- Finding the perfect secluded WILD SWIMMING spot as we visit the Southern Tip of Africa, where the INDIAN OCEAN meets the ATLANTIC OCEAN. Visiting Cape Agulhas lighthouse in a gale just reminded us how lucky we were to have moderate conditions as we sailed Florence past this southernmost tip of the African Continent.
We have been sailing around the world for 6 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs, lows, and challenges of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

What an amazing achievement being able to look out from the southern tip lighthouse and say "we sailed past here". What stunningly beautiful landscapes.
Nice footage and so nice to see my home country through your cameras....enjoy SA.....
After watching your South Africa videos I have added that country to my travel bucket list. You did a fantastic job showcasing the natural beauty of the country, and as always your commentary makes for excellent viewing . Cheers!
Love traveling with you two! Thank you for sharing your view
Excellent vidio you are definitely one of the best sailing channels looking forward to what's next
That lighthouse had a water tap for a door handle.
That is some pioneer ingenuity right there.
I’m all for “adventure” . One of the sweetest episodes…pools of water were beyond just inviting, especially to a water lover, spoiled fresh water lover. Beautiful costal region. So glad to see South Africa through your eyes. Cheers 🥂
I've said it before but THANK YOU for sharing your adventures. Love the class you provide in each of your video releases. God Bless and safe travels.
I watch a lot of youtube sailing channels, I think you are the best at water shots, really enjoy how you photograph waves/rocks/wind..
Totally agree, we watch a few too and theirs are by far the best edited and their footage is amazing! We’re big fans😍😍
South Africa was brilliantly showcased. I’m with Amy definitely drink the wine. 😁
Great job Matt & Amy. Look forward to seeing the prep unfold for your 8000 mile journey.
Well done Matt & Amy!
Stunning video doing justice to my ‘backyard’. I’m so grateful to be able to live in this stunning part of the country!!!
The Wine and the Giggles, loved it.
Oh how I miss my homeland Thanks guys great video.
Loved the video and seeing some of South Africa from your perspective.
The swimming hole was the stuff of dreams. Fantastic!
In USA the corrugated road is referred to as WASHBOARD.
Thank you so much for sharing!!
Simply stunning! Well done
Fair winds ⛵️
Your last episode, rounding the Southern Tip of Africa may have been the best sailing episode of any CZcamsr on the planet. I salute you, having circumnavigated in the 1980s, presently cruising the Bahamas.
RIP Patrick Childress.
Watching over Rebecca on Brickhouse.
Lovely video. Thanks. My mother in law bought a Citi Golf assembled in Zimbabwe in 1983. It is apparently still alive and well 39 years later and to be seen driving round Bulawayo. A wonderful little car. Glad you enjoyed yours.
I dream of visiting South Africa in person one day. Thank you for these beautiful views!
You are never going to be allowed to forget that dirt road.
Well done and well narrated ..Congratulations..
Home sweet home.
You two are my Spirit Animal , thank you for letting me in..... you rock!
You caught the enormity of the waves/ ocean at the beginning….well done! Thx, Andrew
I am so glad you visited the Cape Agulhas Light house. She is one of the most beautiful light houses and worthy of protecting the most southern tip of Africa. As a Capetonian, I concur with you that South Africa has many more gems to explore, the Nature reserves with the big 5 is a must as well as the shark diving in Gansbaai. Next time, and remember you are always welcome any time.
Lovely to see you swimming in the Cape mountain water. We as kids called it Coca-Cola water. You made me remember the best times. 💘
The landscape is incredible. What a v scenic drive that was.
I’ve been watching you since Panama and of course after I found your channel I binge watched all the previous episodes to that. I have to say, I’ve never heard you two talk about a place the way you speak about South Africa. Even in paradise places after your Pacific crossing you didn’t speak like you are now. I think you may have found your future retirement spot.
We have visited some amazing remote picture perfect islands on our travels. But it may sound strange to hear that we cannot fully relax there. There is always the worry that if something goes wrong or breaks you are a very long way from boat parts or health care. Everywhere has its compromises. Cape Town and New Zealand have been the places we would consider living. Cape Town pips New Zealand by being closer to family in the UK and almost the same time zone.
I loved the fantastic marker at the most southern point of Africa. Almost as much as I loved the Cape Agulhas lighthouse. I enjoyed seeing the point where the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic meet. The African coast is truly a scenic highway. What a treasure you found in your private swimming hole. It was worth the bumpy ride. I didn't know that Africa was a wine country. Thank you to your friends for lending you such an iconic car. She is a jewel. Most of all, thank you for sharing your journey. 👏
The cape is most marvelous. Could spend a lifetime there
I love the way that girls always go off when you hit a dirt road :)
You went past my house in the Strand on Beach Road, near Gordon's Bay then on to Hermanus were I was borne. When you started your journey I never thought that this would ever be possible to happen. SA is a wonderful place, especially the Cape. Keep safe. Cheers Cape Town.
Nice adventure and beautiful scenery. Happy Sailing ⛵️.
