All this is live AND they manage to drag those cords on the mic stand and guitar wherever AT THE SAME TIME. I saw this concert (QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL 1981) in late January, remastered digitally for IMAX. Seeing the songs in order, back to back -- the energy sustained throughout, WILD. Today people want/expect more of a production with moving stages and gizmos, crowds, dancers and choirs + the machinery working overtime on voice auto tune, pitch correction --and what you said on backing tracks. Real talent floats to the top, can't miss it when you see it. Agree - LIVE AID 1985 is part of rock history. WATCH the one with the "two police" in the opening to avoid the one that cuts off the last song.
I saw the IMAX of this concert too, it was so good that I went back and saw it again. What I really loved about that movie was that you could see the whole stage a lot of the time so all band members were in view. Also, the film was so crystal clear that I could see the beads of sweat on Freddie's face as they were just forming and any tiny blemish he had. It was so wonderful. It was like being at a live show except this time I was sitting down.

Damn hard to write on some formats. I'm sure he means, Live at the Rainbow. A London venue that was a waystation for Queen on their way up. When they began to pop, they went back as an homage in a sense.
This is one of the greatest live performances ever. You have to know, that Freddie was an untrained singer, he never took singing lessons, but was a born talent, a self made man. He loved Aretha Franklin's early gospel style singing and taught himself the phrasing by listening to her records. This song was written as a tribute to Aretha.
this entire concert was recently ( couple weeks ago) released into theaters on the IMAX screens, it was supposed to be only one weekend but they extended the run for a week, it was fabulous!

I saw Queen live every show in Chicago from 1976 to 1982, and they never disappointed, or half-assed it. They gave 110%, and FM could have ruled the world with his crowd control. Evèry member of Queen made that band the greatest, and they should all be praised for their talent. Roger Taylor is the drummer and main backup vocalist. Brian May is the guitarist, and John Deacon is their wonderful bassist.
Queen is one of my favorite groups. So many different types of music. There are SO many live performances from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s of so many great talented performers. Like others have commented, no auto tune, just a group of talented folks enjoying sharing their love of music. Some other performances to check out is Chicago 25 or 6 to 4 Tanglewood 1971 live and Soul Sacrifice Santana 1969 Woodstock. And, yes, do not pause during any of the guitar solos or drum solos.

That is why Queen fans love their live performances. Freddie wanted it to be an experience for the crowd, which is why they did a lot of audience participation and why each show is different. Freddie made a point to make sure the songs were not the same as the studio version and would always do something different with the performance. You could listen to this song at another concert and it would sound different. We never knew how Freddie would perform each song. If you react to the song Love of My Life at Wembley Stadium and then at their Montreal concert it’s different. Then they sing Love of My Life in Brazil at a concert called Rock in Rio and the 250,000 crowd is singing the majority of the song back to Freddie and what’s amazing is that English is not their first language. They speak Portuguese in Brazil, but they know all the words to Queen songs. They were the first band to do a concert in South America.

I absolutely love this performance, and I do think it’s better than the studio version. But I highly suggest that you react to the official video as well. It really is beautiful. I had this concert on VHS when I was a young child in the 80's. Brian May made that guitar out of a Fireplace with his father. Roger is great, check out Levon Helm from The Band playing drums and singing live, will blow you away.

Studio versions are just as good to listen to, they allow us to appreciate the how much hard work they put into their art when it comes producing to their music, and there was no auto tune back then either, however, when watching the live version of the songs it is a bonus, you get to see how talented they really are on stage, their stage presence is something else, you just can't take your eyes off of them along with commanding the attention of their audience, I would not be surprised how much they inspire those who aspire to be like them one day or want hear mor music from the band. I still love Queen, I'm glad to have had the opportunity to watch them last year in concert, minus Freddie but, it was all worth it nonetheless, we got to see Brian May and Roger Taylor do what they do best! Freddy from Zansibar grew up there, later parents moved to London. Family was very spiritual his family religion, Zoroastiam. His parents were from india further back Iraq. Hence the tryquility soul in his music

Whoever told you to stop talking and just listen gave great advice. While you're commenting on how many cups are on the piano (not all of them were beer) or trying to guess which one is Brian May, you're missing out on the music and so are your subscribers.
We didn't have modern technology therefore, you HAD TO HAVE NATURAL PURE TALENT to make it in the music business. If you didn't sound as good live as in the studio, again, you DIDN'T make it in the music business. That is why they sound so good live. You will find that in most of bands and artists before 1990.

With a few exceptions, I always tell people to skip the studio first and go straight to live. The studios are amazing, but they rarely compare to live.
You need to watch the studio version, too. Freddie never sang a song the same way twice. Roger Taylor, the drummer has a high voice that you hear in the background.
Since you mentioned the beer, you'll get some dumb comments saying Freddie never drinks beer onstage, even though he does. He's on camera drinking beer in Montreal '81 more than once. Unfortunately some Queen fans on YT are in denial or have poor eyesight. There are always 2 large clear plastic cups filled with beer directly in front of Freddie on the piano in their live videos, including at Live Aid in 1985. The small ones are Dixie cups filled with water. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- With show time approaching, towels and drinks for the band’s refreshment on stage would now be strategically placed: water and beer for Fred, beer for Brian and Roger and the Backstage Bar for John, comprising water, beer, soft drinks, wine and whatever spirit or cocktail he fancied at the time: Southern Comfort, vodka or tequila - Peter Hince (aka Ratty), Fred’s and John’s roadie and head of Queen’s crew.
Need to check out other groups- Bon Jovi, Aerosmith,Boston, Van Halen especially Eruption Guitar solo. All these bands and more sound awesome live. Can't forget AC/DC

We didn't have modern technology therefore, you HAD TO HAVE NATURAL PURE TALENT to make it in the music business. If you didn't sound as good live as in the studio, again, you DIDN'T make it in the music business. That is why they sound so good live. You will find that in most of bands and artists before 1990.

With a few exceptions, I always tell people to skip the studio first and go straight to live. The studios are amazing, but they rarely compare to live.

You need to watch the studio version, too. Freddie never sang a song the same way twice. Roger Taylor, the drummer has a high voice that you hear in the background.
Since you mentioned the beer, you'll get some dumb comments saying Freddie never drinks beer onstage, even though he does. He's on camera drinking beer in Montreal '81 more than once. Unfortunately some Queen fans on YT are in denial or have poor eyesight. There are always 2 large clear plastic cups filled with beer directly in front of Freddie on the piano in their live videos, including at Live Aid in 1985. The small ones are Dixie cups filled with water.

A lot of those beverages you see are a honey mixture concoction…. Beer as well but not all of it! I mean you got to tend to that set of pipes!!!
