Detailed video tutorial of sewing a single and double welt pocket (the easy way) for beginners. This is my first sewing video tutorial, hopefully more to come!
I totally agree with Catherine below my comment, yes I agree that they can be a pain in the @ss so I joined you channel. Thanks for taking the time to show this to us. You are VERY much appreciated for doing that. Here’s wishing you a very beautiful Christmas and New Year ahead.
Agree 👍. Hands-down the best one yet. I appreciate the choice of fabrics and thread makes it easy to follow in my head and the clear and concise step by step instructions. Thank you so much.
Thank Yoiu, you did an awesome Job!!! Very simply explained, to the point and easy. I look forward to more videos from you. Thank you band I wish you well.
Wow. Thank you this is an excellent tutorial. Thanks for sharing it. Now I feel confident because you are absolutely clear. Keep making vidoes, please.
Nice clean video to the point. Just what I needed. Thanks.. camera angles and music perfect. If you can keep it short and blunt. People who say sorry a million times hope u can see it drives me crazy than the music over powers there videos. Just kept it just like this. Was great..thanks.
Thank you so much for watching! I'm still pretty new to making videos, but I'm happy to teach whatever I know to help people get started. Hope you're having a terrific week!
I watched numerous videos on sewing a welt pocket. I was so confused until I found your video. You made it so simple & straight forward I had it done in no time. Thank you so much. All the other videos were done by women & they over engineered the whole process. Leave it to a man to get right to the point. Thank you.
Awesome, thank you! I really want to re-shoot this video in my new studio, but I appreciate people are still watching this :) Hope you're doing excellent this week!
Thanks for doing the 2 pockets in the same piece of fabric for comparison, because by the time you began the double welt I'd forgotten what the single welt looked like! So it was helpful to see them both side by side. Another great video!
What a great tutorial! I’ve watched many of your videos and came upon this one just today. I’ve been sewing for years but the welt pocket has been a challenge. Thank you! You are a great instructor and you go at a great pace for learning. Again, thank you!
Thank you! I'm planning to re-shoot this video in my new shop with better lighting. Also I'd like to show how to do different 'thicknesses' of the welts to help people decide how they want theirs to look :)
You did a great job with your first tutorial. It was clear and easy to understand. The way you did yours was the way I was taught when I did my apprenticeship. Glad to hear you will be doing more video's. I gave you the thumbs up and I did subscribe so shouldn't miss any.
Omg I'm so sorry I didn't respond sooner. Thank you for such a warm comment. Hope you've been wonderful and have been making lots of amazing things since then. Happy 2020!!
I've just bought my first sewing machine the other day as I plan on reupholstering my car seats and your channel was the first one that came up when I was looking for sewing beginner guides, I've now watched a few of your videos and they've made me want to make my own shirts, hoodies, bags and now after watching this video I want to male my own jeans! I watched this video because I didn't have a clue what a welt pocket was, as soon as I saw what it is and the fabric you used my instant thought was "that would make a great pocket accent on some jeans!" I'm now off to shop for patterns and materials lol! Keep the videos coming! new subscriber right here :D
How cool 😎. Got to see your FIRST video... been seeing your recent videos.. it’s now May 21 , 2020 - and we’ve been on forced Quarantine since May 13th here in Cali
lol, I had no idea what I was doing back then in this video. Maybe I'll re-shoot this video to be more current :) Thanks for watching, hope life is good out on the West Coast!
Wow this one is super old! I don't even know if I could bring myself to watching this lol Thank you for your kindness, I should totally re-shoot this video :)
Seriously I have been trying to figure this out all day looking at videos and my stupid kwik Sew pattern and it was all just a mess. You explained it so clearly !! Your videos are seriously the best!
Thanks a ton buddy, happy this was helpful :) You can also try doing it so the pocket is a bit more narrow, which is nice if you want it to be more low profile. I appreciate the comment!
Great video with all of the important stuff without rambling on. I subscribed after watching another of your videos. I have a suggestion for topstitching. When I do topstitching, I don't backstitch. First, I begin and end with a longer thread-tail. Then, I thread a needle with the top thread and pull it through the back and tie it with the bobbin thread. Lastly, I thread a needle with both threads and work them into the fabric and snip them. This way, I avoid any bulkiness in my topstitching. It's a little extra work, but it pays off.
Oh that's a really cool technique. This is certainly the simplified version of welt pockets, but your method sound like it would have a cleaner finished result. Thanks for sharing!
even though im not new to sewing ive been around the block...a lot!!! lol im new to learning embroidery and thats a horse of a different color..totaly different!!!
Embroidery certainly is different, but if you're familiar with sewing its a lot less intimidating. Once you get the hang of hooping fabric, stabilizers, and tension... it's a breeze :) Thanks for the comment!
Thank you so much for watching! This video is crazy old, but I'm happy to have re-launched some more professional looking videos recently. Hope you're doing terrific!
That's awesome! Yeah, when I was new I was always putting fabrics the wrong way. Every time I make a mistake, I get better at sewing :) Thanks for the comment!
Great, thank you. I may have to recut a couple of jacket pieces from a Simplicity pattern. The pattern uses an old method that is meant to torture the semester because it is very difficult to get a flat, smooth opening.
I'm debating on getting this machine or the brother se700/725 as my first machine, but concerned about how the se700 will perform if I make something like a canvas bag like you said the se400 had issues with. Not sure if the se700 upgrade handles thick material better, but I'd love the option for embroidery.
You’re a genius!! This was exactly what I was looking for; clean and simple. Thanks a bunch for making this video. I’m working on making some simple formal vest, if you have any tips please help out! 🙌🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
That generally means its a two-part collar. The first part acting as a structure for the collar to take shape, and the 2nd part is the fabric that makes up the actual collar. It's a pretty cool technique too!
The cool thing about working with textiles is that it's certainly an art form, but there is quite a bit of engineering and constructive problem solving involved. One of the things I love most about sewing, leather work, and cosplay :)
Oh boy... I worked as the IT Director for a few mental health clinics when I started Tock Custom LLC. - Before that I did circuit board repair on hospital machinery and equipment, before that I managed a chemical distribution warehouse... I should stop here... the list is way too long lol
Tock Custom I started at a Monogramming and embroidery shop when I was.... what 8 years old, 10? It was my great aunt(a) great grandmother, and grandmother’s shop, I started with sweeping floors, cleaning tear away, discarded thread, etc, then Grandmother showed me how to “wind bobbins “, going to the topstitch board and getting 3 ladies different threads, aunt Carole showed me how to perforate, and do basic hooping, this all started wayyyyyy back in 1990, the shop was called “Quality Lettering”. I literally grew up in the sewing world. I like your videos and ideas, that shop went on for about 30 years. Many, many, holidays worked overnights, many nights spent helping great grandmother finish quilts for customers, sleeping on the couch watching eddy raven and Selena, sewing is in my blood and it’s our life. I’m just speaking a tiny bit of my experience. You do a good thing, man!
I remember the nights Chuck Norris came in with his jackets and stuff and wanted patch work done. Back then I didn’t know who he was and thought he was just a regular, he’d bring the ladies dinner, and my aunt would say how she thought his old Cadillac was “so purdy”. She’s passed away some years ago, but Aunt Florene , started that entire business with only a couple of machines and a lot of will. The good ol days!
Every time I need to sew a pocket I refer to this video. Best video I’ve seen for pockets!
Oh This old scottish granny is in love with your utube tutorials! Ta.
I'm so happy to hear that, let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see in upcoming videos! Thanks for the support :)
Thank you for this! Your instructions were clear, and beautifully paced and the accent fabrics help a ton.
The quickest and easiest explanation! 10/10 would recommend. Don't watch any other video, they're entirely too long and will confuse you.
WOW, for that being your first tutorial, that was absolutely FANTASTIC! You are a natural teacher! I am going to try this!
Love our tutorials. Thank you so much for sharing. You are an inspiration. 💕🙏🏽😇
You have helped me put all the missing pieces together In making a welt pocket
Thanks so much
This is a very easy way to make a welt pocket. Thank you for your tutorial, I will be using your method from now on.
Thanks! I really want to reshoot this video, it's super old! Happy it's still helpful :)
Doing more pockets! Great tutorial... I loop this video through my whole process 😁 probably watch it 40x so far. 8 pockets done, no pains
The BEST tutorial hands down!!

