- Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - 1987 World Figure Skating Championships, Ladies' Long Program - Elizabeth Manley of Canada had an opportunity to win her first World medal here, but the fall on the triple Lutz stunned her, and she was not able to regain her composure, doubling most of her planned triple jumps. She would still manage to hold on to finish in 4th Place overall.

Elizabeth Manley was the Debbie Reynolds of the skating world during this time frame. They even kind of look a like.
That first double axle was a BEAUTY!
I loved her
5.7 and 5.6 for technical merit??? How is that possible? She did only one tripple!
right? crazy! I'd have given 5.2/5.7
@@Person-mh6xq I would say your marks are accurate. Those would probably be my marks as well
Dick Button at the 1991 Nationals said that Tonya Harding "reminds you a little bit of Liz Manley... a little of Janet Lynn..." Not saying I agree but that shows that a person could see the connection without being entirely off the wall.
I've never heard anyone talk about Janet Lynn and Liz Manley in the same sentence. Not quite sure what Scott was looking at.
He was being superficial - talking about their physical resemblance (which I see very little of).
@EmmaTav
agree...very different skaters to say the very least...
@EmmaTav In terns of the skills, I agree with you. I think Hamilton was talking about the personality factor, as Manley and Lynn were both bubbly on the ice. Lynn, of course, was far more refined than Manley in her presentation. By the way, many of the judges were quite generous here, weren't they...
They were scoring her 1986 program apparently
