Reflections on Healing is my first 17 poem collection of poetry and photography.
The poems depict my journey towards healing from trauma on both an analytical and emotional level, as I tries to make sense of my experiences with difficult families, abusive relationships, mental health struggles and taking back control of my own body.
This collection includes the poem, Romb, about remaining childfree and the importance of bodily autonomy and choice for all AFAB people, which was first performed at Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts 2022 with Heard Collective.

I just want to say that I've been rooting for you to publish a poetry book for so long. I remember you saying in videos how you would practice writing poetry as you read other poets, keeping a journal nearby. And your love for poetry has always been apparent. I think anyone who has been following you for a while knows that this isn't an ego trip for you. It's something you're genuinely passionate about and something you've really worked on. I can't wait to get my copy. I'm so happy for you.

Publishing a book is such an amazing thing! It's one of my lifetime goals. I'm not really into poetry, but I might buy yours just to support. And maybe you'll get me into it!

Out of all the beautiful poetry that has been written, all of them had authors. No poetry ever wrote itself for it is impossible for anything to write or create itself.

Grabbing myself a copy and going to actually read it first before I say anything about it. I can tell no one has read it yet because there are a couple of GH stans on the US amazon tanking her reviews already. Hopefully the book is good so I can tell the trolls to eff off. Now that I think about it, i might do that anyway.
Oh. I hadn’t seen that. The one star review isn’t even someone who bought it and no one who won a copy has received it yet so they clearly haven’t read it :( I should have known this would happen. It just makes me want to delete everything and never try anything ever.

@@RachelOatesThat reviewer could have simply received the book as a gift from someone other than you. All writers get criticized, sometimes harshly, perhaps unfairly, but rarely because of some persistent personal vendetta.
@@RachelOates No don't do that, don't give your haters the satisfaction of giving up. Nothing will drive them up the wall faster than seeing your book sell and sell well. You have a twofer in this household, I watch for the science and religion and my wife devoures anything poetry related you do, she is getting a book for Christmas. The two poems you read for us made me cry and empathise with your story, within few minutes I felt a whole tornado of emotions that were not even my own and I was devastated, and I don't even know a single thing of poetry, damn! I understand that you are nervous as to how people will perceive your poetry after watching your videos critiquing other poets, but, personally, I think to critique somebody's work more harshly because that person critiqued other person harshly, is quite unfair and even a bit childish. I can critique something and still not be brilliant at it myself (in my opinion at least).
Reviews/Critique *shouldn't* be: Rachel Oates critiqued so and so, so she HAS to be better at writing poetry than so and so.
It *should* be: I purchased this book for this amount of money, was it worth it? Did I have an enjoyable read or did I get nothing out of this? Is this good, well crafted poetry? How does it compare to other poetry collections?
Criticism that is mostly dependant on the artist and not of the work of art, is poor criticism. At least in my opinion. So I really hope you won't be discouraged by that type of reviews.

I make about £1.50 profit per sale of my books too. However mine are a lot cheaper because they don't have pictures in. That really puts up the printing costs! After I've read it, I will try my best to write an honest and fair review. After all, you can always return the favour, as I sent you a couple of my books a while ago. I'm soo excited to read this! I went to order it though and I'm in Australia and can't get the US one and the UK one I can get but the postage is almost twice the cost of the book :( I will keep an eye out and hopefully there will be a better option at some point

11:23 It's not silly at all, when you've established yourself as a somewhat harsh critic of other people's poetry, to put out of a volume of your own actually takes quite some nerve, especially when you put as much of yourself into it. I don't think there's anything silly about being pleased with it.