Awesome! Thank you for watching! I really should reshoot this with better lighting, but I haven't gotten around to it yet :)
This is probably the best method for single and double welts that I've seen! Thanks. :)
Thank Yoiu, you did an awesome Job!!! Very simply explained, to the point and easy. I look forward to more videos from you. Thank you band I wish you well.

This is really a good job. I didn't understand how to do this properly until I watched your video. Thanks a lot.
Wow. Thank you this is an excellent tutorial. Thanks for sharing it. Now I feel confident because you are absolutely clear. Keep making vidoes, please.
Thankyou for so much. I am very grateful. I had a jacket pattern with no idea how to do this.
Thanks Tock, you're a great teacher, I could follow your steps clearly. Hope you'll continue to post videos ;-)
Thanks a ton! I'll be doing new videos soon, been busy competing in some cosplay contests 😄
Nice clean video to the point. Just what I needed. Thanks.. camera angles and music perfect. If you can keep it short and blunt. People who say sorry a million times hope u can see it drives me crazy than the music over powers there videos. Just kept it just like this. Was great..thanks.
You do an awesome job of instructing. You make everything look so simple.
Thank you! I really enjoy helping people, creating things is so much fun 😀
That means a lot, really happy this was helpful 🤗💕

Outstanding - clear and concise. Thank you!
Tock, I was so confused but this is sooooo much easier than how I was taught!!!
Yeah, this is a simpler way to do it, but still looks great. Thanks so much for checking this out!
+Christopher Tock no problem! I'll be sharing this with the ladies I work with tomorrow in the costume shop! might help our pocket woes.

