There are eight teams since 1970 that I think you can make the argument for as being the greatest NBA team of all time. The 1986-1987 Los Angeles Lakers are one of them.

Ayyy got a sponsor!! Hell yeah
Glad to see you got a sponsor! You deserve to make money off these awesome videos
Hey glad you got a sponcer, can you just have the ad go at the beginning and the end in the future? It was little jaring and I think it broke the flow over the film
great you got a sponsor now you can make more for us yes and can you make more cases for people like “greatest blocker” “greatest at each postion” and stuff like that
Making a case : the best defensive player ever
🙌🏻
That’s what I was thinking too: I’d love to see one for Hakeem and Ben Wallace
Only one right answer. Bill Russell
I’d guess:
Payton
Jordan
Moncrief
Pippen
Kawhi
Duncan
Hakeem
Wallace
I’d also throw in Russell, Dik and Ewing, I just don’t where to put them,
@@fireshadowblade9 tony allen, pippen, Rodman, Payton, kawhi. Dang man the possibilities are endless. I think I like this idea more than any yet. Be better than any in my opinion bc a lot of people don’t understand the impact or the mental attitude of these players being able to lock up somebody
It just boggles my mind how the Showtime Lakers had both arguably the greatest Point Guard and arguably the greatest Center ever on the same team
Also James Worthy who was a number one pick
Kareem and Magic are each GOAT candidates as well. Not my picks but in the conversation.
To bad there primes werent at the same time
@@maxerickson4080 Yeah Worthy is the most unappreciated Laker. Dude needs a statue just like other greats.
superteam before superteams were a thing
"Honey please go to bed"
"Can't, gotta watch Larry Bird"
She must've been thrilled
@@ellandecampbell6279 after watching the legend she probably was
No gotta watch Kareem and Magic and Worthy and Scott and Cooper
@@coryburns9161 he’s talking about how Michael Cooper did that to study players like Larry Bird
@@sebastianro7746👍
This is probably my favorite team of all time. This wasn't contentious and toxic like MJ's bulls or as boring as the KD Warriors. This was fun, winning basketball.
Clayton argument are so great on each teams of that series being arguably the greatest team of time that…
He can make you believe that the 2011-2012 Charlotte Bobcats might be the greatest team of all time. 💯
I've watched the Tim Duncan one 5 times. He makes me believe it.

Watching one these while lying in bed with some food is one of life’s delights
Literally me rn
Was just gonna watch this, but now you’ve inspired me to wait till bedtime to chill and eat with this banger.
Ditto
Omg my boi got a sponsorship. Congrats
The fact that magic and kareem had such a major age gap, maybe it was meant to be. That's the perfect transition between two goat conversation players on the same team
Enormous credit has to give to Kareem, the GOAT, to let Magic takes the rein. Such unselfish act and class act!
Unlike Shaq and Kobe
@@coryburns9161 because shaq was obviously better
@@gunkmangeezy3741 you make no sense
This might be the best all round team in terms of players in the primes and roles. There’s nothing missing. Shooting, size, speed, IQ. damn what a team.
They got the size, defense, and speed to match up against Shaq and Kobe, Jordan and Pippen, even KD and Steph.
@Asim Ali Showtime won 5 titles in the 1980s with 3 different Finals MVPs. Magic won in 1980, 1982 and 1987. Kareem won in 1985 when they finally beat Boston and Worthy won in 1988 when they beat Detroit. How many teams in NBA history have had 3 players all capable of carrying the team to the championship when needed? Certainly not the Bulls. There was MJ, and then there was...MJ. Sorry, Scottie was never good enough to carry the team, even for a short series. The Lakers had 3 guys good enough to do that.
After watching 40+ years of NBA basketball the 1987 Lakers are the best team I have ever seen
James Worthy was a SUPERSTAR. He'd be a top player in the league with his own team.
Always nice to have the number one overall pick when your team had just won the championship two years ago before that
@@allsystemsgo8678 they win a title the year he got drafted
I never considered him more than decent. 5'3" Mugsy Bogues outrebounded him. He wasn't a scorer or a rebounder or a defender so.....What was so good about him again?
@@DrJohnnyJ You clearly know nothing about him so just educate yourself and you'll see.
@@DrJohnnyJ Worthy was an outstanding finisher and could pass and defend, his offensive rebounding numbers are comparable for his position, but he was asked to release and run the wing and let Magic grab the ball and ignite showtime. Also one of the most clutch players in history, he averaged 27 and 8 on 60% fg in game 7s, won a finals MVP, led the lakers in playoff scoring in their championship years of 87 and 88 and was 2nd in 85. His 21.1 play off average and 22.2 finals average is better than Isiah Thomas, Clyde Drexler, Reggie Miller, etc.
I kid you not: the moment he mentioned Seth Rosenthal, the noti for Secret Bases video on the Falcons popped up!
Love that!
Kinda crazy how Kareem played on two of these teams and played against another 2 of them. Amazing video as always
czcams.com/video/NeUDvtncqA0/video.html😂😂😂😂😂
Not this being Kareems second team on this list. Just another reason he’s my GOAT! Thanks for the content Crowley ✌🏻
I mean you could make the argument for the ‘91, ‘93, ‘96, and 98’ Bulls teams
@@jaybird1381 92 off? Lmao
@@asianbourne8063 92 and 97 didnt have the magic of the others
@@jaybird1381 ok maybe 97 but 92 is pretty much universaly regarded as the 2nd best bulls team
@@asianbourne8063 I’ve never heard anyone say that 92 is the second best. From what I’ve heard (including from my dad who was so entrenched in the 90s Bulls he named me Jordan) it goes: ‘96, ‘93, ‘98, ‘91, ‘92, ‘97
What’s it called when you’re nostalgic for a time you never experienced? That’s what this series is for me
Man, I almost cried watching this video, such an amazing homage to showtime. It is crazy how Special that era was, Magic passing, Worthy quick step, Jabars greatness, and then came the Celtics... WoW, brings back great memories of the golden era. Thanks!
yeah the 80s 90s and early 2000s i really loved
17:44 I believe James Worthy IS close enough to Pippen's status. They were both fast forwards who could slash and finish with style. Pippen, the better defender, led in passing, rebs, and steals at 16 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2 spg and 47% FG and 70%, FT, with Worthy scoring more, with better accuracy, at 18 ppg, 5 rpg, 52% and 77%

