In my space of watches, microbrands have become one of the fastest-growing aspects of the mechanical watch market where small shops can produce nice products that in some cases outperform that of titans of industry. In the past three years, I have handled hundreds of watches from different microbrands out there with many being good, and others, not so much. In this video, we look at a shortlist of some of my favorite microbrands.

With all this Rolex talk and their new releases, hopefully, this can be a nice release of all things Rolex. Thanks for watching everyone!
Yes! It’s great to see something non-Rolex! Thanks!
That’s Great Review that’s my watchmaker JLC ohh man where is Mr.O’Leary he have to check that out.
Anyhow always expect best by JLC
Alan H
It's these kinds of videos that make this a great channel. 💯
I'm sick of all this new Rolex 2020 releases & availability speculation talk, enough already.
hellper198 A real person who knows Horology knows it’s horological secrets JLC👍🏼
Rolex is just name that bring attention and other things I could go on and on overall besides Patek is JLC watchmaker of a watchmaker
Alan H
I must thank you for the much needed break, great review as always.
Cheers!
Every channel is talking about Rolex and Teddy drops a JLC video.. Your the best man!
I think we all needed a break 😂
I agree. I really couldn't take one more Rolex review or discussion.
I smiled when I saw the title of this video. I love counter programming.
Can't agree more.
Randall Janssens so happy about that!! The new Rolex releases are such a snooze fest !!
I’ve never seen a whole collection, released at the same time more beautiful. Thank you for reviewing all 3, great vid. New grail goal found.
I was so waiting for this review! Was thinking about getting a master control since they announced it but now it is even more clear! Thank you!
This is the first time I’ve watched a review from Teddy, and I have to say it is one of the best I’ve seen. I’m a big fan of Tim from Watchbox but do find that occasionally he speaks at such breakneck speed that it can be an effort to keep up.
Teddy produces a more refined and relaxing review and doesn’t get too bogged down with the minutiae, giving instead a considered opinion on the various attributes of the watch and brand, such as value, relevance and aspiration.
I was very pleased to have come across this particular video as I’m seriously considering the chronograph version of the three watches, and to see them compared together was extremely helpful.
Came across your channel recently and loving all the great content Teddy! I saw the Master Control Calendar the other month in the window of a JLC boutique and instantly loved it. Returned to the same boutique yesterday and finally tried it on - what a beauty and even nicer on the wrist! Hopefully it will be my next purchase soon. I really can't get enough of JLC
so great seeing all three. gorgeous videography per usual. I think i'd be very happy with the simple date complication version.
The master control calendar chrono is pretty much perfect in my opinion. I really like the balance of the dial. I was almost positive that a Reverso would be my next watch but this is for sure in the running.
The master geographic is definitely my favorite watch, like ever! Somehow I just fell in love with the design of it and ofcourse the display back. If you have got the chance to do an in dept review of the geographic it would be really amazing! Thanks for making another great video!
Thank you for covering JLC. I am looking into getting a master control calendar... additional info always help 👌
The Calendar Chronograph is stunning! From my perspective, it is the perfect one-watch assemblage that would warrant having no other watch at all. A definite grail for me.
It was my grail. I've owned it for a few months now... I can hardly wear anything else. Do I want new watches? Yes, of course, but this is the one I pick up, or keep on my wrist, always. It kinda killed my watch game. If you have a grail, don't buy it! JK of course.
Lovely collection - stunning watches all 3 but the Calendar is the once for me! Thx Teddy - keep 'em coming!
JLC is KING !! Great review Teddy..Ty !
Good job Teddy as always; leave it up to you to Showcase a 2020 model that nobody is talking about. You're the man be easy brother.
Teddy - great video! I put a deposit down at my AD for the chrono calendar and seeing this video brings me hope it will deliver soon!
This is the content we need! Well done as always, Teddy.
Absolute stunning, all three of them. And it is indeed great to see a great review, of watches that are not carried forward, primarely by marketing hype. Long live JLC !!!
Great video. Just bought the Master Control Calendar...what an amazing timepiece.. Own a few other timepieces and the JLC with the Moonwatch are by far my favs...
Cheers
Master Controls: they're just the most elegant, most subtle, watches on the market. Thanks for giving them some love.
And well crafted!
@@b.vonschnauser207
I bet. I've never held one alas
So true TJS! I have the previous version of the Master Control Date and it is a very versatile watch.
@@watchgeek6712 very jealous... One day I hope...
Great selection and brilliant review
Great video Teddy. Definitely makes me think about my next purchase. Love that chrono!! Will have to go try it on at the boutique.
I love the moon phase complication. It is on my hit list but was not sure which one I really want to spring for. This video has narrowed down my decision. Thanks!
The best watch vloger right now. Awesome Job Teddy!
