The air conditioning systems helps keep the glass cleaner, preventing dust and dirt from sticking to the surface by blowing over the surface at a controlled velocity and temperature, which also helps control any moisture from forming as well. There are also coatings that serve different purposes and can be used for particular applications as well.

My fav Disney optical illusion is the forced perspective on Snow White’s Grotto. Disney anonymously received marbles statues of Snow White and some other characters, but they were all the same size. Hench was given the job to make a display to make Snow White appear taller than the dwarves. He did this by having the waterfall start off small and narrow at her feet, then cascade wider down.

The first time I went to Disney World (Orlando) I was blown away by the attention to detail that made me feel like I'd fallen into my childhood imagination, where I was the main character in the story. This video made me realize that, "huh, maybe that's not totally wrong!" (Recalls that tears-in-the-eyes moment upon entering the park and hearing the sweeping Disney music).
When you watch a Disney film, you know you're watching a story unfold--you expect it. Maybe that's why Disney World always takes my breath away. As opposed to a third-person narration (films/storybooks) in which you follow the main character, in Disney World, YOU are the main character. It's reader-insert at its finest!
(I finally realize why I felt so...for lack of a better word, important when I first walked down Main Street! (*Sings 'Go the Distance' from Hercules' tree perch whilst looking over the world*) It was like an abstract version of Disney (the invisible narrator that we all knew as children) could see me even though I was surrounded by crowds of people. It was a diamond-in-the-rough moment.)

The audio mixing that I am most impressed with is the audio in the lands themselves. The transitions between lands and rides are all accomplished with careful placement of speakers and control of acoustics so that you can walk from, say, Adventure Land, past Pirates of the Caribbean, through Frontier Land and New Orleans Square, past the Haunted Mansion, into Fantasy land, past Pooh corner, past the teacups, into Tomorrowland and only ever hear thematically appropriate music that fades in and out as you walk. Truly amazing.

7:53 - Liberty Square's design is meant to follow actual Old City Philadelphia streets, but not in the way you're explaining. For a perfect example, search for Elfreth's Alley, but you can search old city images in general because you'll see that Revolution era streets had a rougher, rockier cobblestone center with red brick sidewalks. Much of the older parts of the city still have 200+ year old brick sidewalks, and some of the more out of the way alleys and closed streets are still the original cobblestone. People didn't generally throw their waste into the streets from their windows in Philadelphia at the time of the Revolution, it was one of the most modern cities in the world - capital of the United States until 1800, by which time Philadelphia was in the process of becoming the first major city in the world to provide fresh drinking water to all residents, a feat accomplished by 1801. Even in the mid 1700s there were in-house and outdoor privy's and a system of storm drains, but nearly all human waste was collected manually by companies paid for the service (honeywagons - what a name...). Sorry for the long reply - not expecting you to edit the video or anything, just enjoy your videos and thought you might appreciate the extra info!

Walt Disney being an anti Semite is actually a common myth. He had no feelings against the Jewish people, and even made anti-Nazi cartoons during World War 2. People who say Walt Disney “didn’t like Jews” typically are just saying it because they heard someone else say it and didn’t actually do any research on the matter.

Dimples and Disney Quick question, I was eagerly hoping to be a part of the College Disney Program when I get into college (I'm a senior in hs this year, so not much time left ahaha) but I was wondering if it's difficult to get into it? How do you get into it? Sorry for bugging ya but it sounds super cool and I've been dreaming of doing it since I heard of it years ago, but I just don't know how it works.

Kellie McMurray This was my second time applying, I applied at the end of my first semester of college and i didn’t make it in. You have to be 18+ to apply, you have to have completed at least one semester of college, and you have to still be in school at the time you apply; you can also apply up to 6months after college graduation . I talk about it more in my “DCP Tag” on my channel, but you just send in an application with your school and work experience, just like any other job, if they like it then you get a web based interview, (just choose the most disney sounding answers), if you pass that you get a phone interview, you can find the most commonly asked question online, and after that you find out if you’ve been hired. I applied Jan 26, got my web interview Jan 28, Phone interview Feb 11 and was accepted Feb 15.

Offhand Disney I like learning about things like the smellitzers and “go away green”, but other things like forced perspectives or certain ride illusions are all I can see once I learn about them. For me I guess learning the magician’s secrets takes a little bit away from the act; the mystery is usually the best part.

i did the keys to the kingdom tour at mk last year too and i learned so many cool things that i never would have known.