I’m actually really hyped that you are finally getting sponsored. You are an excellent creator who deserves to be rewarded for his work.
I've never seen that picture of bearded hippy Pat Riley before, holy shit.
Big game James. Those who saw him play will agree with me how his foot work and athleticism was pure art
With how the Lakers liked to play, he was a perfect fit due to his explosiveness in the open court.
Patiently waiting for "Making the case - 2017 Warriors"
same broooo
Do you think the big three heat will make it?
@@idkyou8188 I think it's just the spurs and warriors left
There's gonna be 8 total, and this is the 6th. Since the Heat show up in the intro before the "with apologies to Bill and Wilt" part, I think they're not gonna be included. Curious to see which Spurs they pick, though
@@taimurabid5135 it's tough to say. As a team unit, it's not even a competition. Plenty of Spurs teams were incredibly good because each player contributed and they cultivated a winning culture. Hence being the most successful post-Jordan franchise. They for the most part didn't need 1 guy to go off and score 40 in order to win games. The Big 3 Heat were also incredibly good when they were at their peak. You could also argue though that their Big 3 was kind of overrated. After 2011, Dwayne Wade wasn't the same player as he use to be. Chris Bosh was a great player who had moments, but he was also kinda overrated. Lebron was arguably at his best when he played for the Heat, that's their 1 saving grace. They had the best player in the league and when he was dominating, the team was actually good enough to really help him win Championships. The difference between the Heat and Spurs were that the Spurs had probably the best coaching in the league and had selfless superstars like Tim Duncan uphold a culture that prioritized defense, getting everybody involved, and winning games. The Heat were fun to watch, they had a player who could easily take over games when needed, and they could beat anybody in multiple ways.
Tough to tell. Curious to see what Clayton's gonna pick.
Clayton got a sponsorship, AND quotes Seth. I'M LOSING IT
Magic's star does not shine so bright without Bird.
Bird's star does not shine so bright without Magic.
They each cost the other a few championships, but oh what a time to be a fan. We were blessed. (I love both teams)
We need a series on the best players to never win. (Karl Malone. John Stockton. Reggie Miller. Barkley, Ewing, Iverson, etc.)
Nate Thurmond and Dominique Wilkins as well
Reggie was memorable but not one of the very best compared to other greats.
f malone
@@badwifi3069 Dude I watched Malone's whole career as a player and he was one of the best Power Forwards ever, being a Bulls fan I always respected him as a player.....Until I found out what a P.O.S. of a human being he really was.....holy crap.
nash?
Once again another fantastic video! My dad talks about how incredible this team was when he was in college, with this team being his absolute favorite!
Kareem, Magic, and Worthy: All won National Championships in college, all won NBA Titles in the pros, each won Finals MVP, and all were drafted #1 overall.....can't get no better than that.
Elite team building
So happy that CC finally got a sponsor for his work. His Making the Case series is both excellent and underappreciated. Currently sitting at 1.1K upvotes and a single downvote (probably bleeds green). Keep up the quality work Clayton.

