- Picture the scene: you’ve got £10-15,000 to spend-lucky you-you’re looking to buy a watch and you’ve got a soft spot for chronographs. The default choice, requiring another good dollop of luck and more than likely a whole lot more spend, is the Rolex Daytona. Classic choice. Nice one. But even if you could get one, I’d say hold up a sec-because I think you’ll like this more.

Watchfinder: uses new music
Everyone: Streets of London!
The old music is better
Boycott Rolex
I for one really enjoy the new music.
Please get back to old music. The track used is simply boring and out of place.
Just as a suggestion. Not everyone has that kind of cash to blow on a chrono. However, there's bags of quality to be had for less and a brilliant and beautifully designed watch that comes to mind is the Sinn 103 St Sa Classic Pilot Chrono.
Unbelievably cool wrist presence, tough as old boots and the kind of price a good tool watch should retail at - if it weren't for the current nuttiness out there.
Could you kindly look into reviewing one of those bad boys please.
Peace and love ✌️
I’ve lost track how many times I’ve watched this video.
JLC Master Control Chronograph is just absolutely stunning.
The dial layout, case design and finishing really is perfect. A serious pause for thought for a one watch collection and from a criminally underrated brand in Jaeger-LeCoultre. I rushed to get this a year ago and never looked back. I've owned Daytona's, they're great, but when it comes to the value you get in watchingmaking, a Daytona realistically available only on the grey market at £30-35k vs this fairly available at retail £13k? It isn't even a fight.
I don’t believe it’s even a fight at 13k a piece.
My grandpa had a White dial zenith from the mid 90s until he passed in 2003. I have a soft spot for the Daytona but totally agree that this is a far better example of fine watchmaking.
As much as I like This watch I don’t like the fact the the chronograph second hand covers the moon phase part, that really bugs me!
@@rey_s90 can’t say I’ve ever noticed/been bothered, but aware most chrono moon phases have second hands that overlap the moon phase. Can always keep the chrono running so it’s moving?
cool thing is you can get one!
I like to watch spot when I'm out and about, and I generally make it a point to compliment people's watches if/when I get the chance to. One thing I've noticed is that people with the more popular brands (Rolex and Omega) simply say thanks and move on with their lives. Which is fair, it's only a watch and not everyone cares as much as we do.
But every now and then, when the stars align and there's a blue corn moon, I'll encounter someone with a JLC. And when I complement it, their eyes light up, they glance at my wrist, notice that I also like watches, and a whole conversation ensues. It's a great way to meet people with similar interests, as long as you don't look shady and they don't think you'll try to mug them lol
I agree, esp about ones with the popular brands/models. Re the not so common, I recently saw a Patek World Time yellow gold without knowing what it was, complimented the owner about his watch and he was genuinely happy and even let me try it on without me asking. It was only later that I found out that it costs c. $135,000. Down to earth, cool gent with a beautiful watch.
A couple of years ago I told the cashier at a restaurant that I liked his AP Royal Oak,. His face lit up with joy and proceeded to have a chat for about a few minutes about watches and the AD that he had bought his watch from. I am guessing that the general public did not recognise his Royal Oak.
@@EddyWoon that's actually really funny because that happened to me yesterday. Bumped into a guy wearing a royal oak at a coffee shop. Complimented his watch and we had a whole conversation. I mentioned I wanted a VC Overseas and he gave his nod of approval saying it's a true enthusiast brand because most normal people don't know about it. Nice guy, I regret not asking for his name
@@EddyWoon damn that cashier makes a lot of money
I have a Rolex Submariner that I inherited from my father, so to me that piece is priceless. I would not go out of my way to buy a Rolex, especially at todays bloated prices. JLC has always created art on your wrist, the fact they have created for and influenced the, holy trinity of watchmaking (AP, Patek and Vacheron) over the years is a huge statement and credit due. Its one of those brands that if you know, you know. Its more of a smile and knowing nod than a scream and shout.
"Remember when that was the reason, why we bought watches?"
