Doing night KP at Charleston AFB one night when the phone rang at 0100. Cook comes back and says 'Breaks over, 20 C-130s flying in and they want us to feed the crews." We figured about 90 crew in all. About half an hour later we hear this noise outside the doors. They bust open and a company of the 82nd comes in. That night 2 cooks and 3 KPs fed a battalion of GIs on their way to the DR. We gave them a good hot meal on 30 minutes notice. Got back to my room and 3 guys are sleeping on the floor. They had flown down from McGuire AFB N J during the night to augment the maintainers.