Was thinking about getting the Master Control Geographic so my heart soared when I saw the title. Then I finished reading.
Think you'd do a review when you can get your hands on one?
Browsing some old vids, but never thinking of seen Kix here on Teddy's channel. I was wondering if you finally get the MC geo at last or not, either ways I kinda hurts knowing that I will never be able to see it on your wrist ever. I miss your casting, hope you're doing well up there. Rip Kix.
Wow, you've really opened my eyes Teddy, beautiful time pieces!!!!
The Chrono Calendar is my choice.
That star field on the moonphase is just bonkers great too
A great watchmaker, a great channel and a much needed break from the Rolex content overdose on all watch platforms. Looking forward to your thoughts on The Grand Seiko T0 Constant Force Concept Tourbillon. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment and support buddy! Perhaps a future video right there. Looks spectacular!
Well with Rolex having just released their 'new' collection, that shouldn't come as a surprise.
Beautiful offerings from one of the all time greatest watchmakers. I can't pick a clear favorite but I would probably lean toward the chrono-calendar like you did. And p.s. Nicely presented!
Looks like a wonderful watch ( Master calendar) considering the purchase. Your review is helpful. Enjoy many of them!
Great video as usual Teddy! All three are beautiful, and the quality is exceptionally high for this price point. Sadly my limit is around 5k hence I’m looking at at 300m to go with my Speedy, but if I was more affluent, I’d absolutely go for a JLC.
Thank you so much for this video..... badly needed!!!!!
I am so satisfied with the master control date. Such a stunning and elegant watch. I love mine. Got it 3 almost 3 months. Best decision so far in my life according to buy luxury 😁😁
Thank you for your excellent review.
Ahhh JLC... one day! Beautiful watches, great commentary and video work.
Great review Teddy. I'm a big JLC fan and love this series. I do love the date but, yes, I agree a slightly smaller say 38mm would have suited the uncomplicated dressy style. My favourite would be The Calendar. I would have the chrono over a Daytona or a Speedy.
Love the Master Date with the brown calf strap. Thinking about it. Thanks for the review.
Still a little over my budget but honestly, these are tremendous values in terms of design and fabrication, and the long warranty insures long term usability. The exhibition cases show off gorgeous movements, too.
LOVE your videos Teddy.
Oh hell yes! Thank you for making this video.
Some of the most stunning watches ever. I have to keep watching over and over again.
Big fan of these JLC! Great video Teddy.
Hey Teddy, great review as always.
Pls also try and talk about the old JLC sector dial master control on a review. It would be great to listen to your perspective about that watch.
Fanastic video! Thanks.
Love the Date model. Great review!
AWESOME videography
Great video.....Waiting for your review of the Master Control Geographic....thought about buying the previous version but wanting the longer power reserve of the new one.
Nice video, Teddy, thank you.
4:42 "I really enjoyed a strap on." Sorry, I'm very immature.
😂
Great review
Hey Teddy, as always a very good video! When I heard JLC wants to release a new master control in 40mm, I bought the master control in 39mm with the massive gold rotor because I think the 39 mm is more suitable for this watch. However, I don't wear it as a dress watch. I still own a Rolex Submariner Date which I wear as a summer watch, a Rolex Explorer 1 39mm, which I wear as a casual all day watch, a Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date (the Coopers watch from Interstellar, which is my first automatic watch and I still proudly wear it). And as a dress watch I go for the JLC Reverso Medium small second. I really appreciate the Master Control Date, it radiates pure understatement, it is more of a mixture of casual and dressy, both work well. I wear the watch with a tshirt, with sneakers, boots, leather jacket, suit shirt, ...It’s more quiet and dressier than the Explorer, but for a real dress watch it is a bit too large for me and I miss the precious metal. It wears more like a 40mm watch, because of the smaller bezel. (I have a wristsize of approx. 16.5 mm). One day I will buy an ALS Saxonia 35mm in rose gold, this will then be my „real“ dress watch, the reverso will still stay in my collection. I can recommend the Master Control 39 mm to anyone looking for a simple and classic gentleman's watch with a lot of style. What you need to know beforehand: if you want to buy the 39mm model, check out the latest models because they already have the new all-gold rotor. And the rotor has a slight hum, which I don't know from my other models but personally that doesn't bother me. I hope I could make the decision easier for some.
Greetings from Germany
Thanx to u i bought master control date . And its ammazing love it
Hey Teddy, thanks for yet another stunning video. I just wanted to know if the watch has issues with legibility, especially in broad daylight. I haven’t had a hands on experience yet but I feel the colour of the dial and the dauphine hands are very similar and that could cause issues with legibility. Do you agree or am I completely wrong? Keep up the great work! Cheers!
Nice video mate.
Going with JLC for my First Luxury Watch love the moon phase one
What a knockout release, these watches are incredible. The chronograph in particular is a thing of beauty
Great video. Just subscribed!!