I did not expect to be touched by yet another story about Magic. What a legend

Yeah weird, didn't come up for me either but figured I haven't seen any of CC's vids in a while - a very happy surprise!

Bro I always knew this was a goated year for them but bro. You just convinced me. I know you make cases for alot of teams, but me personally, seeing all this for the 87 Lakers matches all my criteria. Yea they got it. I'm taking them over everyone.
You're damn right!
You should do making a case: Best coaches ever.
Phil Jackson, no contest.
Pat Riley & Pop gotta be top 5
Phil Jackson is GOAT no contest
Candidates Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich, Red Auerbach, Pat Riley
It's Pop. Literally no one can do what Pop pulled off in 2014
THE BEST SERIES ON CZcams, PERIOD. CLAYTON YOU CONTINUE TO AMAZE ME
I just noticed you had a Duncan Robinson Jersey in your channel banner, that is hilarious
And then there were 2. 2017 Warriors definitely and probably the 2014 Spurs, but I can also see the 1972 Lakers.
The greatest team ever and the greatest trio ever.
That Seth reference was excellent, *chef's kiss*
2 of the best players in NBA history at the SAME TIME with the best starting five ever. They’re easily the best team in league history.
Best starting 5 ever? Nope, not really. Celtics had 4 Hall of Famers in their starting 5. Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, and Dennis Johnson.
@yourdaddy6030 1973 Knicks had FIVE hall of famers in the starting 5.
I guess that means their entire starting lineup.
6 really, cause their starting Center position was equally shared by Reed and Jerry Lucas both Hall of Famers.
Walt Frazier
Earl Monroe
Bill Bradley
Dave DeBusshere
Jerry Lucas/Willis Reed.
Any questions?
As much as Iove isaih and my Pistons this brought tears to my eyes...damn what a time to be alive....the Lakers, the Celtics, the Pistons coming up, the Oakland A's, the 49ers, the Giants and Redskins.. Jordan, Barkley, Marino and elway my Phillies till had Mike Schmidt...damn😭🥲🤧
I can't believe I forgot how amazing Kareem was in his later years haha
Kareem, Duncan and Lebron so consistent with age. Especially Duncan and Lebron in terms of being able to keep up in their defensive roles.
Watching this team as a kid in the 80s is why I’m still a lakers fan to this day
AC Green, an excellent player who worked really hard and sacrificed everything for his team whilst maintaining perfect moral integrity. Indeed a rara avis.
Truth
damn, our boy got a sponsor. good on you, clayton. great video as always.
This is my favorite basketball team, hands down. Every time they were on CBS back in the day I was up watching them, and I would be tired going to school the next day. But it was all worth it when Magic hit that baby sky hook.

Just think if Larry Bird would have hit the game winning 3, it would have gone down as the best game winning shot of all time, think God he missed it, he thought it was going in.