The word “iconic” seems to be overly used, however, it is appropriate here! And for a bonus, from my US perspective, done in a Mark One Golf! Delightful! And as fellow sailor, I got a good laugh regarding spitting it out…. Cheers! And a nod to the driver.
Stunning video as usual. This must take an enormous amount of time and effort to get this amount of quality. I watched a film crew making an advert for Yorkshire tea last week with Sir Patrick Stewart and it took an Army of people 2 days to film it which will last 30 seconds !!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks :-) We spend roughly 2 hours editing for every 1 minute of finished video, so around 40 hours in front of the laptop for this one. Don't ask about the planning/filming time on top though.... Probably more efficient than the tea advert....
Your time is well spent, in that the South African videos are your best ever. Feel like we're there with you. 😀🙏
@@SailingYachtFlorence wow, you make it look so natural I'd never have guessed!
Well done! Camera work was fantastic
I am so very glad you got to experience a little bit of my corner of the world! Enjoy you Atlantic trip. Say hi to St. Helena.
WOW! Stunning… simply beautiful. Thank you for taking us along, we enjoyed every second of this episode and look forward to your journey onward! ♥️✌🏼⛵️
Although SA is not where I'm from, but being African in the UK you guys are making me home sick. Glad you guys are enjoying Africa. Wish you guys could go to Vicfalls in Zimbabwe.
One day we hope to return for a road trip around the whole of Africa, some places are best to see by boat, some places best by land.
Totally agree. In Africa you need a vehicle to get the best experience as you guys know.
You guys have inspired me to buy my first drone. I'm learning to fly 🥳. I got a DJI mini 2, what a great little drone, I'm having a ball. Thank you for your photography, it truly is inspirational.
Fair winds Florence.
A few days ago, i found your channel. Thank you for your super inspiring videos. I will continue to follow your journy. You are a great couple! Greetings from Switzerland.
Those two weeks seem a long time waiting for your superb video. Enjoying South Africa.
Loving the amazing videos of your travels around the world 🌍. The boat handling skills you both have from your dingy racing days are just stunning. Really great to see your buddy for this episode. I drove this exact model when working in the States (sold as the VW Rabbit - Golf) in 1985!!!
Really enjoyed the video...Thank you for sharing. Never seen this part of Africa.....Thank you for letting all of us enjoy your trip.
Wow! Beautiful views in SA! Thank you so much for the great video.
Sourh Africa is incredibly beautiful! I think this place has captured your hearts! I also think you'll be back someday. That car loan has allowed you to see much more of SA than you would have otherwise. Just enjiy your posts so much!
Glad that you enjoyed South Africa. Your videos are export quality😊
awesome!!!!!!!!!! waited 2 weeks checking every day to watch this !!!!! On West Coast side - safe ports are Langebaan lagoon / Saldanha / Mykonos Marina and Port Owen
Your video’s never fail to disappoint, always a treat. Your both just as fun on land as on water…
Spectacular photography and composition.
Tot siens Liewe Land! Yours has been the most wonderful visit to my beloved homeland.
Beautiful country and scenery, excellent videography once again. You guys are raising the bar! Thanks for sharing.
Kind people who lent you the VW Golf, hope they are able to visit the UK someday.
Such a pity there aren't more well protected harbours around the coast. It would be a great investment for the region. Thanks fo the view and footage of the mountains, almost alpine.
It was worth the wait for the new episode ☺️ Just wanted to let you know guys your videos are not the usual Crappy, Shakey and Amaturish sailing vlogs on CZcams. Instead it's more like technically perfect Travel shows. Btw: watching 18:5 minutes was like 5 minutes. Not a dull moment ❤️
Great video Matt and Amy! you showcased the area so well, I wish you had more time available to spend there, but things don't always work out that way. Safe travels, and thanks for taking us along!
Yip, they just _have_ to come back!
What an amazing place! So beautiful.
10:49 and 11:17 are great shots of a Fresnel lens, which Wikipedia cites as being "the invention that saved a million ships."
Amazing views (and wine tasting (!)) in this episode to the point I almost forgot about Florence! I can see a new challenge coming on, Exploring Africa with Matt and Amy. Followed by Asia uncovered with Matt and Amy. Can't wait till the next episode! Take care, stay safe and thanks for the episode.
Greetings from Okeechobee,fl good job Yacht in better shape than When you left England. Be safe
Would love to meet you both one day, fair winds and all the best 🙏🏻
Well put!! I want to take my first trip ever to the UK to celebrate their homecoming.
Today's journey was great. The southern Atlantic is Big Water, good sailing.
Excellent!!, Top shelf people, I had no idea SA was so amazing. I would love a video of what the towns and people are like and would love to hear their accents, see their food and what their life style is like. As always fantastic photography, just love you guys. Thanks and I will see you on the next one. Good luck, fair winds and calm seas.😉🤩✌Good on ya mates!
Charles, come! We're here and we would love to see. you.
A land of 2 countries. The Wester Cape and the rest…
@@crispinswainstonharrison9042 *_ So True, the Western Cape is the last of a civilised South Africa.... Forget the rest which has become 3rd (or maybe 4th) World now! _*

Best sailing/travel channel out there! Love your posts!🇨🇦
So glad you had the time to see the beaty of SA. I live in Bettys Bay and yes, the wind howls here 90 percent of the time. Keep well and safe journey.
