I don't understand why people shiny hunt pokemon, so a bit ago I asked on my Twitter, "Why do you shiny hunt?" And in this video, I go over some of the MANY replies, and sorta just talk about em. This is sort of an experimental 'poketuber vlog' style video. Let me know what you think!

Hi! It's me, Bossu Finn, thanks for mentioning me & that druddigon hunt in your video :) I hope you can see & read this comment.
Yes, that Druddigon took quite awhile, I just ended an 8 month long hunt actually. Despite the hours of shiny hunting, it's always worth the prize. The shiny.
Compare the shiny to a trophy, it's something you work hard for, something you put in effort for, and shinies are a rare prize that gives hunters thrill & adrenaline.
With shinies, it's a luck based thing. While Druddigon took me 64 hours, I hunted for Duraludon & got that in only ONE. With shiny hunting, it can happen at any moment. It's a surprise, a suprise to when the prize comes.
Of course shiny hunting isn't for everyone. It can take a long time, but when that quick hunt comes, it feels like you won the world, you beat the shiny odds. Even with longer hunts like this Druddigon, when the shiny appeared for me, you can see in the video how excited I was, how happy it made me. Those hours of streaming were worth it, because for me, it's journey & stories some shinies give me. This druddigon will be a treasured shiny because of those 64 hours of effort.
I'm sure there's so much more I can say to help you understand further why people shiny hunt. Not everyone may have the same reasons I do, but I'm a lot of hunters can relate. There's so much more to shiny hunting than just finding a different coloured pokemon.
Thanks for reading this & thanks again for the mention

    • @DuchessAfterDark
      @DuchessAfterDark Před 3 lety +1

@@slevinchannel7589 generally people shiny hunt pokemon that they really like, or whose shiny they really like. I prefer encounter hunts in the old games because they're random as to which pokemon you'll run into, or masuda. Even though there are projected odds per generation as to when you *should* get the shiny, there's no absolute guarantee. Especially while encounter hunting, because your shiny could still run away. Masuda definitely takes the longest of the methods, and encounters won't always guarantee you the spawn you want (unless you're hunting in Let's Go/Sword and Shield) but the resulting shiny is an incredible feeling. I know when my very first shiny appeared I was shaking with excitement. It was an egg hatch, so guaranteed to keep it, but it still took me 1570 hatches. I went at it from day 1 of Sw/Sh release until Dec 12, almost a full month. Some people don't see the point of it, and that's fine. It's there for the people like me who are a little crazy and love seeing our color variated pokemon for some reason or another.
There's also extra challenges you can add on. Does the pokemon have to have perfect IVs? A specific gender so it can be evolved? Hidden Ability? A specific nature? All of these things make the hunt a bit harder, but also that much sweeter once the perfect shiny pokemon finally appears regardless of the hunting method used.
The very first person mentioned in the video, Bossu Finn, is a fantastic shiny hunter, and we've got a lovely little community of friendly shiny hunters. I usually find that t's easier for me to keep my brain focused on shiny hunting if I'm hanging out in one of my friend's shiny hunting streams, because we're all working towards a common goal. If the 2 little dudes you're asking for are into streams, I'd also highly recommend these channels: DragonDance05, RainbowLycanroc, The Shiny Shack, NotSoKawai, Skul, Puffin, That Bald Gamer, aDrive, Dallas McDermont, HDVee, ColdestKnight, LittleShellder, myself (little self plug lol) and many many more. There's a lot of us and we're all really friendly and happy to see new people in the Shiny Hunting community. Most channels are family friendly as well so will be safe for younger kids to watch :)

When I was in elementary school on my first playthrough of emerald, my first pokemon game the endgame latios just happened to be shiny and I had no idea what that meant it just sparkled and I threw my masterball at it cuz i could tell it was special. I showed my grandma who I've lived all my life with and raised me. She didn't get it but she was happy I was excited. Eventually I learned what it meant as I got to my teens, but my grandmother's dementia started happening and in highschool I got sun and moon after not playing pokemon since platinum cause I saw the sos chaining thing and I wanted to share new shinies with her even if she really didn't get it this time. She'd just get excited cause I was excited even if she struggled to remember my name at times. The last shiny I showed her was a shiny uxie that I caught while playing next to her as she was bed ridden in the dynamax dungeon raid thing less than a week ago. She passed away yesterday. Ahem,... and let me tell you it was not fun at all, BUT I got a sense of Satisfaction and Achievement after I got that Shiny Zygarde.

