    For me, the 'magic' is the technical, behind the scenes stuff like the workshop, maintenance room, the office... you know, the places where it's 'employees only!'

      Shows how efficient they are with space too. In any theme park, space is at a premium so they have to use what they can.
      With the lights off during the ride, and with everything moving around diverting your attention, you wouldn't even think about looking down behind you (and you can't with the Doombuggy limiting your vision)
      And its also a smart idea to have repair equipment so close, so when the do nightly maintenance, everything is right there and doesn't have to be brought in from a farther off workshop.

    Man, I have wanted this to happen to me SO BAD for years and years now. I’d even pay extra money for a walking behind the scenes tour of the full mansion like this lol. Consider yourself lucky! The closest I’ve ever gotten to this was one time when we went through most of Pirates with all the lights on and another time when we had to evacuate Splash Mountain and got to walk through most of the entire ride with all the lights on as well. Always such a cool experience, especially when you’ve ridden those rides more times than you can count and really love taking in all the details of a beloved attraction like this. Plus, if the ride does break down and you end up having to evacuate, you always get a free fast pass to come back and ride it again later. Getting stuck and having to evacuate a ride like this is just a win-win for everyone! Really hope this happens to me one day!

    Okay,Disney needs to hire more overnight maintenance workers and pay them better so they wouldn't have this issue

    • @AndrewMacLaine
      @AndrewMacLaine Před 5 lety +1

      Actually, malfunctions like this occur most often for two reasons, and they both have to do with safety, well maintained sensors, and people thinking they can get away with something.
      1.) a safety harness is unsecure or was not deployed correctly. On this ride, it means at the beginning, a guest didn't pull down all the way on the safety bar and the CM in charge of checking it (which they have to do in the dark) did not catch it. Sometimes guests will do this because they want to be able to lean out further than they should to view the ballroom.
      2.) Something was dropped on the track that could impede movement. This can be a bag accidentally dropped, again hard to spot in the dark, but sometimes guests drop or throw things on purpose so they can feel they special they left something on the ride. The haunted mansion notably has a problem with people leaving ashes or personal items of the departed.

      This video is the HM in Florida. They don't do the the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay in Florida like they do at Disneyland in CA. You can see in the video (if you watched it) with the lights on that there is a black catwalk type ring walkway around the Leota scene.
      I've read other stories that CA is different and it used to be just an open hole (for a storage area below) but someone freaked out when the ride stopped in the room while they were riding alone and tried to climb out in the dark and fell down to the concrete floor about 12 ft below and got hurt bad (broken bones) and apparently was stuck down on the floor below in pitch black for over an hour yelling for help but riders just thought it was part of the show for the ride. In CA they supposedly since the incident have some kind of a net system around the hole in the Leota scene to catch anyone who tries to climb out and falls in.

    I've never been to Disney, and u can tell it in what I'm gonna say .I always thought the haunted mansion was a walk through .Anyway for some reason with a haunted elevator.

    • @willausterman3104
      @willausterman3104 Před 5 lety +1

      Disneyland's Haunted Mansion has a very nice indoor queue that's kind of like a walkthrough. As for a haunted elevator that would be either the Stretching Room at the Haunted Mansion (it's a little preshow) or the ride experience of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

      I know im one year late lol. Walt did plan the mansion for a walk through. After Walt passed the Disney imagineers decided to make it a ride through!

    • @spiceweasel8966

      It originally was. The ghost host was an actual host, or rather a floating lantern, leading you through the mansion.
      Not sure when it changed.

    I love it -- the black raven is still looking around at 0:58! "Where's Madame Leota?" "Oh, she's just hanging around somewhere...." The funny part is that these guest are getting a small taste of what the original concept was for the Disneyland Haunted Mansion -- as a "walk thru" attraction (before the "Doombuggies").

    I would think that would have to be the most surreal experience, being stuck on a ride at Magic Kingdom, or any ride for that mater at Disney World. Which got me to thinking what other cool rides would be awesome to get stuck on? BTW, i wonder how long The Haunted Mansion was down?

    • @mommytorres16

      der22672 I'd love to get stuck on either Pirates, or Peter Pan's Flight. As much as I enjoy Small World...that music just keeps going and going and going. I couldn't do that!

      @metropod Před 7 lety +2

      Amanda Torres you'd love it for about the first 20 minutes, then you'd never want to hear "A Pirates' life for me" again. And yes, this is speaking from experience.

      @mommytorres16 Před 7 lety +1

      metropod between 2003 and 2009, we had annual passes. Not only did my husband and I get to listen to the music from Tampa to Disney, but in the parks and then we heard it every night lol. Our kids had the CD though I'm not sure which volume. It had Pirates & Off to Neverland. Some kids listened to Barney over and over...ours did Disney songs. 😃
      If you know WDW, so you know where that one area is for the Pirates line that has the chess board? We used to use that spot to cool off too. I'm sure it is nothing to somebody working there all day though! I could handle a few hours for sure! Actually, I have been wanting to get passes again. Maybe we'll do a challenge 😂😂

      I got stuck on Big Thunder Mountain once. They evac you through the mountain so you get to see the insides of the structure. it is and always will be my most magical moment. I actually got stuck with a bunch of cheerleaders and a camp counselor. there's a video on my channel of how they distracted the kids from freaking out. it was awesome!

      Evacuating from pirates was pretty cool. Someone had to get in the water and back our boat up from the jailed pirates with the dog back into the previous room with all of the pirates on the street. We walked down the street and up a staircase that took us outside behind all of adventure land. Not too shabby!

    I always assumed they would walk you out the nearest fire exit. But that would put guests outside backstage and break the entire day's illusion as opposed to just the one attraction. Now the props crew will have to go back through the entire ride and replace all the cobwebs...haha
