    I don't usually rag on other companies, but this is an exception and there's no excuse for it. I'd make it known in the write-up that the previous company bypassed the safety.

    That unit has been hacked in every bad way, lucky the building didnt burn down. Total hackery.

    Good lord....safeties is 100% non negotiable for bypassing....i dont care how cold it is...never gonna happen....that is a disaster waiting to happen.....nice job Ryan

    I think it might be necessary to have the owner pull the service history on this unit. The company that performed this “work” needs to be held accountable for it. Some city inspector’s office should be notified if appropriate. That company should be fined and told that further violations will cause them to lose their business license.
    This is really a dangerous situation.

    Who in the heck would bypass a safety. Then walk away and say "it will be alright", No excuse

  • @MrJujubean
    @MrJujubean Před 6 měsíci +1

    Wow! I do not know how anyone could think it was a good idea to bypass a limit or any other safety.

    That’s crazy, I had one job once we came behind the people that installed it, the one 3T RTU had a main limit bypass with a lil popper 😅. One other 10T had a hole in the condenser from a screw when they put on the hail guards. And they left the manual on top of the burners so when it fired it burned all of the wiring in that compartment

  • @timothymcmahon1507

    That’s just the new wireless limit switch

  • @topher8634
    @topher8634 Před 6 měsíci +5

    Might want to see if a wiring harness is available. If not, I'd say they need to replace it. I mean blower motor, possible heat exchanger failure, wiring damage and limits, that's half the unit.

  • @zack9912000

    We always drill holes on the outside of the economizer, with no reason to run the wires like that. Much less bypassing limits

    Great job Ryan. You should never bypass any safety device unless for testing purposes. Leaving it bypassed leaves you with a whole hell of hurt. Safety is paramount and if it works is secondary.

    Hmmm... cooked motor, possible comprmised exchanger, comprimised wiring, comprimised condensate pan...... The entire thing baked itself..
    If that was my unit it would be getting replaced and i would be going after whoever jumped the limit for replacement value plus.

  • @jani140
    @jani140 Před 6 měsíci +2

    Please change all those wires. If they got that hot and not yet short, the plastics get very brital and isolation on "still good" wires will flake off soon.

  • @qomco

  • @Paul-IE-Repairs
    @Paul-IE-Repairs Před 6 měsíci +2

    i would replace the wire, that insulation is compromised, the way it was creaking and cracking it exceeded its rating, 90C is 194F and a new insulation pad.

    Great Video. Thank you for sharing. May I ask, what is the same and different between roll out switch and high limit switch ?

    • @mitchell8204
      @mitchell8204 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Roll out switches are typically manual reset so they have a little button you need to push if it trips otherwise it will not close again by itself. High limits on the other hand tend to be automatic reset because they can be tripped by dirty filters, low airflow, etc but they will automatically reset and the unit will light back up. They should not trip during normal operation with clean filters, so if a unit is cycling on limit (running until it hits high limit then shuts off then lights up when limit recloses) there is usually a problem to fix somewhere.

    What’s your opinion on the plastic pulleys on VFDs? Have been bypassing vfds due to unavailability and after bypassing we change the pulleys to steel since bypassing gives to much torque on startup and blows them apart. All this nonsense just to meet efficiency standards. Carrier going downhill

    • @HughesManHVAC

    • @BryanGullickson
      @BryanGullickson Před 6 měsíci +1

      well if the disabled safety is any indication i'd have to assume either bypassed or not equipped also that fire department needs to go back to training as it took them 3 times of coming out to shut the unit down
