I watch this at least once a week. Anyone else an addict?
Absolutely. Love the bass player's energy
Count me in on that!
Bass player is seriously 'in the zone' - love this cover
@@michaelmacnamara1100 She really is. Drummer, too. The “make the face, hit the note” backups are also fantastic. All so fun to watch.
Funny you say that, I can't get enough of it and listen to it over n over
As a person old enough to have heard this played on the radio when it was released, all I can say is it’s a great pleasure to see today’s young talented people appreciate and pay respect to this music. Extremely well done. Kudos to all.
I remember when this came out as well. Just the right amount of reverb. What a pleasure!
I was also and I agree. I'd give them a B+
@@petschanel3072 I agree, she just sang, and with soul
I agree.
I heard this song in Wisconsin in 1966. I moved to California in 1973, and I've been here ever since.
I was 12 years old in 1965 in Oxnard, California it was paradise, no gangs no air pollution, just paradise.
I love California. I was ten in '65. Been here my whole life. But it was better then. I was from NoCal, but live in SoCal too. The pics of the beach and the city skyline made me sad for days gone by. The Bay Area was beautiful.
The future of music is in good hands. The recording and mixing effort that went into this are also very commendable.
I must say, ok , i’am a little bit drunk, and a old geezer. (Almost 70) But listen to this about 200 times i stil really get emotional how good this is .. thank you kids… (real)music is not dying ..
Btw, i also played 50 years in bands.
So true sir.
There are still dedicated musicians and songwriters out there that do the hard graft and small gigs.
All they need is a break.
But I think it's harder than ever to get through the commercial structure that's going on at the moment.
😂
Hey, another old geezer here. I agree! Cheers!
I recommend you "Skinshape" and "Khruangbin" ... their music will touch your soul
The background singers captured the spirit of the Mama's and Papas.
They Rock, great job capturing the sound of this classic
The lead singers voice is great and I can think of nothing negative so say about it but I feel it was the wrong choice for this song. This song needs a voice with more sparkle and at the same time more depth.
I just listened to the Mamas and Papas, just to refresh my memory of their performance of this song and it did not change my mind. I will have to see if Lauren is singing lead on anything else because as I said she has a great voice.
the singer killed it
Absolutely!
@@dinodasbunce6224 I'd disagree respectfully, I loved the edge on her voice in this one
I love watching Kamryn dancing with that bass. Just plain gettin into it.
This bassist... The girl really gets her groove. All of it together, love it. It is so good :)
It seems to be more her style. Compare this to her in 'Painkiller'. There it's more play the notes and that's it, here she's far more animated.
she did! the cut to the main singer is almost jarring since shes so still. lol
Yes and also the drummer is really feeling it
I hope all these great young people are still having a wonderful life performing.
Terrific everyone
I love the bassist's enthusiasm. She's really into it.
I hear what you're saying I take her with out the guitar 🎸 🤣
As it should be !!

