Fun fact about the Samurai, they were bowmen before swordsman thus speeding their conversion to firearms. The katana you see so often was a sign of status more than anything, being a large reason why they were illegalized in the Meiji era.
Intrestingly Katanas only became populare at the end of the Sengoku jidai due to the expansion of the samurai class and more poor samurai who couldent affored war horses enterd service. Before this the prefeard sword where the tachi/odachi. A bit before the Edo era 4 casts where formed and only samurai where allowed 2 blades most samurai came from the new samurais of the sengoku jidai so the katana became a staple of samurai life.
Also most samurai at this time if they ever ended up figthing would do so with the swords as warfare was preaty much over in japan untill 1853. Its wierd we think samurai where fixated on swords when thire prefeard weapon was always the bow and they where skilled horse archers.
facts
@@Brunch65 no printer
They actually were never really swordsmen. In melee combat, most would have a spear or polearm as a primary melee weapon.
So they are just like Knights then, where Swords and katanas are romanticised while Spears and Bows are the true weapons of war.

Somehow as a Mexican I would say Maximilian von Hasburg was a better emperor than the first one who was a general during the independence war. Also thanks to his wife we made a new dessert called "Carlota" which is similar to lemon pie (if you're a U.S. citizen)
It sucks that they couldn't just talk with him first
He really meant well
His wife was absolutely devastated the rest of her life
Yo, I've had Carlota's they're absolutely amazing!
It's sad, I wish the Mexican government of the time would've heard Maximilian out instead of just shooting the dude.
Of course he's better. He has the coolest motherfuckering name of any politician of his time.
IIRC although he had genuine interest to help Mexico and its people, he wanted to rule as authoritarian ruler like his family.
However, Benito Juárez liked him on personal level and kept the napoleonic code that he introduced.

Yeh that film was great a bit long so they cut it a bit and added some things to it to make it into a tv series. Giving you 2 options to watch the film.
9:30 to be fair to Virgil he was commissioned to write his books by the roman Emperor at the time who was supposed to be represented by Aeneas, and Virgil REALLY did not like this guy so he didn't want to give him a good personality.
But he couldn't give him a crappy personality either because that would be like insulting the emperor and that rarely ends well.
Considering that emperor was Augustus, that's a fairly astute reaction on Virgil's part lol
The Serbian kid had a sad story. He watched his family die and was the onlye one left he wanted to fight in the war. At first the Serbian army didn't want to let him fight but he made his way to the battel feild and tryed to pick up a gun. To stop him from killing himself the Serbian army took him in where he had a big brother type thing going on with another soldier how gave his life to save the kid.
The story is long and sad but it was a part of the Film King Petar about king Peter the first of Serbia. The movie also touches on King Petars opinion on becoming King since he didn't want that and felt guilt over the way he got the throne.
So it’s Serbian version of Vinland Saga?

Nope, the Ottomans were relatively unique in their battle royal approach to inheritance.
Europe had extremely complicated inheritance laws that were central to legitimizing rulership and only powerful factions could make a dent to support a claimant who is not first in line in most cases.
The Ottomans basically let the princes openly assassinate each other, and a new ruler would execute or murder any surviving brothers he deemed any threat to his rule.
China operated on a kind of appointment system where the Emperor picked the heir apparent among his sons, but ultimately kept the rest for spares, which left the door open for constant intrigue.
Last prince of ottoman in 2015 : "i was lucky to be the last one, if not, i would be strangled with bow line by my eldest brother, and then got a faboulous funeral. Which not that great of compensation.."

Well at least the state sanctioned fratricide resulted in only one succession crisis civil war in the entire existence of the empire
4:51 We always blame Belgium for the congo, even though it was Lepold's personal property, and that many Belgians hated him.
I’m sure Belgium assumed responsibility in 1908 and continued regardless but to a lesser degree.
I believe Leopold himself didnt even know what was happening in the Congo, all he knew was he was getting a huge amount of resources and money from it. He only found out when alot if reports came in from (mostly) journalists who came to the Congo to write about it and ended up seeing the truth and what was actually happening.

And it's a evidence of darvinism, not the bad impact caused by the industrial revolution though, because there were darker moths existing way before the industrial revolution.

I think in ancient times there was no slavery in India...and also Hindus will never use slaves to build a temple.
Slaves weren't used, it was paid labour. But I do think it still must have been an enormous task to construct a stone carved temple of such quality and there's no way the king was paying them enough. A king is a king, Hindu or not.
You could surely say they weren't well paid, but they also weren't forced. Known artisans of the period were hired to do the carvings and this is recorded in history. So definitely not slaves
