- As many of you know I LOVE Ingramspark, but until now I'd only tested out the paperback and hardcover versions of the creme paper and matte cover, and I've always wondered how the gloss cover and white paper would compare. So in the interest of science, I ordered a duplicate of Alethiea with the gloss cover and white paper, and this video is all about showing you the differences.

This was definitely the best review I've seen for Ingram here on CZcams. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hey Mel.... I watch ur CZcams videos and was surprised to see your comment here.
Amazing review: it gets right to the point - matte with cream paper! :) Thanks!
1. This is the most helpful video I have found on this topic and has more detail than IngramSpark's own tutorials.
2. Really nice audio and video quality!
3. Thanks for pronouncing Aletheia correctly!
This was VERY helpful. One of the most helpful self publishing videos that I’ve watched and I’ve watched a few. Subscribed. Thank you!
We have been blessed by the queen of ingramspark tips and tricks💕
Awww stop it I'm blushing :o
Thanks for putting it so clearly and non-lengthy! You are great! Very well put together video. Love your cat :)
Thank you ❤
straight to the point , accurate explanation , detailed and qualtiy video , very much thanx to you .
Just stumbled onto you randomly. I'm very impressed! You've got something going on and are obviously going to be a CZcams star. You just need to post WEEKLY at minimum and answer fan quetions. Subscribed.
THIS IS BEYOND IN DEPTH MUCH LOVE AND GOD BLESS !!!
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful.
love your bookshelf! ❤️
Super helpful video! Thanks!!
Insightful and concise summary. Thanks.
I'm now changing from gloss to matte. You helped confirm some suspicions I'd been harbouring about gloss!
Glad it was helpful!
Super Helpful! You rock!
Glad it helped!
Thank you
I watched several videos but did not find a good answer, this video is great + nice product + nice girl
Thank you for such an in-depth comparison. It's helpful to be able to see things like paper bleed-through side by side. You also made a good point about the creme paper possibly looking off with a white cover. Great video as always
The cat scene was hilarious.🤣
This was very helpful! Thank you!
Thank you! So helpful.
Thanks for making this video. I will now be able to create my small project. Thank you so much .
You are welcome! Thank you for watching!

YES ANOTHER INGRAMSPARK VIDEO
FUCK YES I LIVE FOR THESE
And I live for this enthusiasm @.@. It has been a while, hasn't it? I should do some more while I'm at it. I just always struggle to find topics lol
@@CloudKitten quality over quantity. Don't force them. All of your videos are amazing ❤ these just happen to be my personal favorites
I was wondering if your matte covers have held up well? I have encountered self-published books where the matte texture was peeling off, revealing a regular gloss cover beneath and the effect was super cheap and tacky. I've also seen self-pubs where the paperback cover starts to warp and curl badly with age. Hoping to avoid that!
Thank you for this in-depth review of the difference between the cover types. Very helpful! The books look great based on this video. Hopefully they aged well, too.
Really it was helpful for me ,, Thanks a lot dear ,,,,
Most welcome 😊
Great video, thanks! What about the Groundwood paper option? How does that compare to the white and creme options?
That's interesting that the white paper makes the book thinner. The matte covers do tend to look more expensive for some reason. It catches fingerprints really bad if there are a lot of dark colors on the cover though. I haven't experimented with a dust jacket yet. I've been doing case laminate hardcovers. I should try a dust jacket out one day. I want Ingram to offer purple hardcovers. Haha.
That book looks incredible!! But one question: have you got any lucky in bookstores with Ingram Spark?
Thanks for this video. Some hard cover books have decorative artwork on the inside of the front and back covers. Does Ingram Spark allow that? Do you know of a resources to show how that is set up?
Or use a polarising filter on your lense,,,
I also prefer the cream color paper...easier on the eyes and gives the book just a little more volume. I do use glossy covers for my book series: Edward Mendez, P. I. But, I think the matte works just fine for your book.
Best regards,
Gerard Denza
This was a very helpful video, thank you. Where did you find the templates for the covers for both hardback and paperback, or where did your designer find them?
I'm happy you found it helpful :D If you go to their website > Reasorces > Tooks> and scroll down they have a template generator. You fill out your info and then they'll email you a template. They have some other helpful tools there as well like the compensation calculator, and spine width calculator. Here's the link: myaccount.ingramspark.com/Portal/Tools/CoverTemplateGenerator?hsCtaTracking=c2c2976f-6b22-4f81-80bd-a9d9d96a424e%7C4d47d816-8bc8-45f8-9410-055a02ed984a
@@CloudKitten thank you so much!!
You're welcome! Feel free to reach out whenever you have questions. Ingramspark has a rough learning curb, but once you learn the ins and outs it gets much better
Can you please do a tutorial on uploading your book to Ingramspark?
Thanks!
When I do my next book I will document the process and post a video
Traditionally, nonfiction books have white paper, while novels have cream.
Hello
When I design a cover for my book(CMYK color) and put it on Amazon kdp it appears in faded colors, but on the other hand I see books in clear colors for other people, should I put my book in (RGB color)
What do you advise me
Thanks so much for this. Did you need to create a new identifier and use a different ISBN for the cream vs white paper?
