  • In the last decade, 3D printing has developed significantly and can now be used to do many important things in different industries, with the most important being manufacturing, medicine, architecture, custom art, and design.
    Blender has supported 3D printing modeling and file formats since 2002. However, When Blender version 2.67 was released 3D printing became even more accessible and powerful in Blender than ever before, thanks to the 3D Printing Toolbox and real-time Mesh Analysis features.

    I dunno if there's an updated video on this yet, but blender has added yet more stuff for this. It's now possible to use it for printing the type of stuff you'd usually use CAD for.

      i do too, i find blender models are less useful for 90% of parts i print, especially due to mesh issues being a huge deal when printing parts, as it is very easy to create 0 thickness meshes in it

      Even assuming you get the meassurements right (which won't be easy) for them to be compatible with Lego bricks (e.g hair you can put on minifigures) you'll need a VERY fine printer. Which usually are pretty expensive.
      You need them as smooth as possible and to use ABS like Lego does as well. That way you can use Acetone vapor to smooth them more. Sanding will hardly work.
      Sooo it's possible but not easy at all.

    no it's useless for 3d printing (like all other 3d modeling software)
    it's great for 3d modeling.
    it can't generate Gcode that the printer can understand, a 3d printer would have no clue what to do with anything any 3d modeling software spits out
    pretty much any modeling software that can export an OBJ (so all of them) will do if you understand how to build what you wanna build, it's just another tool in the pipeline to get to a finished print.
    the only part of that pipeline I would call "3d printing software" is the slicer that generates the Gcode .. so Cura, Slic3r, prusa slicer etc.
    for real world practical models you would be better with something like Fusion 360 (also free) or solidworks and in my experience for making organic models that will translate well into 3d prints nothing can touch Zbrush

    • @sould3mon271
      @sould3mon271 Před 4 měsíci

      you probably still should, also take a look into preferences > addons type in 3d- in search and 3d- print toolbox should pop up install/activate it and with that you can check the mesh and make it manifold be sure to save first and save to a new file before doing boolean and this toolbox opperations as it isn't perfect and can mess up what you are doing .
      some slicers might be smart enough to fix some problems in models but it's better to do it as correctly as possible before slicing and double check the slicing result .
      not doing so might result in missing layers, disconnected parts in the sliced result and will result in print failure so spent the extra time instead of coming to a failed print after 15 hours.
