  • In the Mandalorian we saw what appears to be a new Arquiten-class cruiser variant. This is officially called the Class 546 Cruiser, and is based off of the Arquitens-class light cruiser used by the Republic and Arquitens-class Command Cruiser used by the Empire. See a complete breakdown of this Star Wars capital ship, it's history and behind the scenes facts.

Based on what we've seen he doesnt seem to be busy actually doing Moff things and appears to be 100% mission focused, which means he probably doesn't even have a sector to draw resources from and is using manpower and resources assigned to him directly by Thrawn, who wouldn't give him an ISD unless he actually needed one to do his job (meddling Jedi notwithstanding, even Thrawn has trouble planning around Mother Fucking Skywalker)

If the driver failed to pick the correct gear for a turn, the tank would break down. If the driver failed to rev match to get into 3rd, the gear would strip totally and instantly, and the tank would break down. Replacement of the transmission had to be done behind lines and was a lengthy process, whereas the Sherman just required the front panel to be taken off, and then a new one slotted in.

      Germany (and japan to a lesser extent, though to be fair they had the Yamato) had powerful vehicles, but they ruined their potential by just wasting them, ignoring them, and abusing them. Anything they did with them was a poor choice. Hmmm, kinda sounds like what a galactic Empire would do, as with a "First order." While I love overpowered ships, I also like balanced ones. They should've focused more on making and establishing balanced ones, then leading to overpowering ones to crush already weakened opposition. And this time, actually cover their weaknesses.

      Honestly, I think it's more like the Republic ships had anemic crew numbers, rather than the Empire having bloated crew numbers. A Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is almost exactly the same length as an Arquitens, and it has a crew of 6,012.

      To be fair, the republic was literally trying to have as small a military as they could, even during the clone wars. Like Forgi mentioned, Imperial crews do better match ship size compared to modern numbers. A USN Ticonderoga class cruiser is roughly half the size of an Arquintens and has a crew of 320. More likely however, its the Stormtroper. Think about it. Canonically, the Rebellion would basically pirate ships when they could. And when a boarding shuttle can carry a quarter of your ships compliment, and apear in multiple places at once, you've got problems...

      It's been a long while since I read any of the books so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression a lot of the more mundane aspects of Republic starship were automated to some degree? This was still before the days when we're told most of the galaxy had a general disdain towards droids due to the destruction caused by the Separatist's droid army, so its possible a significant portion of the non-combat crew roles (technicians and mechanics, medical staff, cleaners, cooks, etc) in pre-imperial ships would have been given to droids and onboard computers. By the time of the Empire-onwards, those roles could have been "taken back" by organics, hence the increased crew size. As for where this new crew would be housed, its possible that discarding most of the droid crew along with their required systems would free up a bit of space for some extra crew quarters. Or it could simply be that Republic vessels either had a lot of unused space to begin with, or utilised larger components which have since shrunk in size, creating some extra space.

    First off, I know this is not a regular arquitens, but I want to talk about it. I honestly believe that the arquitens is the best all-round cruiser or frigate in the Star Wars galaxy. It has an all-round arc of heavy turbolasers (especially in the Republic variant). It also has very heavy shielding, and it has a small enough figure to even function as a blockade runner or a trailblazer, busting through enemy fleets and blockades. They were also much cheaper than huge capitol ships such as a Venator, Victory, or ISD. Then, you can add in the fact of starfighters. Yes, I know, none of the Republic's fighters could dock between the frontal prongs, but most of the Republic's starfighters were long-range snubfighters with hyperdrives and shields. Additionally, the Republic's starfighters were arguably the most heavily armed of all factions. Add a squadron of Y-Wings or ARC-170s to an Arquitens or two, and you've got a small task force capable of taking out an entire blockade. I have always thought that the Galactic Republic had the best navy, and I do not think that anyone could change my mind.