I love the grind for shinies and I've found that out of all the methods, the most fun for me are masuda and encounter method, while Bossu tends to be a soft reset kind of person (who you should have linked, tbh. Here's her shiny reaction to the dragon boi: czcams.com/video/8v2L_B8lzNA/video.html). She's an incredible, funny, friendly content creator and I'm proud to count her among my friends.
My very first shiny hunt, EVER, was 1570 hatches via masuda method, full odds. It was for a shiny galarian ponyta. After that I was hooked. Not only because the pokemon is a different color, but because I can challenge myself to breed a perfect IV shiny, figure out the exact odds for each hunt based on the method/location I use, and being one step closer to a full living shiny dex. I've beat the odds (lowest hunt 73 masuda hatches for litten/99 encounters for yamper) and I've gone wayyy over odds (currently unknown number of masuda hatches for Salandit, sitting at 1,800 right now, which is about 3.5x the odds, will hit 4x odds at 2,048) and I'm obsessed regardless of the count. In a way, a longer hunt just makes the resulting shiny all the sweeter, and usually you have better stories relating to the longer hunts as well. In less than a year of shiny hunting I've collected about a quarter of the shiny sword/shield base dex, and I'm still working for it. Each person has their own reasons for shiny hunting, and if you're not into it that's fine. It brings a lot of people joy and that in itself is worth it.

Y'know, this video really made me think about WHY I shiny hunt. For me, there's quite a few reasons:
Plain and simple, there's just some really great shiny Pokémon. Pokémon I already really like (Charizard, Pheromosa, Blacephalon, Steelix, Hawlucha, Gardevoir, Sandshrew, etc.) just have such great palette swaps in their shiny forms.
The thrill you get when you finally hatch one or find one in the wild is amazing. I've soft reset for days, weeks, even months for some shinies, and then I've hatched some in two Masuda Method eggs. It's always a surprise no matter how much time it takes to find it.
Yes, it can be tedious, time consuming and at times boring, but man...when you get that shiny you've wanted for years and get to battle with it and see it in Pokémon-Amie or Camp or just in the PokéDex, and just knowing you earned it and it's yours...it's such an awesome feeling of accomplishment and awe.
I still remember finding my first shinies in FireRed years ago, before I ever knew what shinies were. They were a Doduo and an Exeggcute in the Safari Zone, and (like the foolish child I was) I ran from them both not knowing what I had found. Fast forward to my first CAUGHT shiny in the same game, a shiny Unown Z in the Tanoby Ruins, and it's been a journey ever since. Each one's special to me, each one has a story behind it, and they're some of my greatest accomplishments in my years of video gaming. 😊
(Also shiny Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist are the best shinies of all time, change my mind.)

I also think of it similar to a rollercoaster, spending hours in line for a 30 second adrenaline rush, except it’s 60 hours and you can keep the reward and satisfaction of it without danger of death or a bad rollercoaster photo.

God I have weird shiny stories, and most of them are me trying to complete the dex or having fun with friends
Pokémon Sun, looking for a dratini, found shiny boldore
Dmax adventures with friends, random shiny Cresselia
I think those are the only shiny Pokémon I’ve gotten without hunting, but either way, it’s fun, the excitement is amazing, and it’s always nice to show off

Imagine accidentally running away from a shiny Pokemon that you've been shiny hunting for 69 hours so then it takes another 420 hours to shiny hunt, you eventually find it then you get it down to a sliver of health then it uses a recoil move and then you take another 666 hours and realize that you forgot to get poke balls because you sold them all

@Dick Balls • 30 years ago Not everybody hacks the game. I don't do it, and plenty of other shiny hunters I know don't do it. Shinies don't feel earned at that point. The satisfaction of having a shiny comes from knowing the amount of luck it took to obtain it. Hacking it in absolutely ruins that, and it devalues other people's effort to acquire them by casting doubt on the legitimacy of their shinies. There's no point to owning a shiny if you just hack it in.

