Canât imagine how much strength youâd need in your legs to run on ice
LexiLSify: Actually, itâs not that difficult! However, I must admit that though I was able to land my single jumps (I began skating at age 48) I REFUSED to do bunny hops, as some of my worst falls occurred doing them, so you wouldnât catch ME trying to run on ice!

The galas are basically the skaters showing a huge middle finger to the ISU like "LOOK AT ALL THE BANNED MOVES I CAN IMPLEMENT! LOOK AT ALL THE POINTS YOU CAN'T DEDUCT"

Gala exhibitions show how beautiful sport is figure skating!! It's so great to see all the athletes, relaxed, enjoying their performances during gala exhibitions...They show us a little from themselves, and we enjoy together with them and as much as they do...

@Peitian ZHANG I agree ooh, I heard a character in a TV series called Scandal mention Tonya Harding which led me to googling her which subsequently lead me to googling Figure Skating which led me to this video and I am vowed with what I saw, Figure Skating is no joke ooh, I can't imagine the effort that had gone to each performance ooh
I think we need more of this new and vibrant figure skating that really speaks to the current generation. I feel like the early 90s set the bar for figure skating, then seemed to die off until more recently when the sport started allowing songs with lyrics that are more mainstream. I think that this was REALLY an important step for the sport because, if we're honest, the Olympics have to change with the times. And, that move was one of the best decisions the Council could have made (I would be remiss if I didn't mention, though, and am surprised that they're not in this top ten because, come on, the dudes are LEGENDS on the ice, Scott Hamilton and Kurt Browning aren't here)!

@@CaptainLuckyDuck i gues that's true..... yuzuru just was in the japan nationals and had the short program with Let Me Entertain You and um... he did as per the lyric's instructions ahahahaha but it was definitely impressive and the music worked despite having lyrics.... (that said, his new one Heaven and Earth was without lyrics and ... granted, yeh, it was far more artistic and nuanced... i guess that's what the Olympics want to keep promoting maybe)
But I pretty sure there were of gals performances very memorable but this is the crazy programs đ maybe another with memorable gala performances ?

Eleonore Bon the song is by BTS. they're crazy popular worldwide both for their critically acclaimed music and just being genuinely good, kind, humble role models. they experiment with all kinds of genres, from hip hop to bubblegum pop to ballads. They also do their own solo songs and mixtapes too. check them out sometime, I'm sure you'd be surprised.

They have the best selling album in the world in 2019, had stadiums tour (they sell out Wembley twice), title track from Map of The Soul: Persona is the most streamed song in first 24 hours on youtube. They had a speech at United Nation last year and this is just a few of their achievements. And despite all the success they are still very humble, funny and hard working guys.

Oh yes, now that you mention BTS, that does ring a bell. But only from reading about it though. About how insecure teenagers that feel like they donât fit in really enjoy this music. They were here in the Netherlands last year. But Iâm way too old to follow all of that!

Oh wow!! I am so glad that Surya Bonaly was #1!! I remember watching her along with many other skaters, but she stood out with her famous back flip as she graced the rink.. Blessings to you Surya and Thank you for sharing this wonderful video!! I was hoping to see others like Hamilton etc..skaters that not only were great skaters, but made me laugh and very entertaining too!
The figure skating gala performances are my favorite part of the whole of the olympics. I love getting to see them getting to love what they do .... they make me laugh cry and feel inspired. Love them!!! đđ

Amazing original performances, some funny, others spine tingling and yet those extra special ones that defy gravity... kudos đ€
ok but like the âofficialâ reason the backflip is banned isnât because itâs too dangerous, itâs because the landing was made on two feet instead of one and therefore wasnât a ârealâ jump. so surya landing it on one leg was basically just her giving the ISU a big middle finger and saying âhaha look what I can do and you canât even deduct any points for this one đ€â.
AND THEN she had the balls to do it at the 1998 free skate after she injured herself & knew she was out of gold medal contention anyways. it was her last olympics and she had nothing to lose at that point. despite the fact that she got a deduction and ended up finishing 10th (I think), it was an iconic moment.

My recollection of Surya and back flips is a lie different. The ISO kept saying that back flips weren't "real" jumps because they were landed on two feet. The thing that was really remarkable about this performance (and a great big f- you to the ISO) is that she landed it in one foot, totally negating that excuse for banning it from competition.