I own the new Master Control Date, it is such an effortlessly elegant watch. The beautiful leather strap ages very well too, mines has become a milk chocolate color.
Nice vid bro 👌 It's nice to see this vid in the sea of new Rolex releases popping out on my feed. Great watches from JLC 👍
The Calendar Chrono is soo beautiful!! I have an old Master Control Calendar and love the 37mm but seeing this i might need to upgrade haha
Teddy - Hello from Seattle. Excellent content; very nice review. With all of the punters overhyping the Rolex launch release this week; I really enjoyed your review of the JLC trilogy watches you chose. All three timepieces are truly amazing and leave me asking one question. In my quest for haute horology, do I really need more than what JLC has to offer. My guess is that the extra finish I get out of holy trinity timepiece comparative to JLC simply doesn’t justify the extra cash. I truly feel quite at home with JLC. Thank you again from this awesome content. I hope you and your GF are doing well. Stay awesome!!
Ciao,
I would have to go with the Master Calendar. It seems to have the best balance of the 3 in my opinion. I tend to look to my watch a lot for the date so to have it along the periphery of the dial where it will never be covered by any of the other hands or functions really appeals to me.
MUCH nicer than Rolex.
well, it is a higher end brand.
Rolex is only as popular as it is because of marketing. You never see a commercial for Ferrari during halftime on sunday right?
The market doesn't agree
@@stewester Apples/Oranges. The "market" isn't an indicator of quality, only popularity.
Absolutely love your channel! Really appreciate everything you do. I am amazed by the idea of booking a call with you for your website. Amazing amazing take on customer service. Looking at your website and I might need to book a call about a watch or strap in the very near future.
just bought the calendar and love it, must make more of an effort to wear my other watches now.
Great review Teddy, as usual! Quick Question - Does the 40mm Date only version wear larger than its stated size? Because of the light dial, thinner bezel etc...? Thanks.
Love JLC. I would love to purchase one of these someday!
Hey Teddy, great video. I’m very interested in the Chrono, in part because of your review. I’m a little concerned with the noise of the rotor. During your time with these watches, did you notice a loud rotor noise, in particular with the chronograph? Thanks in advance and great review
JLC have perfected the symmetry on these models like only they can, so pretty.
After 5 minutes of a Rolex video, I gave up. Then I found this on my feed, and watched it end to end, twice. Beautiful watches. specially the full Calendar. An instant grail watch.
You should do one in the ultra thin moon!!!
My favorite is the the calendar. Perfect dial. Love seeing someone JLC.
Hello Teddy. Love your stuff. could you review the sector dial master control. Such a pretty piece. Want one, but can't find any anywhere. Love to have your well informed opinion of this watch.
Beautiful pieces for sure!
I'm not so interested in watches, but I really like how the details of the watches are filmed :)
Hello, love your content teddy .
Is there a calendar model but steel bracelet not leather ?
Nothing screams “true watchmaking” than uploading a JLC Video in the midst of the Rolex release circus. Well done Teddy!
Hopefully the date variation presented will be my next watch within the year ❤️
Much appreciated my friend! Haha
What on earth is the obsession with people comparing everything to Rolex. Is it not the case that Rolex make excellent sports watches and JLC make great dress and luxury watches.
@@bighands69 this is far from an obsession from my side. This comment has to do with the timing of the video upload and not with any comparison between the brands in terms of quality or anything of the short.
@@el.priest6518
Maybe I ate too much chocolate over the christmas period.
@@bighands69 😂 in any case, happy new year!
Love these watches. The calendar is the best. I think the chrono is fussy. Great video.
Just bought the date! 😁😁 can't waitttt
Aesthetically beautiful, and incredible engineering. The Master Control Calendar is my personal favorite. I already own a Tag Heuer Carrera chronograph and an Omega SMP 300M chronograph, so I am looking for a more dressy dial with reduced sport influence. The moon phase is such an added bonus - so yeah - the Master Control Calendar hits that sweet spot for me.
agree with you - but always said "if only they did the MCC with a blue face". Well, now they do and I was very happy to collect one in London yesterday.
@@pw8764 same! Enjoying it every time I put it on
@@pw8764 Philip - have you tried yours with stainless steel strap?
@@andyvu8513 - I've ordered one, haven't picked it up from the boutique yet
I’m looking at buying either a tag or an Omega - of the two which one do you like the absolute best???? I just purchased a used JLC and man it’s a stunner what a great watch.
Ive been considering the master control or ultra thin line for some time... This may very well push me to a purchase!
Great review once again, Teddy! Really happy to see these and spend time on some greatness like this versus the "meh" Rolex release that everyone else is covering. These are truly some very nice pieces!
Thanks Marc. Yeah I needed to step away. I am probably not going to make a video on them until later once models are actually available.