Yeah, gambling addiction, that sounds right.
Little fun fact : loving gambling is a natural thing. In fact, even animals experience it. In labs, scientists noticed rats and pigeons were way more excited about tricks if they didn't know wether they would get the treat on the spot or not.

i know i’m a little late, but i hunt for many reasons. i like the thrill of finding shinies. i think the journey of either finding the shiny really quickly or it taking a long time is awesome. it’s a great way to interact with other people and meeting new hunters. it’s a great thing to do to wind down at the end of the day and a great thing to do while watching youtube or something (i actually end up watching your vids a lot while hunting). i got a random shiny when i first played pokemon when i was 8, and i feel if it wasn’t for that i would be in he same boat as you as in “why do people even do this?” and also, most shiny hunters are insane, and i’m proud to be one. :)

@@itisfreak I as also 8 I believe and playing on Firered, when I suddenly saw a Fearow that had sparkles or something?
It was on a normal GBA, so not the best option for light in general. A few minutes later I also found a Persian with the sparkle, but I could not see the difference, so I thought my game was broken.
The next day I wanted to check if my game was still broken, so I played again and found another Fearow with sparkles. Maybe it was the Island or the wild pokemon were sick?
Later that day I fought in the Battle Tower and saw a green Espeon that also had the sparkles! So I googled 'sick pokemon fire red' and found out about pokerus, but that didn't give sparkles.
So then I searched for 'pokemon with a star', not the results I could work with (I am Dutch, so my English was... well not much)
And then I searched for the green Espeon and found out the existence of different colored pokemon.

I literally just shiny hunted for a clefairy in lets go eevee, I find shiny hunting in lets go to be extra rewarding because you have a chain system and the more you chain the crazier the screen looks and you're constantly on the look out for a pokemon with the sparkles and the thrill of not only catching it but also reaching it adds to the experience. SO I was shiny hunting a clefairy for about 3 hours and decided I was gonna stop at 3.30 hours at the same time a friend of mine poped on the stream and wished good luck, literally within 3 minutes of finishing the stream and saying our goodbyes a shiny clefairy popped up and we both went wild, my friend said what I think is the best description especially for someone who grew up in the culture I did " that was like watching a your national football team score a goal in the championships"
I find shiny hunting to be rewarding especially if you have these extra things you can do to improve the odds, like work you put into to actually find that pokemon with a potentially cooler color palett than a normal one
PLUS! I now shiny hunt in the middle of main game playthroughs because I want to take a break from the adventure and stop myself from finishing the game too early

I shiny hunted Zubat to reclaim a lost one I found in sapphire.
When I was younger. I ran into a Shiny Zubat in Dewford Cave on Sapphire. I specifically recall it being Black not Green. But that was probably the lighting on my GBA SP
Anyways I raised it to a Crobat but reset the game without transferring it. For Years up to gen 6 I had a hacked Shiny Crobat but attempted to hatch a legit one starting in Black 2.
Cut months before Ultra Sun and Moon released. After Thousands of Eggs across 3 generations. I hatched a Shiny Zubat in Pokemon Moon.
I was so happy. The shiny I lost back in gen 3 returned to me in gen 7. I'm never getting rid of him ever again.

I don’t Shiny Hunt. I really like the idea of naturally coming across a Shiny and then using it because it’s a Shiny. Then you get an unexpected attachment to that certain Pokemon. That very thing happened to me in my ORAS run through when I found a shiny Lotad early on and grew extremely attached to it. It’s now one of my favourite Pokemon.
To me, Shiny Hunting and happening upon a Shiny naturally are like getting your pay check at the end of the month and getting a present on Christmas that you didn’t think you wanted but you end up growing to love it. One clearly gives a better feeling than the other. So I don’t think I’ll ever Shiny hunt. I just look forward to that next Shiny I come across, hoping I’ll grow to love it as much as I did Lily the Lotad (Now Ludicolo).

The only other Shiny within my circle of friends was a single Zubat from the second 5th gen games :/
I like to think that they find me more than I find them. Makes them feel more of a personal to me like you said.