That hit me hard.
My 1st "branded" watch is a Jaeger LeCoultre master control which I brought to reward myself on my birthday. Love it, the finishing is exquisite. Now I am saving up for the Reverso. Their customer care and retail staffs service are top notch too.
Love my JLC, no one knows I’m wearing $10000 on my wrist unless you’re an enthusiast🍷
Exact reason I want one, although I do wish jlc had more bracelets over just straps
I agree 💯👍
I would know, and I would be proud of you. lol
That’s the point, I was mug on Spain and lost my J L C and lucky my insurance paid out.
Immediately ordered a new one, the same.
Love the watch it’s not in your face look at me
Rolex is so gypsy look at me.
10k does value hold up
"Remember when that was the reason we bought watches."
A tear dripped down my face.
Man, this is a thing of beauty! To me, while Rolex makes great watches, they're really selling in great numbers because of great marketing campaigns aimed towards people looking for a watch that shout's "I've arrived, and I have a great level of disposable income." But for those that don't feel the need to be conspicuous and appreciate high horology, there are brands that are equal and surpass Rolex. It's like being part of a secret society, when you pass someone and recognize their watch conveys quiet luxury!
In my opinion JLC is the most underrated brand by a long way, and a part of me loves that because it stays special by being removed from all the hype. Fantastic message at the end as well! Taking the time to develop personal taste and buy things for that reason is arguably the best part of this hobby and it really has gotten lost along the way.
Its never been underrated, it used to be a great brand, quality control and marketing fucked itself up.
I would add a few more underrated brands ahead of JLC, which, though perhaps not as much as the trinity or some independents, still has a sizeable following. I think Breguet, Blancpain and Girard Perregeaux all make phenomenal timepieces but don’t get half the recognition they deserve…and a lot less than JLC.
@@ingwentsai3929 Assuming you have had personal experiences with the brand, I am sorry you have had poor experiences. If your comment is just an opinion you are entitled to it but I would disagree. I have the current Master Control Date and the updated movement is great! My watch has an accuracy of +1.5 seconds per day since I purchased it March of 2021. JLC does not saturate the market with advertising but for watch enthusiasts they are well known.
@@watchgeek6712 after all its mass production, maybe my experience is just the odd, but it happend, too bad.
@@ingwentsai3929 "Used to be!!?"
BLOODY LOVE THIS! I’ve got such a soft spot for JLC. Look how much you get for your money, a brand with rich heritage, and beautiful watches!
I'd definitely go with either this or a Zenith El Primero above a Rolex Daytona everyday and twice on a Sunday.
The main reason people by a Dayton with the intension to keep it is because it is the watch the most likely other people will know the price tag and difficulty to get one.
If i was offered a Daytona and an ‘El Primero and took the zenith i would have my friend shoot me in the face
@@IsaacFigueroa8387 start by choosing your friends better 😆
@@simonrano8072 they would per my instruction lol
@@simonrano8072 You should try to develop a personal friendship with your AD.
My AD is a personal friend of mine and he will provide me with a Daytona or a GMT with two-year intervalls for the foreseeable future. That means that I can wear my Daytona or a GMT and sell them on for a 100-150% return when the next watch is ready.
I plan on doing this for 10 years and I will simultaniously let the returns from all of my sales lay dormant in a mid-risk index fund during this period as well. I'm 24 now and I expect to have around 130-150k by 34 to spend on a few luxury watches that I'll then keep and pass down to my future kids.
I will essentially have acquired my luxury watch collection for free. So it could be worth the effort if your AD isn't the most unbearable guy around.
I've owned a JLC Master Control and all I can say is.. It's on Patek/Vacheron/AP level in all aspects besides the finish of the movement. At a fraction of the price. It's serious value for those who value true horology and craftsmanship instead of paying 4 x retail price for an overhyped watch that isn't worth it's price and which makes grey market dealers millionaires. With you being their willing sponsor...
