      @@jonumine6250 Well, there are actually two ways of using an interdictor. The first way is by tricking the hyperdrive safety protocols into thinking that it's next to a gravity well. The second way is by using the full power of the interdictor to actually generate a gravity well that impedes all hyperspace travel regardless if any safety features have been disabled. So if they're used correctly (like how our Lord and Savior Grand Admiral Thrawn used them), they can prevent ANY ship from escaping, but the key word there is "correctly".

    • @michaelramon2411
      @michaelramon2411 Před 5 lety +10

      Honestly, the Supremacy is probably so big that it might not be able to project an interdiction field large enough to be useful. I mean, if something is right in front the ship, it can ion cannon or turbolaser (or tractor beam) it into submission easily enough. The Resistance fleet was pretty far away from the ship (being out of range of most of its weapons), so it would have been an enormous gravity well to stop them.

    It's more surprising that this sort of mobile base of operations wasn't more common among factions within Star Wars. Considering the frequency at which planets are blockaded, bombarded, or destroyed outright, it's surprising that every faction capable of producing and fielding large capital ships didn't have something similar.

    • @0hvist
      @0hvist Před 4 lety +35

      the only other faction in the galaxy that had something able to create Capital Ships near-instantaneously was the Infinite Empire of 25,000 years ago: their Star Forge was a stationary platform placed in orbit around their homeworlds' native star of Abo and drawed raw energy and resource materials from extracting the Hydrogen and fusing it together into other useful elements to be used in creating weapons, armor, droids, Starfighters and Capital Ships all in only a matter of minutes. The only realistic downside to this was that the entire facility was created out of Lignan: An extremely-rare, highly-addictive, Dark Side-Imbued metallic alloy that the Rakata basically used in all of their construction; and it was so potent in the Dark Side that the Rakata became addicted to the substance to the point of dependancy on it to use the Force. Because of this when the Lignan began to run out; their own natural Force-Sensitivity was pretty-much non-existant: which was a major problem because ALL of their technology revolved around using the Force to operate, including the Star Forge itself.

      Bizarre that planets are treated as being so weak in Star Wars. A planet with defenses would be many orders of magnitude more powerful than a fleet, and be able to manufacture stuff and reinforce itself constantly.
      After all, a fleet has to carry all its shit around with it. Planetary defenses can be as heavy as you damn well feel like it since they don't need to move at all.

      Why build death stars? Any hyperdrive equipped ship with a droid pilot programmed to ram it, could mow a hole 30+ kilometers deep into it. That kind of defeats the whole purpose of giant ships and death stars. The Supremacy suffered an extreme case of the usual weakness of Empire military tech - one big target syndrome. It happened to both Death Stars, it happened to Star Killer Base, and now it has happened to the Supremacy, but the Empire/First Order never learns. If you can't effectively protect your super capital ship/ultimate weapon, it is just a liability, a massive waste of resources and money just waiting to be blown up, taking a huge crew with valuable skills with it.
    It would have been nice if the threat of the Supremacy had been better established on screen and it had checked out in a more compelling fashion than just being rammed by a cruiser, but the ultimate outcome is the same.

      Yeah, there was no reason to bring it out in the first place. PERIOD. They couldn't move Starkiller base, which makes me wonder since the New Republic should have seen it at some point and known it was a threat, but not only that, it has to drain a start completely to fire it, so once it exhausts the sun(s) nearby, it can't fire anymore, and it's a huge schwerer Gustav at this point. The Supremacy shouldn't have been seen on screen unless it was found by the Resistance. It's not a front-line combat vessel, it's a base in space.

      The Supremacy alone with everything on must take huge amounts of energy. Sure they had redundant systems on it but powering a super laser let alone a gravity well generator would also need massive amount of energy. The Gravity wells field has a big range but that won’t matter if the ships the supremacy is facing is moving way faster. The Energy also has to go to their massive engines, turbo lasers, shields, their factories on the ship, and the lights in general. The reason why they didn’t put a gravity well generator on a star destroyer because the generators takes a bunch of energy to operate. Hope this answers your question.

      @accywacky2699 Před 3 lety +2

      @@thebadness6217 What are you asking? The in-universe reason is that using hyperdrives pops you into an alternate dimension where faster than light travel is possible.. real objects project a kind of gravity-based 'shadow' into this hyper-verse based on how much mass said object has in real space.. hence why there's a danger of hitting planets and traveling through hyperspace requires navigational computations to be safe. However actually hitting something while in hyperspace does no harm to the object projecting the 'shadow' you just hit for the same reason that punching someone's shadow does no harm to the person the shadow is cast from.
      As for why star wars hyperdrives work this way, its because if hyperdrive ramming was possible, no-one would ever build a death star because for the price of a hyperdrive, a droid pilot and a sufficiently massive hunk of junk (be it a ship, scrap metal or an asteroid), you could essentially do what they did in the last Jedi and blow up the death star without any of the fancy 'send a torpedo into the reactor through the tiny exhaust port' tactic. In short, if this kind of hyper-ramming is possible... the prior movies would not possibly have happened the way they did because all the problematic superweapons could have been replaced by or destroyed by a method that is several orders of magnitude cheaper than building those superweapons could ever be. (case in point, one simple light resistance cruiser basically took out the big mega-ship and most of the smaller destroyers of the first order fleet for a ridiculously small fraction of the cost that it took to build those things). If this was something you could just do whenever you wanted all along in Starwars. The story for the entire 9 movie series would have to change significantly to accommodate for this being possible... Or we can just ignore the one film (not counting the 9th one which tried and failed to compensate for the 8th) that screwed everything up beyond repair.