@@TeddyBaldassarre I find this so much better, Teddy. JLC actually really did something with this line and this release! They advanced the art of watchmaking at prices that are largely less than Rolex. Rolex actually increased prices and went down in artwork in the latest release - submariners get one dial with different bezels now (easiest part to change is the bezel) and then they moved from the higher end metallic dials on the Oyster to the Swatch-style pastel ones. I like JLC"s direction much better - bring true value and artwork to the customer rather than just milking the brand name.
Agree with you about the size of the Date - this would be perfect at 37mm or so.
Awesome vid! JLC is one of my bucket list brands. I'd go for the full date version and skip the chrono - I have 2 chronographs now that I've never engaged except to play with them. If I do get a JLC, though, it will probably be a Polaris.
Love the chrono!
I’m a huge JLC fan. The calendar chrono is hands down my favorite. But if they would’ve replaced the constant seconds with a 12 hour register it would’ve been even better. It ain’t ugly though!!
Wow - my favorite is the Master Control Date for sure.
A friend said put your name on the rolex waitlist to get the new kermit.
Me: purchased the JLC master calendar! Phack waitlist they can keep them rolex hype.
Looks like you have taste!
Congrats! If someone asked for me my grail watch, the JLC master calendar would probably be it. I confess, I do love the white dial Daytona, but this is on the same level and it is available! Plus, JLC > Rolex in my mind.
Hi Teddy, great channel! Have you tried Titan watches from India? Incredible quality, large spread of designs and great pricing.
Nice work
Hey Teddy. After watching this, I am hesitant between the Master Control Calendar or the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual... Your thoughts?
Hey Teddy. Would you choose the calendar or just the date version over the SBGH269 you reviewed?
I tried on the date function and it was actually super super nice. Now I don't know whether or not to sell my GS!
Should have listed the strap size in both ends if easy-swapping function is mentioned. Nice video!
Stunning. I may do my collection in reverse, get the grails first. Buy these,
a Grand Seiko and an El Primera and I MIGHT be potentially able to get a Sub before I die.
Hey Teddy! Huge fan. I’ve recently gotten into watches and have been binging all of your content. I’ve always liked watches but never really got into the craft behind them. I had 3 watches. A G Shock for tool, an Apple Watch for every day and gold Michal Kors for occasions.
My first watch into this amazing hobby was a Seiko 5 SNKD99K1. I just got my second watch for my birthday. I got a Orient Bambino Small Seconds.
I was looking on your page for your thoughts on the Bambino Small Seconds. I know how you feel about the Bambino but people have mixed feelings on the small seconds model. I would really appreciate your input on the watch.
Huge fan keep up the great work Teddy!
Hi Don, thanks for the comment. I think all the Bambino variations are great. I have never owned the small seconds personally but it is a nice watch. The bambino was my gateway into mechanical watches.
I just purchased a used JLC and it’s one beautiful watch the movement and it’s feel is so classic I’m in love and I did own a Rolex this JLC is just a great watch it looks rich. My next buy will be an Omega speedmaster
Any way you can review the Jaeger Master Control limited edition “sector dial” date. The basic one. Really want your thoughts on this line, Teddy.
Very brave, very smart NOT to jump on the bandwagon of certain popular brands releasing not so impressive watches. You show us every time what really is diffrent and interresting on today’s market.
This indeed is a collection of watches meriting our attention. I personally like the date version very much, they bettered this model with a smaller bezel, up to date movement, they however made it a bit less elegant adding a mm. If they made this one 38-39, it would be a 10/10 watch....
I have bought the previous model in black (new from ad), and it is not keeping up time within specs.... though they advertise 1000 hrs testing, they do not mention the specs it should operate within.... very weird because no reference. I am a bit reluctant sending my watch to them for inspection because of stories you read about not so carefull treatment of your watch, getting it back with scratches etc....
Maybe something for a new topic...? How good is afterservice with the big brands? That to me is the other 50% of the brands quality...
The one thing that drives me nuts about the Chronograph is the running seconds hand. It shouldn't be blue!! They should've made it silver like the date hand, but I guess they valued the symmetry of the dial more than readability. Otherwise a great watch though. I think the MC Date is gonna be my first luxury watch when I graduate next year. Great video!
All three are Great watches! :) Unfortunately, most people will buy rolex subs or gmts in this Price range 😅
Greetings from Germany 👍🏼😄
Thanks for watching Tim!
Unfortunately? For whom?
Absolutely beautiful watches by one of the best watchmakers in the world. Considering the prices of PP, AP and VC and others the price ranges for these seems reasonable. Not that I can afford one just yet.
great video, can you do a video explaining and reviewing the JLC Master Control Sector dial.
This perfect watch is no where to be found. Was it a limited run? Maybe
the classiest watch I've seen under $10,000