Well I am sure it is on a level with AP regular movement finishing. That is because AP for a long time had JLC movements ;)
@@champstation143 It's possible to make your own finish on a movement
@@champstation143 the JLC 920 that became the AP2121 is now made by AP in house. Even Vacheron bought their ebauches from AP later on.
@@champstation143 I would say it could be on a patk/ vc level, but it doesn't have what it takes
that's the problem with jlc. a patek is a patek, it has the patek charm and the signature "stealth rich" language patek is so renowned for
same with vc, vc watches are distinct with their wild and daring, traditionally executed designs. if you love vc you know exactly why you love it
jlc has... nothing. its plain, its perfectly executed canvas. but it has nothing to elevate it above that empty perfection pit its in
A great and yes somewhat underrated watchmaker. But that can be said about Breguet, Blancpain, Girard Perregeaux and many others. JLC’s mistake is having sat on the “watchmaker’s watchmaker” stigma and its Reverso for too long. Yes, they can continue producing quadruple Gyro moonphase perpetual calendar minute repeater toubillon Reversos or maybe try to come up with something bold and new! You can see the old boys struggling in light of the independents. Maybe the new VC Traditionelle Complete open face has a shot but if it does, it’s one of very few bolder new styles from the big boys. AP’s 11.59 hasn’t exactly rocked the boat and PP has not come out with anything new. No wonder that FPJ, Moser, MBF et al are now the watches people want. A JLC Master vs a H. Moser centre seconds at the same price? I know what I would choose.
I’ve owned one of these since mid 2021 when it landed to an AD. It keeps me mesmerized with the detail and its qcraftmanship. I even purchased genuine blue croco strap for it.
You forgot to mention AP and Patek, both have used a JLC 920. The same one Vacheron used
I have owned three Rolex's, but JLC is on another level. Don't own any Rolex currently and never giving up my JLC Master Dive Chrono.
I’m more in the Seiko/Citizen/Casio buying range, but , oh my….. this is a beautiful timepiece. Maybe if I save up for a couple of years, I could and will be a wrist home for that jewel. 🇨🇦👍
Nothing wrong with the Seiko, Citizen or Casios either! I've got a Seiko and a Grand Seiko in my collection, as well a Citizen Eco-Drive Blue Angels edition...and they are all fantastic watches! Currently I'm jonesing for a retro Citizen Automatic Bullhead with leather strap like Brad Pitt wore in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood...but can't seem to find any nice examples atm. There IS the Detroit Mint though, that makes it's own version with is VERY tempting at just $499 USD!
Seiko SKX009 and Casio Oak are 2 beautiful watches I'm looking to buy in to my collection. I have a Seamaster 300m, Rado and Breitling Navitimer (comparativelyvery expensive), yet I can appreciate beauty and quality regardless of price.
I have one and it is hands down my favorite watch that I own. I love it even more than my JLC Duoface. The symmetry is perfect and the way they did the date makes it so they don't take away from the dial with a misplaced date window.
I keep reminding myself that High quality watch makers didn't set out to be challenged by the Rolex brand! Oh, this JLC is everything a Real watch will be and can be! Awesome Video.... the music is spot on!
Was never that fascinated with the Daytona. Too simple. That’s why I wear an Omega Mark 4.5, caliber 1045. It has more useful functions such as day & date and 24 hour dial. The JLC featured in this video could easily find a place on my wrist. Very well thought out in every detail.
There are thousands of watches that are better than a Daytona. Yet, appreciation or at least no major depreciation does play some role in at least my buying decision. I have many watches that I bought purely because I love the aesthetic, the movement or complexity, regardless whether they appreciate or not. At the same time, I believe that a collection should ultimately increase in value when looked at it in its entirety.
@@maengel071 My Omega 1045 was $650.00 when I bought it new in 1982. Today I see it going for $3000.00, or higher, pre-owned. Not as near a mark up as a Daytona, but still considerable. But that doesn’t do me any good as I would never let go of it. Maybe whoever aquires it after my days are done will take advantage of the value increase.
