Rippling Watercolors
By Brian Balmages
00-50687
MakeMusic Young Band
Grade 2
While many often underestimate the extensive colors, harmonies, and emotional ranges available to younger ensembles, this stunning lyrical work by Brian Balmages sets out to explore those very qualities and more. While playable by middle school bands, Rippling Watercolors is a fully expressive work that is equally at home with mature ensembles. Gorgeous.
About ColorFlex
Conductors no longer need to choose between function and texture! Ensembles with instrumentation challenges still have numerous options to cover all parts, yet orchestration is elevated significantly to be faithful to the composer's original intent. Musicians have more opportunities to rest, and timbre once again becomes a central element of each work. So go ahead and have the best of both worlds: flexible and colorful.

😭🥺 that moment when your band director has this as the very last piece so your notes sound spitty and wet. We had 8 songs to play. Bridgeview, fire dance, Under an Irish sky, Loch Lomond, Moscow 1942, Nebula, Arabian dances, and Rippling watercolors. The band director we had for this passed away due to a heart attack and I miss him so much. I was his most improved player 💔 everyone else hated him but he helped me improve and see the beauty in the fact that they aren't just notes you play on a page. They move you
Fire dance is probably an all time favorite of mine
My band director is the same he told us during rippling make a story out of the song and act like your playing for a loved one and put your soul into it
This song makes me cry. I still remember the first time I ever heard it when my brothers were playing it, and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It made me happy and sad at the same time, which is a feeling I hope not to forget. Such a beautiful and emotional piece and is one of those moments you know music has emotion.
😢 I know right
One of my favorite songs I’ve played
the oboe being heard makes it’s so much better
I love this peice so much and it makes me cry every time i hear it because i had a gecko thay has recenly passed on, it makes me think of her every time and im playing this in band right now
I played the French Horn part in my own university's band. I love this piece of music, its so beautiful.
I have to play the French horn part at in my band to im in grade 9 and the only French horn player is me wish me luck!
remember playing this in my last concert in 7th grade. That last visit to the band room felt like leaving home for a long time and never coming back. I wasn't placed into band the following year.
I come back to listen every now and then. Still brings tears to me eyes from when i last performed it.
Playing this for lgpe in my high schools symphonic band this year and the phrasing, instrumentation of this song just gives me goosebumps every time we play it
Life hack listen to this and endless rainbows at the same time the chords are amazing
My middle school is playing this I am excited
I love this piece I didn’t get to play it my 8th grade year because of covid and now I’m a senior who just had her last UIL on Friday :(
Same here
Interestingly it is Grade 2 - If you're an advanced band, dont miss out on using this one in your rehearsals in the bandroom
our old director used to use this as a tuning exercise!

Im a euphonium and we are playing this for assessment. It makes me sob
same
I played this in 7th grade along with Mountain of the Sun and Marzo Zingaro. These are my favorite 3 pieces to play at the moment.
It's a beautiful piece.😊
I play crash cymbals in this. We’ve only just got this piece as a band tho. I was so nervous but I executed it pretty well. :)
I also play triangle too with that.
Triangle and Crash Cymbal Ain't that hard...
I got the vibe :)
I played this piece almost 2 years ago at all region
That’s what IM about to do!
@@zigmaster5199us too. our band teacher is also having us play a Halloween song 💀
@@a_bp13 I would ask if we were going to the same all region but I’m not doing a Halloween song (but one of them could kinda be classified as that’s so I’ll start it off so you live in America…?????)
@@zigmaster5199 I didn’t read that it said all region I’m talking bout middle school band
@@a_bp13 ah okay
Anyone else think the Bar 16 section here sounds like the Bar 35 section in 'The Witch and the Saint'?
I played that song last year and that section at measure 16 reminds me of it every time.
Um, Brian, eyes on your copy. I know Randall Standridge is a good composer, but you’re not allowed to copy off his test!
