- A few years ago, I remember hearing Ain't No Sunshine in Notting Hill and I immediately fell in love with the soul in this song. Bill Withers is an absolutely legendary artist. This was always one of those songs that I just sang around the house... doing homework, cleaning my room, etc. but I never considered actually singing it. Then after I reaaally started liking to sing, my mom suggested I learn this one. The band is so unbelievable on this, I really hope you like our rendition :) xx canen

Well in truth the only way for an artist (cover band or just a fan) to properly cover a song especially a popular one is to own it. I mean plenty of people can and do make "good and faithful" copies/replications of popular songs. Very few can properly own their own version of it.

They not only did that. But did it regularly and with massive critical acclaim.

Good grief! The original by Bill Withers is a timeless classic, but this version I think is just as brilliant, absolutely wonderful, and all the musicians deserve credit too.

This girls voice is taking me to a place,,,, an old dimly lit saloon, creaking wood floors, ethereal smoke that hangs motionless, whiskey bottles 7/8 empty without labels or writing, 5 guys with no expressions on their sun-withered faces hiding beneath wicker hats hunched over their hands at a too-small round poker table in the back, and a woman’s voice, Smokey & smooth voice that seems to be coming from everywhere n nowhere, “ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone”

I've listened to this video numerous times. Everytime I'm blown away by the fact that Canen is just 12. There is so much more maturity and depth to her voice. She has a long and very successful career ahead of her.

It was competent, but hardly remarkable. There was no weight to the voice. At all. Perfectly fine performance for a 13 year old. Maybe by now she will be coming into her voice properly and have something a bit more solid to work with vocally.

No it's a cover. A rendition is just sampling music that's already been made and changing the music and even lyrics to make it different to your own taste
@@ChodyRay I think it falls somewhere in between. The music is essentially the same and the lyrics almost identical but the lyrical perspective is altered and informed by our knowledge of the singer. So it is mostly a cover but with a different perspective. I hope I am making sense.

I went to this show in Indy with my mom, shortly after my dad passed (38 yrs old, M.S.) and just a year before Stevie should’ve not rode that helicopter at a place that no longer exists in Indianapolis.. It was the Clay Courts here, a beautiful late Spring evening and his musicianship filled the air.. OMG… My grandfather had a recording studio, he recorded mainly jazz and some Blue Gras, yess turned Johnny Cougar away, lol.. Ok, his launch might’ve paid for some college tuition back then.. My grandad dug on Jazz,.. improvisation.. We’ll, that’s what SRV was all about! And really encouraged it, as long as you got those fundamentals.. OKay, SRV certain.y did.. What a fantastic show, I still can’t believe he left us.. Okay, and along with so many others too soon, with God given talent…

I was amazed how the cello commanded and controlled the song(in the best possible way) the whole band is tight,I didn't hear anybody needing a speeding ticket. A lot of people are focusing on the young lady and rightly so, her performance was frighteningly close to perfection. Oh hell, it was perfection or at least as close to perfection as anyone could possibly get. A young girl lamenting the absence of her father or a brother was a great twist on the original lyrics. The reversal in gender is obvious but just who she might be lamenting is anyone's guess. But the musicians and the quality of the video and recording were extraordinary. This is not so much a cover as an alternative version of the song from a very different perspective. I truly believe Bill Withers would have felt honored by this version. This is the very best youtube has to offer and it's justification for existence.