Yes, but you don't have to. I made a separate book during one of Ingram Sparks free title periods (they usually offer one around NaNoWriMo each year, you can sign up for their newsletter to get notified) and made that book white paper and gloss cover. I did it that way because my book was already released and I always knew I wanted cream paper and matte for this title, so I didn't want anyone to make an order and end up with the test configuration. If you're in the pre-release period and are just ordering test prints you don't have to use a separate ISBN.
@@CloudKitten - thanks so much! best wishes with your books.
have you done a comparison on paper weight? They have an 38 lb option but is it basically toilet paper?
My copy of Aletheia came in last week :)
Ahhh that's so exciting! Thank you for ordering
@@CloudKitten I love dystopian and what you've said about fiction, so the odds are in your favor!
Points for the Hunger Games reference.
@@CloudKitten that reminds me that I need to look for Easter eggs in your book!
Hi. Thank you for the comparisons. I printed a book from Ingram Spark and chose 'hardcover case laminate' option and 'matte finish'. I noticed that fingerprints show pretty badly on the cover. I was wondering if you had any experience with this and whether the glossy finish on the case laminate hardcovers is any better with regard to this problem.
I haven't noticed. But to be honest the only version I've read all the way through was the hardcover and I took off the jacket. I haven't had anyone report issued though
The glossy finish on the case laminate doesn't show fingerprints like the matte does, which is is why I ended up going with the glossy. The fingerprints drove me crazy.
The cat face 😂😂😂
thnak you for video, what the best paper white or cream paper for Coloring book ?
Generally white as it interferes less with the colors chosen by the user, but I don't have much experience with coloring books so take that with a grain of salt
What font did you use for your interior text? I really like it! For like chapters?
Also size?
The chapter headers are Brandon Printed and I believe the main text is Adobe Garamond Pro. Main text is probably 11 pt, but I can't remember on the chapter headers. Sizing varies a lot with those more custom fonts
Did you choose white or cream paper?
The close up of the cat...😂
What is the difference between the standard and premium color options, from Ingramspark? Is there really a discernible difference that makes it worth making the print cost so much higher???
Color options... do you mean for books with images in them? I actually wouldn't know. The covers are always the same quality color though
what color paper would you suggest for a sketchbook?
Sorry for the late reply. Definitely white since it won't interfere with any colored art tools they try to use on the page
So I’m trying to do a hardcover with with my children’s book and I don’t know whether to choose standard paper or premium paper..is there a huge difference?
That is an excellent question and I sadly don't have an answer, I don't think they had those options last I checked. Is it an illustration book with glossy paper, or just standard hardcover?
Hello, How long did it take for your book to show up on Amazon website?
I think it was about 48 hours but it was a long time ago so I'm not 100%.
@@CloudKitten thank you!
Hey! I know this is an old video, but how did you do the illustrations under the chapters? I’ve been trying to figure out how to do that…
Also, when’s the sequel?:)
I have a full Adobe suite subscription, so I searched Adobe Stock for something like "ivy divider" with the vector filter and then incorporated it into the chapter headings using Adobe Indesign. I actually did all of the formatting myself in Adobe Indesign. I'm not sure I would recommend this route to the average user though. There is a HUGE learning curb, and I had the benefit of experience with Adobe, software engineering, and a whole lot of research and self-teaching skills and even then I spent probably 3 weeks doing nothing but learning the ins-and-outs of the software as well as standard formatting practices. For most people it's much more efficient to just hire a formatter, it's one of the cheaper aspects of publishing and most pros can likely accommodate headers.
Oh, as for the sequel... It's essentially written, I'm just trying to overcome my anxiety for long enough to face editing and betas. Turns out NA dystopian is a hard sell, and it's made it hard to scrape together motivation to get the sequel out and in the world. It is a passion project though so I refuse to give up, but I also don't have much spare time for passion projects at the moment
I have a question. My pricing was WAY too high for both the hardcover and paperback. How do I make it less? I tried reducing the price, but then I get only $1 as revenue. Thank you so much!
How many pages is it? Print on demand costs more than what publishers pay their printers so generally you have to take a hit on profit to stay competitive. Though self publishing means you have less overhead so the cut in profit is more possible while still leaving you with more money than a trad author would make.
@@CloudKitten It's 540 pgs. Oh okay I see. Thank you. So does that mean I should try to lower it more?
@@CloudKitten Also I just realized, maybe it's also because I chose the jacketed case laminate, the new version that lets you have a design on the case for the hardcover. Maybe that effected the price?
@4:20 for a free sample of the book ;)
I think people are better off with the PDF of the first 5 chapters which they can find on megantennant.com/samplechapters lol
Does ingramspark give you refunds for torn/damaged books that ship to you? Or do you have to cover those?
I believe they would ship out replacements. At least that's what they did with me when there was a printing error.
@@CloudKitten Thanks for the quick response! I fell into the indie-publishing rabbit hole and I'm really inspired by channels like this! I went to school for Illustration and Studio art, but worked in marketing for the last 4 years. I'm excited to publish my first children's book and to plan a mini book tour in my city. If you have any advice on planning your first book tour, I'd look to watch it!
The floppier The better!
I never realized how popular floppy books were until publishing Aletheia. It's truly weird how often people mention the flop level lol
Cloud Kitten Chronicles more flop, no crack.
Damn I'm not first lol
Oh no, you're slipping. Aphrodite is out to get you.
@@CloudKitten I know! I've been protcrast8ing too much 😂
Lose the nose ring.
Well that should be pretty easy to do given I have never in my life had a nose ring.