      @alexboehm3919 Před 5 lety +3

      Personally I figured that the projectiles from those large canons had solid cores that enabled the trajectory change, as proton torpedos have solid cores with an energy field around them, and they can turn on a dime. It would be a useful feature to have on a ship, as it would enable canons on top of the ship to fire at objects below the ship, and you would be able to fire over asteroids or debris

      I've thought since the moment we saw Ren looking from the throne room of at the other the severed half. Of how goddamn freaking awesome it would be if they kept the half and a bit that was cut of but remained functioning. Supreme Leader Ren and General Hux seemed pretty safe on the remaining half looking out the veiwport at the smoldering fiery remains of the other half. So the other half is gone. But the rest remains. And what remains is this badass silhouette like a dagger that I think would be absolutely gorgeous in atmosphere. It is truly symbolic of Ren himself. It's broken, scarred and torn apart. It's absolutely beautiful symbolically. It would show the first order prowess and what a force they are. The resistance fucking hyperspace jumped directly into the Supremacy ship. The most devastating manevour that has been done to a ship in Star Wars. It was cut it in half and just the debris from it completely obliterate star destroyers. And yet the supremacy stands, it may not be whole but it is ready to fight.

    • @charleshixon5497

      It really feels like a waste to scuttle such a powerful ship, the First Order could really just secure the space around it and work to get it repaired, cause it still had power after it got rammed and was probably still combat effective

    Hi Everyone!!! Hey I feel like certain people Underestimate Starwars Legends. When it comes to against Warhammer 40K because
    1. 40k fans ignore the fact that Starwars Legends has Star Weirds, and Space Wraiths of which nothing physical can't hurt them. Star weirds are special Energy Spirts. Star Weirds have the ability to use Extreme Lightning of unique kinds and colors of it . The can use Stars , drain Stars, and throw Stars. They can go in and out of Black Holes. Starweirds can Mimic and use terror Scream in the middle of outer Space. They can go into Hyperspace , Spaceships and in things completly silent while mimicing their opponents , while haunting and use terror on their victims and they can do other things.
    (Starwars Legends Star Weirds can take on 40K Necrons.
    The Warhamer 40K Necrons can get hurt physically. Space Wraiths from Starwars Legends can take on the Demons from WarHammer 40K. )
    3. Lets point some things out. Starwars Legends does have a better Governement, Better Space Travel tech, and more Creativity of Space Ship types and Varients- Examples ( Battle Cruisers, Frigates, Corvets, Carriers, Destoyers, Dreadnaughts, Support ships, Super Weapon ships, and other things.) Like the Well awesome creative round donut Spaceship CIS/Separatist Lulkhulk Carriers/Destoyers. The Starwars Legends ships look nicer compared to the Warhammer 40K.
    4. Starwars Legends does have Chaos. 40K people ignore the fact that Starwars does have Chaos in it.
    5. Starwars Legends is balanced, it has the Force of the Lightside and the Dark side in it. Meaning Starwars has ( Good vs Evil) in it . Starwars has War and Peace in it.
    Warhammer 40K is 95% Unbalanced. Warhammer 40K mainly just has War in it.
    6. Starwars Legends has Capitalism in it. Has Friends that can help, and Support each other. The Starwars Universe is more Unified.
    on the other hand Warhammer 40K is Communitist and its Ununified mostly. ( Except the Tau from Warhammer 40K the Tau are more of the only good guys in the 40K Universe. )
    7. Starwars Legends also does have a Super weapon that can destroy another Universe. Like how Warhammer 40K can.
    Now onto some examples Let's take the Matter Universe and anything that is made of Matter. Anything that is Matter can't surive in Other Space from Starwars Legends. Because In Starwars Legends Other Space is White Outer Space is the complete opposite from Regular Black Outer Space.
    Warhammer 40K only has 1 type of Infinate Outer Space. Starwars Legends has 2 types of infinate Outer Spaces it has
    1. Other White Outer Space is
    really Hot and has Cold Stars. Basically has
    ( White Holes, Light Energy , Light Anti Matter, Anti Matter, Anti HoleWorms, Anti Gravity, Anti Particles, Anti Atoms, and other things) Starwars has this!!
    2. And theirs Regular Black Outer Space. Black Outer Space is really Cold with Hot Stars. Regular outer Space basically has
    ( Black Holes, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Matter, WormHoles, Gravity, Particles, Atoms and Other things.) Starwars and Warhammer 40K has this!!!
    Though you can't really contain Anti Matter in a container made of Matter because the Anti Matter and Matter are the opposite from each other they will cancel each other out it will become nothing Emptyness. Only if you put Anti Matter and Matter Together. and even right by each other.
