    I actually just bought some of the exact brass for scx24 links but I'm gonna try to soften the brass and hammer and shape out completely brass links with the end in brass too. I think it'll turn out pretty nice.

    Great videos....love the knowledge and creativity!!!....Suggestion, if you spin those high clearance links around 180 and put the bent end closer to the axle you might like it better and get better performance. It will tuck the link up in the chassis a little more and give better angles coming off your skid plate as long as there is no binding....Please keep up the great work and look very much forward to more videos....Thanks!!

    Hey Matt. Thanks for this vid. Great idea for adding clearance and low weight! Having a couple pins in a scrap of plywood to hold the ball ends in the exact spot as stock would help with glue-up accuracy. Just wax the pins and put a piece of masking tape or wax paper under the glue joint so it doesn't stick to the plywood. :) Probably get away with a smaller dowel pin then for attaching the ball end to the grass rod. Rough sanded smaller brass rod would be plenty strong. That epoxy is doing most of the work. :)

      @2fmrc  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah that’s the way to do it for sure!!! Awesome idea!

      @@2fmrc Thanks. The cool thing as well is you can use one pin as the base for one end of all different arm lengths. Then just add other holes in different locations to put the second pin for the various arm lengths. Makes it an all-in-one jig. And that epoxy sands pretty nice, if you want to get Gucci on it LOL! There's a good jig design I have for making accurate, repeatable bends. I bend 3/16 to 3/4" solid steel round bar with it by hand, but it could be scaled down easily for this application. But it require pictures and/or a video with commentary to describe. Maybe I'll figure out how to do a YT video one of these days as I hate to see folks struggle doing things, when there's an easy solution. I just finished binging EXPIOWA vid's. Now on to yours. Definitely inspired to get one of these and build a course. :)

      @@2fmrc Giving it some more thought, if you have a drill press or even a drill clamped in a vice, you could chuck up the brass rod and run the drill. With a file or better, a Dremel tool and stone bit, you could hillbilly lathe the rod ends down to size and insert them directly into the ball ends. this would save trying to drill a tiny hole in the rod and save it being off center. Just go slow and use your calipers to gauge. I've done 1/4" to 3/4" steel rod, chucked up in my drill press and machined it down with an angle grinder then swapped to a file or sand paper. If you're patient and careful, you can get some very fine toleranced results. Only thing is you'd have to do it before bending and you'd need to have it cut to your finished length. Anyway, just a bit of coffee shop engineering if you're inclined to play with it. ;)
      Best regards!
      Bert

    Brass being soft, you could maybe even just use only the brass rod, tap the ends flat and drill the hole through them, avoid drilling lengthwise, and the threaded rod and plastic ends altogether. or even do it with aluminum rod and again hammer or file it down to an eyelet.

      I actually ended up doing this to make rear links. So far they're working fine.

    Looking good!
    I need to make another set of links. Made some with 1/8" brass tube, 2-56, and shapeways link ends.
    I like how you used the stock links.
    Next links i make, will be stainless steel tube, as it doesn't stick to sharp rocks like brass does, and no need to drill with 2-56 all the way through tube.
    Thanks for the tutorial, always like to see others with.

      @nick101137 Před 3 lety

      "2-56 all the way threw tube" where do you get that?

  • @DeliberateNRandom
    @DeliberateNRandom Před 2 lety

    I thought you were going to say you put the brass rod inside the tube, bent it, and you could glue it all together for extra reinforcement. You could use a pointed punch or nail to punch a point into each side to prevent it from rotating.

    Been an RC guy for many years and know how costly it can be, having a money pit toy. So to have the same effect, make an angled jig to your required angle and heat up the stock plastic arms and push them against the jig with a tool or glove (don't burn yourself) and hold them down until they cool down and you will get the same clearance effect. Paint them silver for more show effect but more so have fun with your stock SCX24 and keep doing home mods!

    • @2fmrc
      @2fmrc  Před 3 lety

      Yep! It’ll work! Only thing I hate about doing that with the stock plastic links is you lose a little length. Not much though. Good stuff for sure!

    @daven.5615 Před 3 lety

    Nice, I'm definitely making a set of these. How did you figure out measurements to cut the brass link to size? If so do you remember the mm on it for the rear links on the C10? Wasn't sure if these needed to have a low tolerance or if they could be eyeballed. Thanks!

    • @DeliberateNRandom

    Awesome work man, I think modding these rigs is almost as much fun as wheeling them! I wanna weight bias in the front, do you think I could just heat up the back links w/ a hairdryer and bend them? Or would they be too short then?

    • @2fmrc
      @2fmrc  Před 3 lety +1

      A lot of people heat them and bend them very slightly. It will shorten the wheelbase a bit but if you just do a tiny bend you won’t really notice the 1mm or so loss.

    Nice! Although im probably too clumsy to get it done myself :D What are those tires? I got a SCX24 but im so confused to which tires and rims work together. I always hear 1". But, at least in Europe, I cant seem to find decently priced Rims to mount them on..

    • @2fmrc
      @2fmrc  Před 3 lety

      Tim Ebert rc4wd are usually the wheels and tires that I use. Not sure how their availability is in Europe but they are pretty nice. The larger tires on the red rig in the video are the rc4wd scramblers and the ones on the c10 are their rock creeper. I really like both. The scramblers are BIG so just know they are a lot for something like the C10 but work really well on a tube chassis type build etc.
