In this video, Dr. Berg talks about anti-nutrients in vegetables and other foods. Plants naturally develop certain defense mechanisms to help them survive for a long time and to prevent insects and other predators from consuming them.
    Phytoestrogens
    • Certain plants like flax and soy have these chemical compounds that could create a little birth control effect in insects.
    Phytic Acid
    • It is another anti-nutrient chemical that prevents the absorption of many minerals including zinc, iron, calcium, etc.
    • It is in seeds and nuts (in the bran part).
    • It has the property of being a chelator - which binds with certain chemicals specifically iron.
    • IP6: bit.ly/2Gu1sYy
    Lectins
    • These are certain proteins in plants that are used as a protective mechanism because they break down certain parts of the digestive tract and put holes in the gut lining which creates a leaky gut.
    • They are in nights shades, white potato, soy, brown rice, grains
    • Avoid lectins if you have an autoimmune condition.
    Oxalates
    • These are chemical compounds that our body also makes that can bind with calcium and create crystals which create a lot of problems with kidney stones and even inflammation, and arthritis and could accumulate in different parts of the body.
    Saponins
    • It is a detergent-like that will dissolve a cell membrane
    • It is another protective mechanism in certain plants - in nightshades, legumes, amaranth, and buckwheat.
    Related Conditions and their Remedies:
    1. Bloat - Change veggies (Lettuce - Cook Vegetables)
    2. SIBO
    • Cut out veggies temporarily
    • Increase acidifiers for the stomach
    • Take herbal antibiotics (garlic, oregano)
    • Intermittent Fasting
    3. Rotate consumed vegetables - Pickled Fermented Veggies
    4. Autoimmune
    5. Kidney Stones

Dr. Berg, you have been recommending, fervently I might add, for years & years that people eat 7-10 cups of oxalates a day (aka veggies & leafy greens). Although you have addressed the oxalate issue with this video, you completely neglected to address your previous recommendations and the confusion this video must now cause to people who are still consuming large amounts of oxalates. This is a serious issue. As someone who ate her veggies & salads every single day for decades, thinking it was a healthy choice,, I have learned that I have oxalates in many joints in both feet, hips, spine, shoulders and thumbs. I had a bone scan done head to toe checking for metastasis (all clear yayyy) and found that I was loaded with oxalates. I think this subject requires you to dive deeper and address it again. You have a huge following. You owe it to them because they hang on every word your say. Their health depends on it. Having said all that, you do offer a lot of good information & you do help a lot of people. I do believe you are a good man, as well as a smart business man.. I hope the latter never overtakes the former.

Long story shortened greatly, I finally went full-on carnivore two weeks ago after being on keto for four years, but only getting sicker and sicker. I'm finally feeling like a normal human being, even with a lot more healing to take place.
I'll never eat vegetables again, no matter that I love them, and ate hundreds of pounds of them over my many years on the planet. No more plant-based foods of any kind whatsoever, and at this point, I don't miss them.

I’m amused by these people; they clearly just want something to bitch about since they’re ignoring all the parts that would satisfy their complaints.
“It really depends on the individual”
“If you don’t have a problem with these foods...eat them”
He provided information on lower lectin options.
He clearly made sure not to omit the information that any ailments the person is experiencing may clear up if they steam/cook vegetables instead of eating them raw, if they rotate the form they eat or simply change the choice of vegetables they usually eat.
This is obviously a general information video aimed at people who need help identifying which compounds can aggravate their ailments so he didn’t really NEED to mention _“Germinate...soak them... pickled... fermented... to decrease the antinutrients & increase the nutrient bioavailability”_ in this video specifically but he did anyway. That’s the opposite of what someone with an agenda does.

They’re made with zucchini, carrots, some type of corn fiber or whatever. Who would have thought that would cause me intense joint pain! Somehow many negative commenters seem to have missed Dr Berg's comments about culture (in both senses) mitigating the detractors of plant foods (4:35). Soaking, pickling, fermenting, cooking... anything we'd attempt to eat that might be otherwise challenging to our systems we'd be wise to ask first: 'What's helping me eat this?' Or even, 'what's eating this for me?'

The plantfreeMD has a similar one but a bit stronger "Plants are trying to kill you"
They succeed in killing insects but for humans the chemical warfare results in low grade poisoning or so that carnivore doctor argues. Come to think of it many plants will kill humans too. But the vegetables and other plants that humans have been known to eat he views as lowgrade poisons which are good enough to survive in desparate situations but abundant in toxins nonetheless.
He argues that animals foods provide everything we need in terms of nutrition without any of the antinutrients and toxins.

Neither do animals. I reckon that probably *no* living being wants to be eaten. And animals suffer, consciously.
It is true that science is discovering plant communication and distress signals (of course the jury is still out on whether they can actually "feel" pain). In that case, of course, I would expect any carnivores who actually claim -- and are not engaged in a silly "gotcha!" tactic -- to care about sentient life, and plant life in particular, to refrain from lawn mowing, weeding, clear-cutting trees, or dumping toxic chemicals in soil and water systems (the former two have questionable value beyond aesthetic taste or property value, the latter are bad for the environment and have a direct negative impact human health).
At any rate, given that this is not merely a discussion about the viability of diet within a narrow framework of health, but a broader ethical topic concerning the wellbeing of living beings generally, perhaps we should consider what diets cause more or less suffering and ill-being. At the very least, I think we can agree that our current factory farming practices are enormously harmful to living beings, plant and animal.

If we have any sensitivity to any one of these while consuming it chronically then the problem may exacerbate. I have now living eating a ketogenic lifestyle for 2 years.
