I can hardly stop laughing. - "After watching the video three times, I was none the wiser" - "I'm pretty sure I turned to alcohol after that" Such great one-liner comebacks!!! Pure genius. Thank you for all the creativity you put into your craft. Please know that it is not in vain. We love it, and keep coming back for more!!

    I sold my Casio DW660 which I bought in 1995 on joining the RAF. Had it as a daily-wear for 10 years and eventually sold it for pennies because it needed a new strap. I wasn't really 'into' watches back then, and didn't realise I could replace the strap, cover, etc...

    My biggest regret was not getting into quartz (digital) watches sooner! I'd started with old manual wind / automatics, progressed to new ones, but still shunned quartz watches, especially digital ones. Now, the bulk of my collection are quartz watches and my daily wear is a G shock. I now appreciate more the tech behind how quartz watches work, and how they brought wristwatches to the masses.

    • @seabiscuit726142
      @seabiscuit726142 Před měsícem +1

      ”Brought wristwatches to the masses”?
      Not really 😅
      Everyone had a watch on their wrists before quartz era. There was no other alternative in those days.

    • @plektosgaming
      @plektosgaming Před 28 dny

      @@janelavie4115 The issue was that we were suffering with basically tiny cheap wind up alarm clocks on our wrists. Wind and set it daily. Usually some cheap Timex or similar that wasn't water resistant (not really) and didn't like being banged around very much. But we did know the time. Quartz, beat it up and forget about winding it - it was the reason we all bought one. Set the time once a week and on look - it's got some waterproofness so the rain doesn't ruin it. :)
      What quartz brought was reliability and survivability without the cost of a "real" watch.

    I actually feel some regret about getting this far into this hobby. I used to be content with just two watches: a Seiko solar chronograph that I wore to anything indoors and a Casio Pro Trek that I wore outdoors. The Seiko broke one day and over the last 5 years, I discovered automatics, Swiss watches, GMTs and somehow found justification to spend thousands on watches that are less accurate than a $10 Casio from Walmart. I sold the Pro Trek more than 3 years ago and just bought another one back, but this one has Multi-Band 6. I think it's time to get back to basics and reclaim some sanity with this hobby.

I already had the the G-Shock 5610 non 'U' version with the EL back light that had been with my through various hospital procedures and surgeries over the years but still decided to get the 'U' LED backlight version with arguably improved functional updates. Great topic and very well presented MWC. I would probably normally suggest selling the Explorer given you are not wearing it, but prices are not as strong as they were say two years ago, so a more prudent position might be to hold onto it and sell at the top of the next 'crazy time'. This also gives you the time to do some serious thinking on what you would get in its place.

    Hiya Russ! First time commentor - I found your channel via JOMW and the review of the Origin. Your videos are fun, I enjoy them!
    My regrets have stemmed from buying disconinued Seikos. Buying a used SKX can be a minefield, and a couple of times what looked like a very well presented watch turned out to be a poorly reassembled non original watch out of the Philippines. I've then associated the bad taste of paying too much for a watch not worth the asking price with the watch itself, meaning I don't wear it, and it sits in the box reminding me of it. A hard lesson, but a valuable one.

    Great video as usual. I just received my titanium Bel Canto in Cielo. It's gorgeous and I haven't taken it out of the box. All of a sudden I have this weird feeling that I'm wearing a watch that is more expensive than any I've bought before and I drive downtown and see tent cities and homeless people everywhere and now it feels so wrong. So I think it's going on Chrono24. While I love automatics I find myself grabbing my Citizen Promaster Diver titanium that I don't care if I'm wearing while doing a brake job or oil change. I love that watch. I also love my Lorier Neptune and Seiko Capt. Willard. Regrets, I've had a few.

    I feel the exact same with with my GS. I have the SBGA465 and it is just so blingy (to me). I took it off the bracer immediately to tone it down with straps and I think it helped, I also think it helped fit a little smaller too. I doubt I’ll sell it anytime soon, I just need to force myself to view it as simply a white watch without lume instead of a blingy dress watch.

    I`m afraid we have a different view regarding the SNA411. It`s a great entry level piece for a lot of people interested in the hobby but not willing to spend a lot. I`ve had mine (from the previously mentioned gentleman`s recommendation) and I still love it. You definitely need to like the busy style but if you do, go for it without regret.

    Hey Russ great video. Full disclosure I’m not a big fan of what Rolex represents and how they do business these days either. That being said I respect the history and that watch should be worn if you are going to keep it. I would sell it. Take the proceeds and carefully choose something more in line with your sensibilities, and somewhat iconic from a brand with history- worthy of being passed down. You can still look at the new watch and trace its lineage directly to your grandfather, remembering him and how much he inspired you.

    The only watch I have that I never get sick of is my SKX007.
    I liked my king turtle but never LOVED it - Sold.
    I liked my solar tuna but never LOVED it - Sold.
    I hardly wear my Casioak anymore - Can't sell it because it was a gift.
    I am considering a step up in value for my next watch with various options (Doxa Sub 200t, Longines Zulu, Rado Captain Cook even up to a Sinn U50). I will sit on it and see if I fall out of love with any.

    I must admit I’ve fortunately picked up my collection after serious thoughts and not sold any. Only problem I’ve got a few models duplicated in case they become discontinued ie dw6600 and a few models with different colours. I do regret neg display g shocks to be honest. Keep the explorer Russ it’s a keeper and you have a sentimental connection wear it with pride.

    I don’t think you could be a watch collector without having some buying and selling remorse. In my case more the buying 😢 I too got a Flighty (thanks TGV), but like you, sold it not long after (for a profit mind you!). I also got the Bulova Lunar Pilot (far too big), and I’ve bought a G-shock G7900 twice and sold both (again too big). I can see a pattern emerging here! However, I think I’m fortunate that there isn’t a watch I’ve moved on that I regret doing so. Yet!! 😂

    Two reasons I’d hold off selling. Firstly, tastes change. You might fall out with it and come back around. If it’s too much bling, get it off the bracelet. Secondly, and maybe this is a me thing, but when I buy another watch, sometimes it makes me appreciate another watch in my collection more. No idea why, but it happens all the time! And if it doesn’t happen in the next few years, well then maybe it is time to sell.

    I have the 214270 mk2 for 6 years now, since then i bought few other watches like omega, grand seiko and Tudor, I don’t wear my Explorer that much now, however every time i put it on I know it’s my exit watch. • @jeffee1933

    The Seiko/Breitling bezel is an E6B flight computer (know in flight school as the E6B Flight Confuser). You need to know how to use one mid flight to get your private pilots license and they are about 6” across. We now literally have apps on our phones to do these calculations. So putting one on a watch dial is about the equivalent of putting diamonds on a bezel. It’s jewlery in the form of illegible text that has literally no practical use.

      The 114270 is cooler imop and wears a little bigger than 36mm, solid end links and the indestructible 3130 movement that can be serviced by any independent watchmaker. Unlike the new movement's that only Rolex can service. Also the new Explorer just looks dainty and wears smaller. The 114270 shares alot of similarities to the 1016 and that's what really makes it great and makes it feel like Rolex of the past that were just awesome sports watches