Apart from going into (for me), the unobtainable realms of FP Journe, Philippe Dufour, or George Daniels, JLC is to me what watchmaking is all about. Innovation, quality, beauty, and real value. Absolutely love their timepieces ❤️
I won’t lie I know nothing about watches, I’m fairly new to them and this channel is a big reason for my recent fascination with them, the quality of these videos are second to none. The videography, the close up shots, the camera movement, the clarity is unbelievable and if I’m honest it’s why I’ve found a love for watches. Bring the behind the scenes videos asap.
I don’t know. My wife bought me a lovely Girard Perregaux, simple chrono with a date only, which I’ve never seen on another wrist, from one of the oldest manufactures in Switzerland and it was a nice chunk under $10k. It’s a beautiful face, perfect proportions…and the best bracelet I’ve ever had on my wrist.
Beautiful watch! I’d prefer JLC over Rolex any day of the week.
Who wouldn't, may I ask? They're so much better, lying in the top 3 with Patek and Vacheron
@@andreizamfira 1 million per year.

@@EscapePlan97 whyz that...???
I have recently been getting into watches and there's just something about JLC's that I absolutely love.
they invented and still make the "forever clock" ATMOS.....period. the best.
PP, AP and VC are considered the Holy Trinity of watch making. I disagree. JLC has manufactured movements for all 3 of these makers. That means, these watches are in fact JLC. JLC deserves to be in the same group of watch makers as the above mentioned brands.
I have been a JLC fan for all of my many decades of watch collecting. Being first introduced to the brand when my Father gave me his 31mm gold JLC dress watch. I now own 3 JLCs and the 4th, my 2nd Reverso is on order. I own many other brands, Rolex, Sinn, Grand Seiko, Doxa, Seiko and G-Shock.
My Jaeger LeCoultres are by far my most cherished of all my many watches.
All these videos just make you realise how dominant Rolex has become. So many videos about Rolex options, Rolex killers etc. but try and find a single video about an Omega killer etc
Only one ultimate chronograph, the Speedmaster...for £15k I'd get one of those & a new Triumph 🏍️😉
This JLC is exquisite tho, leagues above the Daytona imho.
Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
Bought a Jlc in 1989 from watches of Switzerland and the salesman said you are buying the best in this shop ...in 2022 he was spot on
I love this model, understated but elegant at the same time. I would be more than happy to have this on my wrist. You could wear this at the end of the supermarket queue in a T shirt at peak times and by the time the person behind you has tried (and probably failed) to pronounce the name on the dial your shopping will be bagged and you'll be on the way home. That is unless the person behind you also appreciates watches in which case a lengthy conversation would ensue that would rather irritate the growing number of people joining the queue.
When the other day you asked about our one and only watch I immediately thought of the Lange Perpetual Chrono, but honestly I think it's a toss up with this one for me.
I like how this channel takes Rolex down a peg from their artificiality inflated high horse. Do they make high quality watches? Yes. Are they worth their new price tags? No. Keep up the good work!
Hublot be like ," hey hey hey, what did i do". Lol
I like the older background music more, not too prominent but you realise its there. The moment the whole video ends just makes me realise that there was a music going on in the background which also ended with it. Unlike this one, which is too loud whenever there are no words coming from the speaker.
What's funny is for the actual price of a Daytona Cosmograph after all the markups, you CAN get a JLC master thin ultra perpetual calendar.
If you know and appreciate watches more than the attention they might garner from other people, JLC, and this model specifically, would be an especially good choice.
This watch is so perfectly balanced that it almost made me forget about the illegal changes in the surround music.
Both this and the daytona are watches I'd keep for life. They are different, but just as great in their own ways.
This model is the best from the 3 that came out that year, but my only issue with it is the strap, it somehow looks cheap on this watch, as if it was an aftermarket strap from ali express. I would have combined it with either a high end alligator strap, or a bracelet to do this watch justice.
What about the Omega Speedmaster moonphase? Could it also warrant a similar fawning over?
