  • Showing you how I do water changes quickly and easily on my 220 gallon display tank. Big aquariums don't necessarily mean spending tons of time changing water as long as you have the right equipment.

    Awesome tips Steve. I'm definitely going to look into the quick disconnects. The 220 looks great as always.

    I bought a python at the end of last year. It was something I pick up in the store a dozen times but put it back. It was worth the cost given the time savings. I also picked up the hook to help with filling the tank. Great tips on the disconnects and like the "crazy" idea of the separate water line for the python. Multi-tasking is the way to go :)

    Great video 👍I'm due to do my first water change in a few days.. Is there something you can buy to get the water up To the right temp before it goes in the tank? Or will the fish be okay with tap water going in then getting to temp with the tank heater?

    I hang my hose outside my house and the gravity is sufficient to drain quickly but in comparison my tank is much smaller lol. But I don't like to waste water so I start siphon manually. BTW I like the quick disconnect attachments 👍

    nice video. I do have a question. We have gravel on the bottom of the tank. When we did a water clean with the tub to clean up the bottom of the tank, we lost 3 fish last time, due to ammonia I think, so we scared to clean the tank now... Have not change the tank for 1 month...We would like to clean the tank but scare to kill the fish. Could you please give me some suggestions? Thank you.

    Great, I had a similar problems. I brought PVC drain underneath the tank to drain by gravity and then had 2 pipes come back with clean water hot and cold to T type connections right to the tank full change was about 15 m. And I would just seat and watch. Drain tru 1 Inch PVC w valve thru the whole in the aquarium and water comes back from the back of the aquarium.

    I wanted to ask a question on evaporation, i have a 55 gallon with two hob filters a air stone and heater at 82 the tank is covered,im losing about an inch of water in a week,is that normal or a leak that i cant seem to find

    • @StevePolandAquatics
      @StevePolandAquatics  Před 6 lety +1

      +Todd T do you have it covered with glass tops? If so, you should make sure that the plastic strips at the back are as snug as possible.

    • @toddt6730
      @toddt6730 Před 6 lety

      Steve Poland Cichlids the only opening is for the hob filters and there very close to the plastic

    • @sitherasenanlingam8108
      @sitherasenanlingam8108 Před 6 lety

      Todd T sometimes bro... the small droplets that scatter during the inlet of hob filter. Goes away. Hence the change in gh or kh due to evaporated water should be negligible. But do a few tests to confirm this. For you to take the decision between using RO water or normal water to top it off.

    Dude. We do,water changes almost identically. ´Great minds? Lol. I've even done the inch comparisons with these multiple ways and also with multiple pumps. I've noticed the Gph ratings on the pumps are criminally over rated. Maybe they test them on a slope or down hill lol. I'm obsessively always looking for faster pumps and faster way to do this. Your snap connectors for the garden hose is a new tip amd idea I had not considered. Thanks for sharing.

    Adding untreated tap water is safe?? I would think you would need to remove impurities from the tap water with a conditioner and also get the water to the proper PH before adding that amount to the tank, no?
