Thank you Luke for allowing me to do this colaboration with you. I hope everyone enjoys watching the video! Please check out Luke's CZcams Channel: / lukomatico
Hi Bill, great collaboration with Luke. You captured these galaxies with so much detail.Looking forward to more content on your channel and collaboration targets with Luke. Also a big thank you for your work on the colour masking tools for PixInsight .Clear skies!
Hi Bill great collaboration with Luke really great work from both of you , looking forward to seeing more of your work, thanks again for sharing your work
EXCELLENT VIDEO Bill (and Luke). I enjoyed every second of it. I thoroughly enjoy this style of Astro-videos. M82 just fascinates me with that red burst perpendicular to the core. Thanks for pointing out the additional distant galaxies. M82 is on my target list but I now also plan to use the wider field of view with my f/5.6 setup. I have similar rigs as yours ... Celestron 11" EdgeHD and the Orion EON 130mm Triplet. However, you have me drooling over that EQ8-Rh mount. Make more videos Bill ... I just subscribed Patrick Prokop ... Savannah, GA
Thank you Pat, that means a lot and look forward to seeing your version. I just subscribed to your channel too 😎. Luke did an amazing job and now I am considering getting a Newtonian based on what I saw from his data. Man this hobby is expensive, lol
That's one great start to a YT channel Bill, and the channel name made me smile too :d Big Congrats on your colab with Luke, he's a top bloke and your combined image was awesome! p.s Your garden is pristine, puts mine to shame ;)
Fancy seeing you here Chris! :-D Thank you for the kind words bud, and I totally agree, Bill's yard puts mine to shame too so at least you're not alone haha!
Hi Bill. Nice collaboration with Luke. Loving that Takahashi on the EQ8 RH PRO (beautiful set up). Look forward to seeing more content from you. Clear Skies!
Excellent work Bill (and Luke of course) , love the detail on the Cigar, very hard to get that. What a scope you have there Bill, bet you're loving that Takahashi, incredibly sharp stars no doubt!
It is, you know what's funny, I owned it for about a year and never used it because I was imaging with the edge11 on some other projects. Shooting these targets in this video was my first light. The sharpness is unreal. Last night I started shooting the monkey head nebula and also m51 with it, the detail is crazy even binning at 1.
Hey Bill, new UK sub here. Love your chilled, almost fatalistic attitude to clouds. You could be British :) I found your short timelapses of your Nina / Stellarium workflow *really* interesting. I use the ASIAIR and have found myself getting drawn and drawn towards NINA. If you ever decide to do a 'deep dive' in to your imaging processes, how you run NINA and that super in depth Tilt check... I'd love it!
Wow what an image! who needs the Hubble at this point? I have a Hubble's astro calendar and M82 is the first picture of this year, I can't believe how close it is to what I'm seeing on your image. Just incredible!
Gday Bill - You guys came out with a great result on this. Looks like you have it rough with the weather there, nothing worse than getting everything setup and the clouds roll in. Lovely looking final image you came out with, look forward to seeing your upcoming videos. Cheers Ollie.
Great collaboration Bill, Luke is an awesome astrophotographer and is always willing to help, he’s helped me out a few times👍 I love both your mounts, the EQ8 is outstanding, wish I could have one! Great scopes you’ve got also. Shame you live in a bortle 8, light pollution is a pain, guess I’m lucky where I live in the Uk, bortle 4! Good luck on your journey just starting out, I’ve subscribed to you, I’ve also just recently started😀 The final image was awesome, well done, thats a lot of data and came out really well👍. Clear skies
Awesome collaboration Luke and Bill. Enjoyed the "global" feel to the video. You have an impressive setup there Bill - look forward to seeing more images and videos in the future. Subcribed :)
Great collab Bill. Love the channel name. You guys put in the time on this target and it definatley shows. Looking forward to more content. Subbed... Clear skies.
Thank you for a great video! I do have to say that it sounds a bit funny to hear freezing point described as brutally cold 😅 I'm imaging at the arctic circle and if it's above -20°C I consider myself really lucky 😊
Great collaboration. I'm going to have to do that with some of my friends (not for CZcams but just to gather more time). I have a question about the mount. Does having the encoder on RA help with guiding? I understand they (encoders) help when you're not guiding but do they play into the mount movement even when you're guiding?
Yes, the encoders on the eq8 work different than other mounts that have low resolution encoders. The eq8 mount is a closed loop motion control system which mean the motor only moves when commanded to based on encoder position, not like the traditional open loop stepper motor design which moves per step. The advantage of this design is that if you put the encoder on the out side of all the gearing, the motor will move though all the backlash before it moves to the next encoder position, therefore you have little to no backlash. Trying to remember but I believe the encoder resolution is something like 0.2 sec, so if you have any backlash, it will be less than this amount. The only incremental encoder I know of that has this high of resolution is the one they use in this mount, the Renishaw encoder (until the Chinese copy the design which I believe they have already). This encoder itself costs over 1k usd so very expensive. If you have perfect polar alignment, you should be able to image unguided, in theory.
@@billblanshan3021 Thanks for the info. I'm basically thinking ahead to my next mount. If your using the mount strictly for AP and have the option of encoders, would you spend the extra money? Some of the larger mounts offer both and of course there is a premium for this encoders.
@@psuaero100 what mounts are you considering getting? Honestly, if the mount doesn't have Renishaw encoders, then I wouldn't get it, but that's just my opinion. However, Luke's mount doesn't have encoders and he's getting really good guiding, 0.3- to 0.4 RMS. My background is robotics which was why I decided to go with the EQ 8-RH because of the encoder they use and the design in which they are using it. There are other mount s out there that use absolute encoders but then gear off of them to increase the resolution, but as soon as you gear off, you then create backlash again but this time on the encoder counts. The funny thing is, guiding is really going to be based on really good polar alignment, target location in the sky, balance, using an OAG, focal length, good pec, and seeing conditions. If you watch this video again and you notice in the background, I have a edge 11 mounted on my EQ 6 which I hyper tune myself and that night I was getting 0.4 RMS, and that's Texas skies. Last night my eq8 was getting 0.2-0.3 RMS but the night before I was getting 0.7 RMS because seeing was so crappy. But as for encoder, I just know how they work and I really like the design of the EQ8-RH
@@billblanshan3021 No real contenders yet. I'm saving all my money right now for a mono camera and filters. EQ8 might be a bit big for my needs. I'd probably be in the CEM70 class. That mount happens to have both options.
Thank you for working with me on this Bill! It turned out great and I hope you had as much fun as I did mate! 🙂
It was an awesome experience, thank you for that. It's opened a lot of new doors for me, now I just need to figure out which door to walk threw 🤔

Thank you Chris!

@@billblanshan3021 Yay for Moms. Properly laughed out loud at this :-)
Great video collaboration Bill and Luke! As I commented on Luke's channel, it's great to see more astro CZcamsrs doing collaborations!
Thanks Joe!!!! How's the new mount working out for ya?
Greetings from AU🇦🇺. Found my way here through this collab with Luke. Have subbed and look forward to your content. Good luck with your channel ✌️.
Hey Bill! This is a great video you guys did! Very well done and fantastic production quality. Looking forward to seeing more.