    • @moritzk3004
      @moritzk3004 Před 3 lety +17

      The arquitens (during the republic) didn't have a hanger, the Munificent is also a cruiser/frigate, and better in any way than the arquitens (except for firing arcs), there is literally no data to prove your point on the shielding of the arquitens, and being cheap has no influence if you can't keep it alive, you suggest to use it as an active combat ship, which it definitely isn't it is at best a support vessel, and thats also the reason why its cheap

    • @GalacticRepublic_CT-1977
      @GalacticRepublic_CT-1977 Před 3 lety +22

      @@moritzk3004 Technically speaking, the Munificent did not have a hangar either, and it was not better in any way. It was much slower and less maneuverable, and lacked the point-defense systems to deal with starfighter threats. The Arquitens, on the other hand, had powerful Quad-Turbolaser turrets that were simultaneously light enough to function effectively against enemy fighter support. It also had 4 concussion missile launcher tubes, which are a highly effective anti-capital ship weapon that could assist them greatly in taking out a slow, lumbering heavy cruiser such as a Munificent. As for your rebuke over the shielding of this over-qualified vessel, you can see at this link, starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Arquitens-class_light_cruiser , that the official Star Wars Wiki page classifies its shielding as "energy shielding layers", meaning that multiple deflector shields are arranged overlapping atop one another, a technique that creates a much stronger shield. From this, we can conclude that it had some of the strongest shielding of its time, seeing as almost no other vessels of that era had such a capability. My point about it being cheap was that, for the price of one ISD, you could build 38 Arquitens, which are much more of a match for an enemy fleet and/or blockade. As a side note, yes, they could quite easily be kept alive, as they had those layered shields as well as strong, thick armor plating. Couple that with it's powerful and varying array of weaponry, and it truly is an effective front-line combat frigate/light cruiser that could also take on support roles. It is cheap because it was truly just a good deal. It was well worth the price it was given and, in mine and many others' opinions, underpriced and overqualified at the jobs it had. :)

    • @GalacticRepublic_CT-1977
      @GalacticRepublic_CT-1977 Před 3 lety +12

      @@moritzk3004 Additionally, I addressed the fact that the Arquitens lacked a hangar. I noted for you that almost all of the Republic's front-line snubfighters carried hyperdrives capable of jumping with the Arquitens. They could also attach to the port and starboard docking rings if flying alongside is not enough for you. My point is that the Arquitens did not need a hangar, as almost all friendly fighters could just jump through hyperspace alongside it. Even if they couldn't, all of the Arquitens' other amazing features would overcompensate for that, as it was just SUCH a good all-round light cruiser/frigate/blockade runner/escort. :)

First off it's not a GUN because it's not a weapon in it's own right, and it's not on a rail because it's not using Lorentz force across an armature to accelerate something. In other words railguns require direct contact between the rail and the fired object while the "Gundam tunnel of lights" do not, which means that even if they are electromagnetic they ae operating on different principles more like that of a mag-lev train, aka linear induction motors.

      I would honestly want them to keep it the same. It is already a beast of a ship with a perfect paint job: Imperial Gray.
      Additionally, I do not believe that they would take it into their own personal possession. They do not have the number of people to even maintain the entire ship, fly it, operate weapons, operate TIEs, or keep it in working order, let alone all at the same time. Also, it attracts too much attention for a bounty hunter. Your target will almost surely notice you if your ship is 650 meters long. That is why ships like that were often taken in by pirates, as many pirate groups have the manpower to operate one and they do not need stealth. However, I think it would be really cool to see the Mandalorian and his crew commanding it.

      Because the ships in close proximity are in one shot and have canon sizes, bridge shots probably wouldn't work properly because they are not intended to be super in scale and then we have just a small portion of the bridge, we rarely see singular windows from space perspective, and the bridge part isn't 100% of the bridge superstructure. Star Wars sources have never been hugely consistent on scale, so if the 546-Class turns out to technically be a purpose-built variant rather than a refit (in shipbuilding terms, this is often called a batch or flight; warships famous for being subject to this approach include the British C-Class light "scout" cruisers such as HMS Caroline, and the US Arleigh Burke-Class guided missile destroyers), it _may as well be_ an Arquitens in all but name. The fact is, this ship _looks_ like an Arquitens and the scale is _mostly_ right for it to be a live action Arquitens (animated ships often seem smaller than their canon dimensions) so as long as Disney doesn't try to play the "look, it's not a recycled ISD model asset! We've given it another name! It's not the same ship!" crap they did with the... Typhon? Whatever the hell that thing in Rise of Skywalker was... I think we'll be fine.
    It's an Arquitens variant or near enough that it makes no difference. Call it what you like. We all know this ILM miniature is based directly off the Arquitens renders.