The only reason one would choose a Rolex over this watch is because they care what other (non watch enthusiasts) think.
There’s a saying,” those who show buy rolex, those who know buy Omega.” That Omega can be changed to any other watch maker. I’ve said it before, everyone makes a better watch than rolex. Rolex hasn’t and doesn’t manufacture a damn thing. Where are the rolex workshops and factories? Not the ones they purchased but the ones they have always own?🤔
@@ES-tr5no Omega all day long for me too

This is my grail watch. Out of stock everywhere... and now you've gone and told the world my secret. No chance of finding one now! Thanks Watchfinder. 🤦😂
yea they suck big time
Exactly what I thought when I saw this video 😄
Yesterday I bought my first JLC - wow, what a watch. The quality of craftsmanship is fantastic. I would call JLC as a watch for perfectionists.
Great narration 😃❗️
Jaeger LeCoultre is an amazing brand, with an absolutely amazing customer service. The best thing about the Master Control line-up is that it can easily slide under the radar, I don't have to worry about getting mugged or have colleagues wonder why I'm wearing expensive watches to work.
JLC should really replace AP as the holy trinity.
Rolex can't even pronounce those complications....well said hahaha
The last 2 watches I wanted to round out my collection were the black JLC Moonphase and a Batman, the JLC was supposed to be next, but because the market is so nuts on Rolex right now, I felt like I had to go Bat next instead. JLC for next year, though!
What was the one watch Dr. Strange pulled from his case of exceptional time pieces? Why a JLC chronograph. Nuff said.
you just described all the reasons why this is on my bucket list. Just love the classic simple beauty of it.
"A drunken shout like a Hublot" Perfection.
An almost perfect watch to me! Only one defect imho: I’m one of those who would have preferred an annual calendar to a simple triple one
Even under macro. That JLC is flawless. I love JLC watches. My next purchase will be a JLC Master Control. 🇬🇧
Right on! My best watch is JLC Reverso!
What is the old music called?
As much as I agree, trying to get this JLC in Canada is just as hard.
My favourite JLC's are the Reverso and the skelletonized minute repeater watch
You are absolutely right!
“Not a drunken shout like a Hublot…”. Love it.
I'm in love.
Would love to see a comparison of JLC and GS as they might just be my favourite brands right now.
the dial is a little too busy. could do without the two complications on the sides.
The music sounds like what I have to listen to on hold with my bank. Please go back. :)
As much as I love the old tune I felt it had an intense richness to its melody, like a quadruple chocolate brownie to the ears, this new tune just sounds so much more relaxed and I like the lighter air it gives to the video.
Please do a video on the Polaris Perpetual Calendar plssss
I am a watch enthusiast and I so love this channel.
I’m a fan of these videos, but I’m starting to roll my eyes at the number of times they start with “instead of a Rolex…”
The date window gave some of the A Lange n Sohne Datograph feels on it
Your videos are absolute exquisite...
Thank you.
It replaces a Rolex for a doctor who dives to 5 meters.
Love it! Pure class 😍 Though I’d say this piece was a dress-chrono rather than a sport-chrono like the Daytona , so not a direct comparison. Would prefer a stick marker at 12 too for better symmetry but that’s just being fussy! ;-)
I love this more relaxed bgm!
I am happy to have just picked up my first Rolex but there are truly so many absolutely incredible brands out there. I just found out I am having a daughter I was hoping to gift my newest watch to her one day but it’s 41mm. I might have to get something else to give to her one day maybe a JLC Reverso ?
This is a great watch and one of your best written/made videos!
I own a JLC Master Hometime. Each time i watch the movements the magic begins. no envy when i see other people’s Rolex watches.
Drunken shout like the Hublot…..😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The entire Master Control collection is handsome. Love that collection!
Yes, but how much does getting it serviced cost?
