I worked for Major Chuck Beresford cine photographer on one of these segments. The next to the Last segment was shot in Bolivia by two of my soldiers. DASPO Panamá.
Just got back from 3 weeks of driving around South Vietnam, Pleiku, BMT, the highlands, absolutely brutal but beautiful place......god bless all who served.

I also was part of the 18th Airborne Corps fighting in the Dominican Republic civil war 1965. We were going to jump into DR. We did not as airfield was secured. Damn good thing as the drop zone was a vineyard. Intelligence was 20 years old.

What an absolute brutal war this was. My father fought in Korea and then in Vietnam, he said Korea was horrific but Vietnam was an utter nightmare. I am proud of my father and all the soldiers that fought in Vietnam, I followed in his footsteps many years later and served and fought in a different conflict, none of it's ever any good

Vietnam was a French colony, not an English colony. The English were not involved in Vietnam.
Sean Nolan The British Military Government of Indochina does kind of look like involvement. The British administration fought against the Viet Minh 1945-1946 before handing over to the French. They even rearmed the Japanese to do this. Without British intervention, the communists would likely have over run the South, possibly preventing a French return and ultimately, the creation of a Southern government to request SEATO help against a communist intervention. However, whilst certainly ad how in the best British tradition, I’d certainly disagree with any notion of brutality against the British administration. And the only aspect of ad hoc that contributed to subsequent events was that these extemporations were successful.

I am not an American...but as long as the U.S. had forces in South Vietnam nothing major happened in the South and nobody invaded Saigon. Yes, casualties are a reality as in every war. 2 Americans vs 10 enemy soldiers that was the rate.
And the U.S. were fighting not only the VC and the NVA , but China, USSR, Laos, Cambodia and the corrupted South Vietnam government.
But I do agree the Americans shouldn't have been there in the 1st place, but they learned the hard way.
While it was an unwinable war from day one, the White House played a dirty game over it's troops and Army forces, that people will never forget!
At the end the Vietnamese soldiers fought for their home ground and it is understandable. The GI s fought for what? For what? I'll tell you exactly for what : For nothing!

Search and destroy were nothing more than searching for villagers not under the control strategic hamlet programs. The locals were tied to their villages by cultural and family ties. It's were there ancestors spirit lives. When the Vietnamese went home the American troops were ordered to kill and destroy the Vietnamese and their villages. They were labeled VC to justify the war crime. We called them slopes to degrade them so when the Americans murdered them they could report enemy killed on their paperwork.

@@TuanNguyenVan-ef7mh Back in 1969, I enlisted into the Army, and went to Vietnam as a common 11B Infantryman. My Company worked around the Hoc Mon Canal, from the Hoc Mon Bridge to the Saigon River. The enemy in the area were local VC. We stayed in a small hamlet, where the Canal intersected with the Saigon River, and became very friendly with the dwellers. I was reassigned up to the area around Tay Ninh. We tended to pair up, and my close buddy was a Chu Hoi, named “Howie. In January, 1970, I was shot at Nui Ba Den, and Howie was killed a few minutes later.
After I was discharged, 10 months later, after three surgeries. I returned to college, majored in Political Science, and took a couple of courses to try and figure out what happened. Two books which are still on my bookshelf helped shaped my conclusion. Ho Chi Minh; a political biography, by Jean Lacouture, and the Political Thought of Mao Tse Tung, by Stuart Schram. Some of my co-workers are refugees, and we have lunch together every few weeks.