    Concerning the Shuttle size, I compared chapter 16 where the girl gang exits to the scene in Return where Palpatine disembarks, both ramps appear to be three meters in width therefore they are both very close in size. I noticed one other confusing aspect, the hangar bay where Luke’s X-Wing lands is smaller than the port/starboard bays where the Dark Troopers entered.
    The only option is in the rear of the wedge hull where it angles back to the rear connector dorsal there seems to be a recess on opposite sides roughly 2-3 decks in height based on window lighting in this recess seen in some shots, can anyone verify this or am I over analyzing.
    Furthermore the trooper who falls off the catwalk goes straight down into space but from the shot where the Dark Troopers enter the hangar, the opening is vertical not horizontal and then after entering they go up into the interior to a catwalk. This to me is extremely confusing as to where this bottom horizontal opening is because I don’t see any from the exterior shots.

    The Arquitens looks like hybrid of Kuat Drive and Corelians ships. Like the back side looks Corellian while the front looks like Kuat.

    • @InventorZahran
      @InventorZahran Před 2 lety +1

      The rear end and engines are literally the same as those of the Consular-class cruiser (made by Corellian Engineering Corporation). Maybe upscaled, but very similar.
      In fact, the Arquitens was probably conceived when some model maker took the engines of a Consular-class, stuck them onto the back of a smaller-scale Star Destroyer prop, and said "there. That's our 'new' ship design".

    11:42 - Unlike other youtubers that just chalk it up to being a different/larger Ship, I'm glad you actually address the GLARING issue of the Lambda class w/wings up vs the TIE width between the pylons as it shoots out.
    Totally inaccurate inconsistencies not surprising when it comes to Star Wars in general as usual.
    From the Executor size varying, along with the oversized Tower (it's NOT the same size as a Imperator/Imperial) Tower, contrary to what everyone always posts, even if the model used in relation to a SD reflects as much, when you can even see the bridge protrusion itself is smaller in relation to the tower vs an imperial II), to the Eclipse and DeathStar II, and even to the enlarged Imp 1 Xyston Class.
    Great video.

      lol. But I do still think there is a thriving hidden Kaminoan society on kamino, that what was lost was they showed to the galaxy. Omega mentioned other spots, and the fact that they show us some spots that nobody knew about I think was to show that there could be a lot more hidden

    This ship is awesome and would be just as useful for the Empire as it is the Imperial Remnant. Especially if the Empire hadn’t been so obsessed with big ships, super weapons, and ruling through fear and intimidation. Not only would they have done better in the Galactic Civil War has they adopted Thrawn’s policies, but they would have intimidated people just as much through the sheer effectiveness of their military.

  • @18videowatcher41
    @18videowatcher41 Před 3 lety +2

    I agree with Thrawn that it's better to have a more mobile and versatile fleet, but I think that with some modification, a battlestation like the Death Star could make for a useful FOB (Forward Operating Base). Fix the thermal exhaust port vulnerability, give it better anti-starfighter defenses and interdiction capabilities, make it faster in both hyperspace and realspace, make it able to process materials and construct new ships and vehicles like the World Devastators and the Supremacy, and give it a less powerful secondary superlaser like that of the Eclipse SSD for destroying enemy capital ships, and targeted elimination planetary surface areas. Please feel free to comment with any other features you think would be useful to a battlestation geared to operating as a mobile base.

    I personally believe that Gideon gutted & dismantlement his Star Destroyers, upgraded/enlarged his Arquitens, and now his Imperial Star Destroyers look more like the Kuat Drive Yards’ version of those Rebel Transports first seen on the silver screen fleeing Hoth & such…
    This could explain why Gideon could’ve had some left over Imperial assets that he was ordered to keep from non-Imperials & such…

    • @thelaststormtrooper4326
      @thelaststormtrooper4326 Před 3 lety

      Because selling assets you can’t use & using the funds to upgrade & buy assets you can is just too easy huh..?
      His ISD is probably guarding HQ, knowing that if the NR hear about a marauding ISD they will investigate.. Just because you have, doesn’t mean you need to cruise around in, when you have capable smaller vessels, that can defeat local resistance & bug out before the NR space cops can call backup.. He’s a warlord, he needs power to stay in control, ISDs are imperial power symbols, just have to be smart with them, they require a lot of assets to use & you can’t afford to lose them.