A LITTLE LOVE FOR THE THREE BACK UP SINGERS
Whole lotta love (no pun intended) because without their smmooth harmony it doesn't work. KDM
They were awesome, nailed the harmony of the original. The lead singer not so much.
absolutely
@@Gamble661 I really enjoyed the lead singer's voice on this take. Added a more melancholy grove to the song. Seemed right-on for me.
A ton of love from most of you check the rest of the comments
These talented young people are singing a song their great grandparents listened to.
It wasn't that long ago..
Im 69 These kids bring tears to my eyes. Enough said.
That bass player has soo much soul in her fingers it's unreal!
I can't stop listening to this girl sing. What a haunting lovely voice.
I have the same attraction to Lauren's voice! And the rest of the group made it all meld together, better re-play it one more time!
Same here , keep coming back and listen over and over again.....
Absolutely
Love their version of this song. Lauren's beautiful, raspy, soulful voice is iconic. The back up vocals are mesmerizing as are the musicians playing along. Such tremendous talent.❤🎶🎸🎹🎙💜
me too
Love the timbre, the "color," of this lead singer's voice. She's definitely "got it." That indefinable magic vocal attraction. She needs to do a rock solo album.
I agree 100% - but the something has to be said about the chorus as well - they were awesome as well.
I agree, she is amazing
Kamryn playing the bass... I love how she is getting into the rhythm and moving with the flow. You can tell she has a passion for it.
I will tell you That John, Michelle,Cass, and Denny would have been touched by this cover. Beautiful cover
Not so sure about that
I'm not sure why so many people are commenting that Lauren is no Mama Cass. That is a totally irrelevant fact as the lead vocalist in the original Mamas and Papas version of the song was John Phillips. Check the video if you don't believe me. Mama Cass Elliot only sang background. Lauren's smoky voice covers this song perfectly. John Phillips also was no Mama Cass.
@Shelley Frihauf I don't know why people want to be so cruel. Here too in Canada things are sliding down the rudeness path more than I have ever witnessed in my 71 years. The velvet voice emenating from Laurens mouth brightens my day.
Truth!! She has an amazing voice! Everyone did an awesome job!! 👍🎶👍💓🎶👍
Because some people feel it is necessary to crap all over anything and everything. It is sad really.
John Phillips was no Mamma Cass! lol
awesome dig! you made my day!
Bravo❗️

WOW !!!! These kids are real professionals. Excellent.
I keep coming back to hear the backup crew. They are so dead on to the original that it's mind blowing. Perfection.
Same here!! A great version of this song!!❤❤
They did the Wrecking Crew proud. Higher praise there is not.
The backup singers were off the charts.
The leads voice is great too. Very soulful

THIS IS HOW YOU COVER A SONG!!! The kids are showing how it’s done. Bravo!
If you want to see young kids that are a band do covers. Listen to a band called Liliac ( pronounced lil-e-ack). They are extremely talented
The lead singer has such an amazing, smoky and raspy voice. I could listen to her sing all day. The backup singers absolutely nailed it, sounded identical to the Mamas and Papas.