Me: It's showtime, baby!
As a kid in the 1980's, I took basketball for granted, but wow, the 1983 76's, 1986 Celtics, 1987 Lakers and 1989 Pistons are all legit teams that could steamroll anybody.
1985 Lakers as well.
@@lynnerose7891 Good point 1985 Lakers for some reason get overlooked.
well, my heart was already with them, since with them I begun to love basketball... but even after all this years... I can confirm that they were the best that I have ever seen to play the game!
YES! 1987 LAL were the apotheosis of the best team that ever played this game!
In my opinion the showtime lakers have the best highlight reel in history, the most amazing plays I have ever seen
Great man ! Never stop making these making the case videos,it's one of my favorite things on the internet :)
God damn what dunk of James @13:32 eat shit Bill lol. Great video, im loving these.
I absolutely love your videos. Please continue to make these man!
Love learning about these all time teams/players. You do such a good job mate! Cheers
I appreciate your content so much! I watch all the big basketball CZcamsrs but no one gets me that excited when he releases a new video. Keep it coming man!
I've been watching this channel for a while now and i'm really impressed. Keep up the excellent work! Love the open mind-set!
This was just beautiful man. I'm in tears. Great great video
Showtime at its best for sure. And mostly because Magic was finally the centerpiece of the team.
These Lakers would've probably beaten the early 1990s Bulls in a Finals series. They wouldn't have lost in 1991 like they did with that stripped/injured roster
No doubt they would've
Well thats cheating....these and the 01 Lakers were the best Lakers teams of all times....how about this 87 vs the 96 bulls, were both teams are matured, been in high stressful play off games and finals, not the young 91 bulls.
As someone who's watched and obsessively studied basketball since 1969 , imo if you could move those 90s Bulls back ten years to the 80s, they wouldn't have won a single championship and most likely not even gotten to one most years.
Your content is outstanding. Keep up the great work. Lakers for Life!!
I absolutely love thiese videos. Thank you so much for creating them! Everytime I watch them I'm convinced that this is the best greatest team or player. And then I watch the next one and I am convinced all over again.
Please continue...!
Lets go another clayton crowley video to watch!! Love these vids so entertaining and informative.
Man, Pat Riley really is one of the greatest coaches and leaders ever to not be talked about as much as Phil.
His resume speaks for itself, even as a background office head for the Heat.
There’s just so many things right here for this team to work so good. Magic and Kareems leadership qualities cannot be understated.
Every video is a masterpiece, thank you Clayton! Always a pleasure to see your new uploads
I keep watching these videos over and over, huge fan of all your series.
My favorite team and favorite player alltime Ervin "Magic" Johnson🙂. Byt rhose 83 and 69 76ers teams are the 2 most underappreciated and undervalued teams in NBA history. I wouldn't want to see either one.
It’s a great day, you posted a video. Absolutely love the videos bro. Ur amazing
great collection of highlights. I enjoyed this so much
Another fantastic vid! Love the Secret Base reference you snuck in there
World class videos man, keep them coming!
I be real live waiting 4 these excellent work Clayton 💯
Clayton your basketball content is the best I've seen on youtube. Looking forward to the video of my favorite team the 2014 San Antonio Spurs. Thank you.
I've said that the 1987 Lakers could very well be the greatest team ever. Certainly, from top to bottom, they are the best Lakers team ever, with all reverence to the great 1972 Lakers' championship team.
Great video! I've mainly just been getting into basketball recently (due to the Last Dance despite playing very casually in high school) and have watched and rewatched your videos over the last few months! I was waiting for the late-80s Lakers, the '96-'98 Bulls were amazing but this has been the most entertaining team for me.
I recommend you watch Jimmy Highroller!

The two greatest Lakers Teams of all-time 1986-87 & 2000-01 Lakers

Great video Clayton. Def one of the best in terms of historical analysis. This one didn't really sell me on 87 Lakers. But always love the videos.
this one didn't sell you ?
if this doesn't sell you then I fear for you
I love this series, I make sure to have free time and wide awake so I don’t miss anything. Seriously top notch quality videos with great detail and not dragged out. Heck I’d even pay to watch them at this point.

That was excellent. Loved the Seth Rosenthal shoutout...that Rewinder series is fantastic.
Yesssssssssssss!!! This type of análisis of an nba Team is off the charts
Great video, great editing but also great music!!!
I like the nod to Secret Base specifically to Seth. Great Video once again.
The fact that Kareem is on two of the videos and that those teams were 16 years apart says a lot about him
Hey Clayton your my favorite CZcamsr ever just keep making incredible content
These videos are so feckin' good. Always gets me excited to see the notification. And this only has 2 dislikes!
Just imagine if the Kobe/Shaq lakers would have had that same transfer of power that Magic and Kareem had, the amount of championships would have been infinite.
Basically and I hate Lakers..That's why can't say they the best Duo . NEVER GOT it completely together like Magic/KAREEM, Scottie and Michael
I just don't understand how a person could watch a video like this and still think players from the 80's were athletically inferior to todays players..
Worthy was an otherworldly athlete, a 6'10 racehorse w/elite jumping ability. The idea that, idk, Klay Thompson (no shade toward Play, who is great in his own right) is somehow more able to hang athletically than Worthy is laughable. As a pure athlete, Worthy would humiliate all but a very small handful of SFs who've come since
I think this is the one that’s convinced me the most.
My man's back at it with another banger!
Makes my day when this man uploads.
Can’t wait till you hit 100k subs!
That team was loaded from beginning to end with superstar Hall of Famers
Nice to hear from you CLAYTON
Great vid. Loved the Seth Rosenthal reference !
Hey! 👋🏾 I love ya work and I appreciate this channel a lot..it's actually one of the most rational safe spaces on all of social media when it comes to talking basketball and I love it. I just have one request. May you please do a "making the case" for Kobe?...as time has gone by I think many have forgotten about how great Kobe was due to his last few years not being that great due to injury and him being retired for a little bit before be passed. I just would like for someone to go into detail in his stats, records he's broken/set and still holds till this day and analyzing his game beyond the cliche things; him scoring 81 in a game, 62 in 3 quarters, etc...I just feel it's more to how much he's apart of the histroy books that many don't even talk about because they aren't aware due to the spotlight not being on him as much as it once was.
Wow. Film editing and writing as poetic as the game of basketball was with this team on the Court.
Bravo, case made 👏🏽
Another one to watch over and over again
