The reason Chile’s army looks so much like Germany is because they originally had French officers training their soldiers and when the Franco-Prussian War became nothing more than Prussia and co drop kicking a child, the Chileans kicked out the French officers and invited Prussian ones. Thus, the German uniforms in Chile

Chile abandoned its claim during the war against Peru and Bolivia to dissuade from a 3vs1 conflict and secure the win, making eastern Patagonia effectively Argentinian. Abandoning a claim is not the same as losing territory, but I see your point. In the end both Chile and Argentina won. Chile got the north, strategically rich in minerals, Argentina secured the Patagonia without firing a bullet. Peru and particularly Bolivia are still crying about their loss today.

    Brazil does that.
I recently learned about how brazil delayed the abolition of slavery as much as possible (With laws like "A Lei Áurea", or "A Lei do Ventre Livre"), how the government destroyed poor peoples' homes in order to build new, european like buildings, and let the poor be homeless ("O Embelezamento". That's why Rio de Janeiro has favelas), about the period full of corrution that was "A Primeira República", also called "A República Velha" ("A Politica do Café com leite", "O Clientelismo", "O Coronelismo" and "O Voto de Cabresto" are examples of what happened in that era), how it took a revolution for Brazil to give the workers rights and make it illegal for children to work ("Revolução Trabalhista de 1930") ; and i'm also starting to learn about "A Era Vargas", when one of the first dictators (out of 6 or 8, i think) took power; and after that i think i'll be taught about the military dictatorship that came after the Vargas era. And the dictatorships that came after those.
Brazil's history is pretty fucked up.

Actually jenesaries (sorry for gramar) were not like usual slaves as you might imagine, they were paid more than regular ottoman army, they also had higher ranks in the military. The main reason for this was that regular ottoman army was more loyal to their local tribe leaders rather than sultan, also in war, Sultan was protected by jenesaries and not by Ottoman army. Jenesaries were often saved for the last attack like in conquest of Constantinople when Sultan mehmed 2 ordered his last resort jenesaries to attack the city. So yeah, they were not like american slaves