Best instructions I could find! Thanks so much! I'm subscribing and look forward to more!
Been looking for a good pocket welt video that was simple, concise and well displayed. Literally the best video on this particular technique. Thanks!
Awesome, thank you! I really want to re-shoot this video in my new studio, but I appreciate people are still watching this :)
Hope you're doing excellent this week!
So glad I found your channel! Great tutorial!😍
This is the most clear, concise, and beginner friendly welt pocket tutorial I've ever seen. Thank you so much!
Thanks for doing the 2 pockets in the same piece of fabric for comparison, because by the time you began the double welt I'd forgotten what the single welt looked like! So it was helpful to see them both side by side. Another great video!
For sure, very happy this was helpful. This video is super old, I might want to do it again actually :)

That was absolutely perfect! When I learned this technique video tutorials / computers did not exsist!
Thank you! I'm planning to re-shoot this video in my new shop with better lighting. Also I'd like to show how to do different 'thicknesses' of the welts to help people decide how they want theirs to look :)
Tock Custom sorry I haven’t been on my computer. When you say “thickness” are you referring to denim as opposed to a lighter fabric?
thanks!! i feel like i finally can wrap my head around this technique! best tutorial i have seen on it so far!
Excellent! Happy this was so helpful :)

Great tutorial as usual. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Especially for watching one of my oldest videos :)
Tock Custom You’re so welcome. You are a great help.
🎉 YESSSS...thats thé way to do this!!

Wow Tock I just realized this was your first tutorial..I just had to rewind a few times but awesome work as usual 😊
We all start somewhere lol - I didn't realize this was my first one! 😀
Really awesome stuff! Thanks :D
You're so welcome, thanks for watching!
Thank you soooo much.
Explained very well.
You're so welcome! Happy to be helpful. Thanks for the support
This pocket is neat thank you
I like it. This is good stuff.
Thanks a ton buddy. That was one of my super old videos, lots of newer and higher quality stuff coming out now. Hope you're making some cool stuff!
I just made this on some remnants for practice, and it came out great! I did put it on the wrong side of the fabric panel, but otherwise great.
That's awesome! Yeah, when I was new I was always putting fabrics the wrong way. Every time I make a mistake, I get better at sewing :)
Thanks for the comment!

Great video 😎
Thank you!
Bacanisimo muchas gracias por compartir
Thanks nice work first time seeing it did like this 👀 next time
This is certainly the "simpler" method, it's not "better", but with some practice its hard to tell the difference between the two :)
Thank you so much!
I'm debating on getting this machine or the brother se700/725 as my first machine, but concerned about how the se700 will perform if I make something like a canvas bag like you said the se400 had issues with. i like how your first tutorial ends on a cliffhanger
Props & Respect
Thanks for sharing the love
You’re a genius!! This was exactly what I was looking for; clean and simple. Thanks a bunch for making this video. I’m working on making some simple formal vest, if you have any tips please help out! 🙌🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I would love to see your take on making a canvas shop apron.
Oh I will totally do a video on making a shop apron. I've made a bunch, that would be fun, and pretty easy to teach :) Great suggestion
@@TockCustom Awesome! Thanks man!
How do you add a flap on top of the single welt pocket?
A boss you are
You're too kind my friend! Thanks for the support!!
I think i may try to a pocket like this in a little bag I am trying to make
Oh awesome, I hope it turned out well!
Don’t u iron the fusible interface?
where did that other stitching line (where the welt and pocket come together) come from. don't remember you making that stitching line?
Where can I buy fabric? Please paste some links.
If you're in the US, Joann Fabrics, and Fabric.com are some excellent resources.
You can also make your own custom designed fabric at Spoonflower.com
what does it mean when a polo has a welted collar? thanks for the awesome vid and explanation btw :)
That generally means its a two-part collar. The first part acting as a structure for the collar to take shape, and the 2nd part is the fabric that makes up the actual collar. It's a pretty cool technique too!
@@TockCustom thanks man.. Do you have a tutorial on that by chance?
@@mtcampbell1 Not yet, but it's on my list!
You apparently took Industrial Design, I see some of the precise drafting techniques used in technical illustrations

How do you do a hidden pocket stitch?
I'll have to do another video on that for sure, I know exactly what you're talking about though!
Tock Custom Thank you thank you!
Okay now, show me a single Welt pocket closed with an invisible zipper. Please and thank you.
I'll put it on my list! Great recommendation :)
