      @@Rey-gq2il You can get thrown in jail and killed in the middle east for being gay, you can also get arrested for minor offenses for being a woman. In Cuba, you can get 6 months to 2 years for small amounts of weed, 2-4 years for bigger amounts, and 15-30 years for international trafficking. Other countries have different rules, it isn't that hard to look them up to see what you can or can't do. Stop applying American law, culture, and logic to problems of other countries.
      This is especially more important when you're in a country like Russia who is known for disliking America and being a dictatorship. The moment they can get someone to fuck up they throw them in jail and try and make them to fuck up more so they can get them more years and have other countries negotiate for their release (exactly what happened with Brittney). It happened once in North Korea with a US military and is once more happening again with another soldier. It has even happened in the United States.

    The WNBA is exactly like buying a homeless person a house to live in, then after a few years, they complain that their house isn’t as nice as yours.
    If the WNBA lowered the rim, and were actually fun and likeable, the league would do 10x better. Women's professional golf has the tees not as far back as the men. 40 or 50 yard longer shots into greens would make for less dynamic shot making and scoring for the women on tour. It just makes so much more sense to have the rim a bit shorter. Find out what the vertical jump average is for men vs women and adjust. Or you could just experiment with a 9 1/2 rim or 9 1/4, and see the difference it makes. Could be a real positive. No sense in letting pride keep you from exploring opportunities to improve the game and make it more fun for the players and fans.
      Without trying something new, we wouldn't have a shot clock, or a three point line.

Look at their jump shots, most are push shots or flat footed. Look at block shots, most are flat footed. No elevation. I know of house holds with single mothers as well who refuse to go to the games because of that. They rather take them to NBA so they can see men act like men do men things, so their daughters can like things about a player that are in line with their beliefs. I personally don’t have an opinion either way, in terms of the specialization of the WNBA toward being masculine. I only wonder if the game was more adept to their abilities overall, it would be good for fans. Yes there is a group of 3 women who can dunk, but the other 2,600 players can’t. The ball is smaller, make the rim bigger, bring the basket lower, make the court shorter and add a 4 point spot on each wing of the court. The reason that WNBA do not like the idea of dropping the hoop down is because they already get belittled for having a smaller ball, closer three point line and smaller court. Meaning that some people will always be rude and criticise their achievements. At the end of the day, this is a women’s league why should it have to replicate a men’s game to be entertaining. I play other sports that both men and women play like Aussie rules football, where instead of following the mold of the men’s game, the women use different tactics and strategies to play. It doesn’t make the game less entertaining, it’s just a different game. Also women sports is finally catching up to men’s sport in the way that it’s getting more competitive at a young age, which leads to more skilled and athletic players. But in saying that there are still many ways in funding that the girls sport is lacking. I coached a girls team to a grand final win, yet they still receive less funding and resources than the boys team which didn’t place top 6.
    Also I feel like the WNBA should have been the same teams as the men’s, it’s been successful across the world keeping the same names. It means that a supporter of the Warriors for the men’s doesn’t have to buy new gear or find a new loyalty in a team, they can just start supporting the women’s. Idk why they didn’t do that.

    The NBA today looks different from where it started. Rules were changed to bring in a wider audience. Three point line. No more discrimination. Breakaway rims. Better shoes. Shot clock. Owners investment in players and facilities. Pros in Olympics. Foreign players. These things took time and dedication if they wanted the league to survive. Good luck WNBA but I don't believe in it

    @riffbw Před 10 měsíci +82

    You've hit the nail on the head and the rim height discussion just highlights it. It's an attitude problem. The women want to play like the men and they suck at it. Lowering the rim would absolutely help the women be more exciting like the men, but I don't feel like that's the solution. They'll always be worse than the men and college for that reason.
    The women need to embrace what has historically made the women's game great. The disparity between the best and worst player on the floor is much much smaller. They cannot run the iso-game because there aren't enough dominant women to do it and help defense exists. What has made the women's game entertaining for years is how team oriented it has been. Some people say it's a focus on fundamentals, but it's more that it's old school team basketball. Quick passes, drive and dish, help defense, etc. all make for a more entertaining product. While the NBA and NCAAM are pushing for superstars to have highlights, the women can market themselves are pure old school basketball. Nobody is ever going to watch an inferior product by choice, but they will watch a slightly different product because it offers something different.
    The problem is, the individuals want to be superstars and not just team players. They're so focused on status that they've lost sight of sport.
    As a side note, ticket prices need to come down, efforts need to be made to interact with fans, and they need to humble themselves to the fact they are going to have to work and do fan outreach to grow the sport. Soccer, men's and women's, does this. Minor League teams do it. If you don't have the fanbase, you need to go make one.

      This is the answer. Lowering the rim to 9.5 is good.
      But until the wnba realizes that their product isn't the same as the NBA, it won't matter.
      What made the women's tournament in March 2023 so great was because we saw great teams of one play style go up against a great team with a different play style.
      For fans of basketball, it was fascinating and fun to watch.
      We were watching teams play. We weren't watching super stars. Though, that was how they tried to market the final 4. It wasn't about that LSU girl versus that Iowa girl.
      It was about those 2 really good teams and how they matched up against the rest of of the feild.
      I've tried to watch the wnba. It's unwatchable. It's not a team game. It's trash.
