put the dish 🤷‍♂️😅

    I use both😃. One of my boys likes to carry bedding over and dump it in the water dish. Why? No idea🤣. I do have a divider but they love bringing bedding into their wheel/ sand area.

    Thanks, without a topper it's tricky to find a good water bowl solution but that's just more motivation for me to build a topper

  • @dumbartonyankee
    @dumbartonyankee Před 2 lety

    This has me thinking! I have their bottle up in the wire topper, well away from any bedding and where I've paved it with tile samples. Although I've seen no issues with my 2 (they're generally pretty independent), there's no reason why I can't also give them a dish up in the topper. The only things up there is access to the wheel, the bottle, and their vegetable dish (which doesn't always have food in it.)
    I'm going to be putting a dish there, as well.
    I have to be away for up to two nights many weekends, so I'll have to leave a bottle.

    Are orange gerbils a western thing? I'm in Ohio, and all I can find are white, black, beige, brown, or a combo of those colors. I want an orange one!!

    Hmm I was using 2 water bottles for a while since I went out of town for a few days. Went back to one but I’m thinking of adding it back or using a dish and a bottle together….any thoughts ?
    Edit: I only have a pair.

      @finsandwhiskers  Před 2 lety

      Whichever works! You can always try the dish since you previously tried with two bottles. Gerbils just love climbing and throwing it down in my experience, but that’s just me assuming that happened with the previous bottle 😅
