      I was surprised to see so many out here. The Vegas area has a huge population of Big Horns

    I'll bet you were "tire'd after that last day. Sorry, I just never get "tire"d of saying that. Seriously though, did you expect to see those cairns? I mean, out in the middle of nowhere. I attribute it to good route-finding on your part. Smart decision ditching ascent to that peak. On a lesser scale, I have had to do the same thing. "Only the rocks live forever"! Like you said there will always be another opportunity. Those big horn sheep are something, surviving in that environment. Another great video and narrative. Thank y6ou for sharing.

      I love the cheesy tire puns, lay 'em on thick! It always surprises me seeing cairns in some of these places where I thought few travel. I wonder though, how often some of these places are hiked. A couple of times a year? Every couple of years? Some of the summit registers in nearby peaks offer clues. I climbed one peak in section 9, in the New Water Range, where the summit entry had only 4 entries since 1987!

    you continue to put out great content, southern Nevada is an amazing place few visit.

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Greg! It was surprising to me how few people visit and hike the area around lake mead considering how close it is to Las Vegas. I guess red rocks gets all the attention. And the area South of Vegas, gets even less traffic

      @@SeekingLost ya know and the other thing, I was really surprised you did run across anything unusual considering people have been doing crazy stuff in the mountains around las vegas for decades.

    Great video. Lots of pucker factor in this one. Happy to see that you chose to hike another day, rather than risk it in a few places. What is the weirdest piece of "human trash" that you have found while adventuring out in these desolate places?

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Jason! Hmm that's a tough one, can't think of any one thing off hand, im going to have to think about that and get neck to you. It's usually not what i find, it's where. Always surprises me to see trash in some really remote spot... like on top of the grant range in nv, i found some sort of canvas bag. Or, a tire in the middle of the middle fork gila river in nm on the cdt

    When was the last time you had back flushed your Sawyer? I’ve heard it’s helpful to do so whenever flow starts to slow down.

    • @PaigeWeso
      @PaigeWeso Před 2 lety +1

      Also it’s bold for someone from Michigan to say they don’t want to live along a lake like Lake Mead 😂

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  Před 2 lety +1

      I think I had backflushed it about 6 weeks prior, after I last hiked with it. I was kicking myself for not checking it before leaving home. Which reminds me to do the same RIGHT NOW, I'm leaving for the Oregon Desert Trail in a week!

      @@SeekingLost Wonderful video! So amazing that you document these undocumented beautiful areas!
      I was in Red Lodge WY about to head into the mountains with a hopelessly clogged Sawyer and the store there did not sell Sawyer brand. So I spent an hour back flushing it with hot water and it ended up as good as new. I would never have believed it.

      @@timgardner-PapaG Glad that worked out and saved your filter! After checking my filter for my upcoming ODT hike, mine was pretty clogged form sitting again. So I soaked it in 135 degree water for 90 minutes, and it was still pretty clogged. I ran some vinegar through it, used my mouth to blow it through with some pressure, and that did the trick... it was gushing out after that. I think that will be my new pre-hike sawyer procedure from now on.

    Just incredible hiking! You are very brave to hike and rock climb by yourself! All of your footage is stunning!
    41:35 Whenever I fly out of LAX, I make sure to sit on the right side of the plane. 40 mins after takeoff, I get stunning views of Lake Mead 😃!! I've made some good videos of this.

      @SeekingLost  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks! These were some pretty fun scrambles mostly, just enough to get the heart rate going and still be pretty passable. I bet the views from above are awesome! That is the fun part, to try and identify things on the ground from the plane. Especially areas I've hiked, cool to see it from that perspective

      And what's even wilder, I believe Lake Mead was at its all-time high in 2000. How rapidly the lake has fallen is shocking.

    Eric thanks for sharing. Glad you are doing well. Funny, I used to date a girl from Overton, NV. Her dad was a Park Ranger back in the late 90s. I did a lot of biking in Valley of Fire, and water skiing Lake Mead when it was completely full. Back in 90s it was barely a blip on a map. Hey BTW- I was able to get out and do some of the Gila a month ago. Great place! Thanks

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  Před 2 lety +1

      There was definitely some bike traffic on Northshore Dr, that would be an awesome ride through VOF. More bikers than hiekrs in that area for sure. Glad you got to enjoy the Gila, looking forward to a video when you get it up! Headed out to hike the Oregon Desert Trail in a few days, then doing 2 months of hiking/packrafting in Greenland this summer. Pretty stoked for that! Will let you know if I'm in your area this fall on my way back out AZ, or wherever I end up haha

    if it was in australia they could have named it nanjimbil and it would have been passable as an authentic australian aboriginal name.

  • @bloodyeyeful

    I'm into place names. Their origins especially. Thanks for the story. I have to agree with you...lame. I can't stand place names such as Lake of the Woods, or, Forest River, Vista View is one of my least favorites.. Lol. Now, "Red Blanket" mountain Oregon is a good one. A dead body found on it, wrapped in a red blanket, back in the day. Smart move at the Sentinel. Live to fight another day. Blessings all.

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah see that's a name with a story behind it. I suppose not every place can have such a rich history though. Vista View... they weren't even trying haha