I had a Daytona and sold it but out of the 2 I do prefer it over the JLC even if the JLC has a better movement it's just to dressy for my taste
In my opinion I much prefer JLC's design language to Rolex's. Its so much cleaner, crisper, dressed up and clear - though I do prefer numerals (ideally Arabic but Roman are fine too). I'm not really a huge fan of that sport watch look (though the bracelet could also be part of that) hence why I usually give a pass to Omega, Oris etc etc. Though Omega specifically does have some nicer vintage ones that I do ogle from time to time haha.
Side note I hate what Rolex has become so will never buy one. Its status symbol by the masses and Rolex's love of that smacks too much of Apple and just leaves me feeling gross. But where I hate how god aweful apple is with no redeeming attributes, I definately will give Rolex its due for its contributions to watchmaking and its quality - I just hope they don't become like apple - overpriced and crap product.
Great comments. I own a Jaeger Master Ultra Thin in rose gold and in addition to the incredible watchmaking pedigree, a lot of the appeal is that almost no one knows what I'm wearing.
I have same base JLC751 caliber in my 39mm RL Sporting Chrono. It's the most criminally underused movement in watchmaking. It cuts 2.5mm off the thickness of almost every other automatic chronograph.
Well presented... but then again when is it not ? Bravo and Thank You !
What a shot starting at 6:52. So slick.
Finally! Have been waiting for this watch to feature on this channel 👍
JLC designs have become so staid in the last few years I can’t say I really love any of them (with the possible exception of the Polaris Mariners). I wish they’d rediscover their flair for fun sports pieces like the Master Compressor line.
Came here to like the video because it's a JLC :D I don't need to hear the reasons... For me almost any JLC is a better choice to a rather overhyped Rolex.
I bought the spiritual predecessor to this watch, the Master Chronograph Q1538420 pre-owned earlier this year. What sold it to me as my first and only luxury watch, besides the strikingly beautiful, subtle, and congruent design, was how much better it wears than every other chronograph I had any hope of being able to afford. There is nothing else so slender which remotely competes with it, and I really feel once watches of this diameter and span much exceed 13mm they start struggle to remain elegant. I can’t recommend the Master Collection wholeheartedly enough.
A great brand but they need a stand out model to get people talking and something to market. In the past they had watches that opened Aston Martins, they had a watch that Navy Seals wore. Beautiful deep seas and watches that told you when your parking meter was ending. The Polaris is nice but its too big (needs to be 39/40 IMHO) and not special
Zenith, another ground breaking brand of the past, have just come out of the doldrums with the lovely looking Defy range and a glam marketing campaign to go with it. JLC need a looker, a stand out, some thing for the marketeers to get stuck into.
P.S. what a lovely gentle soundtrack
Old background music please!!!
No disrespect to Rolex but JLC is at another level of artistry. This is an incredible watch, Rolex can’t hold a candle to this. My2cents
Yep - people who don’t really know about watches, only understand the marketing, which is the only thing hans Wilsdorf did himself. if I had the money JLC is what I would be wearing on my wrist.
It's a wonderful, wonderful watch. Truly one of the best on sale right now.
Forget both of them, get a Grand Seiko instead.
This will be the 5th and last "Holy Grail" I am trying to add to my collection, but the recent release including the steel bracelet along the calf-leather strap and taking the price up by $3k more will make it that much more difficult to get. Also, I have only seen this watch only one time in China (at their AD in Beijing) out of all ADs I have visited so it is still very difficult to get!
The Breitling Duo Hraph for 7000 pounds is also a shout.
The only issue is JLC knows they have a hit on their hands so they are doing the same bs as Rolex. These are not readily available for purchase. Shame really.
This watch is so amazing, and I almost pulled the trigger to buy it, only to be stopped by a Lange 1 that was being offered to me. Had the Lange 1 not come about, I would have this beauty sitting on my wrist as I type this comment. But then again, if I were to choose again, I will still choose the Lange 1 in a heartbeat. Maybe I should save up for this piece as my next purchase.
First comment? First comment! Wait what happened to the awesome intro/BGM?!?!