At Disney world, Main Street is at a slight incline, meaning that as you walk toward the castle you are inclining, and as you are leaving the park, declining. This further gives the illusion that the castle is bigger/further away than it actually is. Also the buildings on main street are not proportioned correctly, the second and third story facades are actually smaller and also gives the illusion that those buildings are bigger than they are. And as a coincidence, the slightly declining of Main Street toward the exit makes it easier for guests to leave. Walking downhill tends to speed up walking.

    • @saffcookee
      @saffcookee Před 5 lety

Plus, the uphill part of Main Street (I think) unintentionally made guests to slow down and take in Main Street before they zoomed off in the other parts of the park. Also why you see shows early in the morning there. (What? I'm a nerd :p)

Also, if you think about it, the people who put together the ride audio that you can find on spotify and such, such as Navi River Journey, put in a lot of work, as they much simulate what it sounds like to slowly move through a tunnel of hundreds of speakers all just repeating a certain sound. But whoever puts it together must control which sounds slowly get louder, and then softer.

I drove with my friend to deliver them, going into the _”underground”_ world beneath the park... security was *_very_* confused at a large trailer full of dead plants until he saw where we were going... the Haunted House. They preserved the plants (how I’m not sure) and to this day you can still see them throughout the attraction !!

You aren't alone on the headache part of the heads staring at you from the Haunted Mansion ride. Once I found that out, which was when I was young, I can't stop looking past the illusion. So I normally don't look at them when going on the ride. Granted, I only visit a Disney park once in a great moon. But, it has stuck with me for 15 years now. Damn that Disney.

I love it when the statues talked. Really enjoyed the elevator, too, when it elongates above your head. The talking knockers, etc. I always thought it was holograms, but when I went as a child they didnt have that technology, so it makes sense now. Gives the phrase "done with smoke and mirrors new meaning. And thought not an illusion, I also enjoyed the animatronics in the building that turned and and depicted history. President Lincoln, when he stands up is amazing. At least to my 12 year old brain it was.

storytime: While on the Peter Pan ride once, the power went out and emergency lights came on while we were "flying over London". We noticed that the entire floor/london is flat and streets and lights were just painted with optical colors that glow under black light. However the cool cloud effect which gave that feeling of depth was literally just large semi transparent trash bags left randomly around. The people running the ride told us that it didnt originally have that feature but the cleaning crew from the previous night left the bags behind. The park overlords decided it looked awesome so theyve been left there every since!

In the 1970’s I jumped the fence at Disneyland Lafitt’s landing to check out a firefly. It was different from what you saw - was suspended by a thin wire but had a small mechanical “bobbing” arm to make it go up and down.

By far my favorite visually exciting effect is in the beginning of the Haunted Mansion (in California for sure, I have not been on any others) to break up the line we are bundled into an "elevator" that extends and drops making the roof go much much further above you than before. Suddenly the happy paintings get very very long and turn quite grotesque, morbid, or downright creepy with the added imagery. I've seen it more than a dozen times and love it every time. AND I love the effect of different ghosts in each trolley in the mansion as we are paraded across many full length mirrors. Not sure how it was done, but I love it.

I actually have noticed the floor transitions before this video came out because I just naturally when I crowded places I tend to look at the ground to make sure I’m not stepping on anyone

gissneric It’s being a “Debbie Downer” to not be a mindless sheep that worships Disney or just willingly throws money at it? I’ll wear that as a badge of honor.

captainjack8319 it's not worshipping, it's just having fun once in a while. It's a tourists destination so of course being expensive is given. I go there to have fun and not always be mindful of what I'm paying cause I'm on vacation. I also go to Universal Studios and Six Flags which are also super expensive so there it's not just Disney.

Favorite illusion definitely has to be the ballroom scene in haunted mansion. I once went to disney with my boy scout troop and because of a program we did we got to go behind the scenes and saw a lot of the mechanisms and how the illusions on the ride work.

I enjoy a few things! To make rain, the use of "streamers" hanging vertically and fluttering -- thanks to a hidden fan -- in and out of tightly-focused bands of light (sometimes it IS water, but not everywhere). I also recall a shimmering/blinking light effect in "It's a Small World" being created by mirrors (or something mildly reflective) being randomly attached to a vertically-hanging string. The string naturally twists and moves a bit, reflecting light into your eyes, causing a "blinking" effect. As a theatre professional, it's fun to see the low-tech ways that Disney still does some effects -- they are classics!