Awesome video. You made me homesick. My first car was a Golf Chico, brilliant little vehicles. It does not really need power steering, but I do hope you had aircon.
The air con is operated by the handles on the doors below the windows... ;-)
Hi Matt and Amy, another beautiful stunning video from the southermost tip of Africa and its vicinity. Iconic place , remote and pretty much uninhabited but gorgeous place. I wish I could visit it some day. Thank you for that awesome video, I wish you a safe trip back home to England, as you cross 8.000 miles over the Atlantic ocean on your Florence. A bear hug for both of you. Love you guys
Glad to hear you're a sailor Amy! Nothing like an anchor beer 🍺 / wine 🍷
I wish I had a drone when we were at that Africa monument/map. It was awesome up close, but that full perspective really was necessary too.
Another terrific video.
We'll matt, Amy what another great video I love your journey what a great legacy to show you kid's how ya'll took the bull by the horn, made things go right for both of you I love Cape Town my daughter lives there so I get to visit when ever I want, to see you tracking, explaining your journey for everyone watching is absolutely amazing you guy's be safe, keep enjoying yourselves because I'm injoying your journey with ya'll too 🤙
Another brilliant video.
Thanks for sharing Matt and Amy it was another excellent episode. Looking forward to seeing the next one. Take care and I hope florence is full of wine
You guys are amazing!!
Ah living the dream.
Fantastic video the scenery is amazing and the colours
are great 👍
Excellent episode 👌
Still in Cape Town? Visit CapeTown mountains, Cable cars going up. It's so beautiful there.
I'm sure Florence is in need of some TLC after so long on voyage, and having world-class chandleries and transportation networks are very nice luxuries. On with the boat project videos!
I love that car....
Apologizing to a VW Chico for taking it on dirt roads? Man, from 2001 to 2008 we drove our Chico all over the place. Thousands of kilometer of dirt roads, the Cape mountains, the Karoo, Namibia, the Drakensberg - to places only 4WDs get to otherwise. In one history-making episode, my wife gunned the diminutive engine up a steep gradient full of loose rock. We made it to the top stirred, not shaken. But the best thing was: the 4WD behind us got stuck, and had to backtrack for a second go! And it case you wonder: we packed three of us with mountain gear and food for a 3 week trip in this little wonder. Best car ever. Sounds like a F-35 inside when you approach 120km/h though.
They are awesome and very capable little cars :-) Plenty of character too.
@@SailingYachtFlorence Of course, you wouldn't want to do all that with a car you borrowed from good friends... Godspeed on your wonderful adventures! Your reports are fantastic.
Thanks for the video
Will follow u here from Norway... Soon there is summer here and me and my wife will explore the Norwegian coast, age coming, 72 and 73. The life is still great only sailing...
We might see you in 2024 as we plan to sail up the Norwegian coast then too.
@@SailingYachtFlorence Yes, may happen. We are roaming the coast here every summer.
The two of you are all time!!
Just saw a flash of it in the coming attractions, but we installed an emTrak AIS in our boat too -- love it, performs so reliably and doesn't cost a million dollars. Hope it works as well for you. It's been a great little unit for us.

This reminds me of Kaneho'e and the Ko'olau on O'ahu.
Loving it, watch for bilharzia.
I absolutely love your videos.. thanks for taking us along on your adventures!🙌
I just love your films, I look forward to themm all week. Take care and thank you!
Loved the views, another great video. Thanks for sharing your world with us!
Wonderful video guys. Thanks so much for your work, skills and great personalities
Excellent :)
As an avid sailor I’ve been enjoying your channel for some time. Spent many years living and sailing on the East African coast out of Dar es Salaam. Many trips to RSA for work and pleasure. Your current RSA stay focuses on the natural environment which is understandably very seductive and probably a great recharge of your batteries. But your past Asian episodes focused a lot on the local people. Are you planning to say what you feel about the massive wealth and lifestyle disparity that are easily overlooked in the beautiful western Cape province. From the reality of the Cape Town flats townships to the extreme wealth almost next door.
Thank you so much!!
That little Golf looks really smart. What year is she? I'm guessing that in view of the fact she has a choke, and no power steering she is not one of the last ones made. However, the condition looks really good. A credit to her generous owners.
Not sure what year she was but she looked after us well. Glad you referred to the car as a she :-) We were in disagreement over that one Amy reckoned the car was male, Matt was sure she was female!
@@SailingYachtFlorence *_ A motor car is always referred to as a "SHE" and any Wagon as a "HE" and that comes from olden times when a wagon, which all do, have an "Appendage" (Yoke) that represents a PEN!S and which a motor car does not! This is fact.... Go check. _*
@@SailingYachtFlorence *_ I think that model is a 2003/4 as the 1.4i was later than the 1600 (1.6) which I have since 2000 and still going VERY STRONG! _*
L’Agulhas. My home town 😁❤️
Amazing
Amazing video as always 👍
Safe travels!