I love the bassist, she is a pleasure to see and hear perform.
40 years in business. The lead vocalist with amazing voice color. I can hear her by hours. She is singing so effortlessly that my soul gets better immediately. Wish her all the best.
I would like to add that her voice reminds me Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac. More rocky but suits well to her delicate beauty.
Amazing voice very unique
The background singers KILLED it!
@ZERO COOL "Killed it" is a compliment
Pete Smith, zero thinks he’s badass by being disrespectful . Bashing others is how he gets his jollies.
@@danfrihauf8491 That's why he's "Zero" Cool. (not cool)
I 2nd that Pete.
They're vocal were insane. It is so hard to be a back up singer for this song. I have played this song over amd over again.
People who actually can sing and play instruments, wow!
In my 50s, glad real music will be preserved by young people like these. The drummer hasn't been mentioned much if at all. I thought he had good energy and feel and great rhythm. I've probably watched this 20 times so far.
Are we just going to pretend that the background singers did not just hit every note in perfect harmony? Wow, simply brilliant
They don't write songs like this anymore, but they sure can still sing them. And that's a good thing. Beautiful.
There are amazing songs written in all eras.
And it is wonderful from the way they sing the song they get it
The 60's were grand times for music and these kids did this song a wonderful rendition. I always loved it!
Cannot agree more
Have you ever looked up your "birth song" ? It's the no.1 song the day you were born. I was excited to look it up, being born Oct. 1969 ( so many great bands just coming out ) NOPE... mine was Archie and the jugheads, a damn cartoon band...so bummed...still
What a great rendition of this song by this group. The bass player was really rocking it. I am 72 years old and was mid teens when this song came out and this brought back a lot of good memories.
Amen brother - I’m 72 too and remember I’d take a transistor radio to bed and listen under the covers. Always a favorite.
The bass was originally played by the extremely talented Joe Osborn and on the drums was the great Hal Blaine. A rock-solid foundation to a phenomenal song. These kids do a nice job covering this classic.
Brought me to my knees-I’m 71. Fantastic song, fantastic musicians
Very cool 😎 ✌️
The bass guitarist is in a groove! So many bass players are just about lifeless. But this gal is big time part of the show! Excellent!!
She was great. I loved watching her bounce around. lol
The bass player is the singer, too. Their dresses match.
Hmmm, she shuffled a bit.
@@leopcat4336 - No. Dresses are different patterns, and the lead singer is wearing a necklace that the bass player doesn't have.
They do look very similar, but aren't the same person.
Also, there's two different people listed in the credits... Lauren Frihauf, vocals, and Kamryn on Bass.
I agree
I have to mention, its not just the performers that nailed it, its the audio engineers that wrestled with the reverbs, eqs, compression and overall balance that made this hit. Great job to all folks involved! The people behind the scenes running the studio have a lot of hard work to pull off great mixes, the population needs to see more of how cool that process is!!!
You know you're a huge Audio quality nerd when... ^^^^ Very true observation. Most of us don't think of all the little things that make the whole song work.
I second that motion ... totally agree, and well-said, I might add.
This sounds awesome on head phones
@@davidwesterberg375 Nor do we care.. it's all about the band :/
@@davidwesterberg375 I hardly call sound engineering a “little thing”. You could start with George Martin, and Phil Spector. Those are some early producers who greatly contributed to the success of famous musicians. (Hint: some people referred to George Martin as “ the 5th Beatle”.)
Absolutely brilliant. Such young super talent, I am amazed how beautiful you play a 50 year old song.
It's almost hard to believe that these are teenage students. They sound more polished and professional than many professionals. The vocals are thrilling, the keyboards and guitars brilliant, and the drummer drives the song with impeccable timing and skill. And the "traveling" bassist is such a joy to watch. Besides laying down perfect rhythm in total synch with the drummer, she clearly is having the time of her life. Whether these kids choose music as a career or just a hobby, they have the goods to go far. Cheers!
Remember, these are musicians. The rest are artists.
great insightful comment. A shame the instrumental bridge was not as in the original, a real wind instrument. There is hope for the youth of this world in the arts. P.S. I call Kamryn, the bassist, a " boogie bass player ".
I agree they nailed the song to perfection.
@@koentakinte2913what does that even mean?
I am sure the recording people and director were not students. But also for a professional recording this one is at very high level in all kind of manors.
It's good to see this younger generation playing good music.
So good.
This song is timeless. Glad to see a generation of 20 something’s keeping it alive!
The best arrangement I've ever heard since the original. Way to go guys!

Best ever cover of this classic. Still listening and just as awesome. Lauren voice is perfect, drummer, bassist, keyboard player and guitarist all nailed it. The backing singers are just brilliant.

The bass, The drums, The voices, Everything perfect!

That lady on bass is really rocking it out. Those girls in the chorus are too. Hell they all are. Great performance...
Chorus sounded great but also had a quality of being auto-tuned as well.
@@albertbrighten5691 no🎵
@@albertbrighten5691, everyone uses Autotune in the studio. It's a given. I play 7 instruments and have been in bands that recorded demos. When the studio mixes them, they use Autotune to get the best sound they can. Believe it or not, it's not really that much of a change to the tone of the vocalist. If they are little flat or sharp, it will bring them back to pitch. These kids don't have much of a pitch problem, so it makes them sound that much better.
This cover is perfect. Who is the girl having fun on the base? The back up singers are spot on. Their musical professors should be commended.

Your School of Rock gives out Master's degrees in musical EXCELLENCE!
Just when you think nothing can touch the original song, you hear a masterpiece like this one. I am beyond impressed with how good this song is. You have done the Mama & the Papas proud.

Dec I think it was. It was first recorded by Barry McGuire. Now this. This is truly a timeless classic that inspires awe !
I won’t mention any specifics. But these kids have made me like songs I’ve always hated before. That impresses me.
No not really....they buried the Mama & the Papas who were the biggest of fools who sold it all.

This song was released in 1965. It's so gratifying to see such young singers and players passionately connect with music that their grandparents grew up listening to.
