75 Gallon African Cichlid Tank Water Change BEST WAY!

- In this video, I show you the absolute best way to change water in a bigger tank. If you are tired of carrying 5 gallon buckets and making several trips, then you will love this method. It take 2 minutes to setup, about 5 minutes to drain and 5 to refill, and 2 minutes to cleanup. But its sooo easy and there's no accidentally spilling the buckets...
Wow I've been draining down my tanks for years and had many mouthfuls of dirty tank water after sucking on a hose. This method is amazing your going to heaven for doing this video, top man🤓
Great video man 👍🏼
Nice project!👍
sweet idea DUDE!!!
i like that DIY siphon makes it quick and easy. something you might be interested in try is using a female to male adapter on your bathroom sink's faucet, i have exactly the same style faucet and with that adapter on it, it does not need an aerator/screen thing so I can just leave it on there and just simply attach my garden hose when im ready to fill it back up. that way you would not have to manually screw off that screen and then manually screw on the the hose adapter everytime you want to connect the hose to the faucet. might look like shit lol but it does save a few minutes per waterchange
Brad, I love your tank background! Did you make it or purchase? Please tell, that is exactly what I have been wanting.
nice i will definitely try it out.
Had a heck of a hose kink in the sink - could add a 90 degree elbow there. Otherwise good setup!
Interesting idea to save time. I have the South American Cichlids: an oscar and parrot fish in a 55 gallon tank, but I use my hose to the faucet outside. I don't like the dramatic water temperature change that can cause shock and kill my fish. I bought a 75 gallon tank and will be putting in African Cichlids which I am sure are very susceptible to shock from an extreme temperature change. Your idea is great for getting the right water temperature with minimal fuss. Thanks for sharing.
Do you have a parts list so i can recreate this system?
great video wish you would have added a parts list...
Brad, interested to know what your background material is. Looks like real stone.
Like your tank fill & empty ideas - good job
Brilliant! Have you come up with a way to add a gravel vacuum to this method?
What about the pressure from the sink to tank when you where taking water out? Cause with my python siphon I had a little flood when the connection from the tap got disconnected because of the water pressure.
do you add conditioner after the water change?
You are a FUCKING genius!! Yes, dude....
Awesome.. I'll be making one of those for sure!! Did you have to consider the weight on the floorboards for your tank? Looks like you are on the second floor. I have a new 125gal.. A little concerned about the weight stressing the floor
Actually it was a closed in garage, so it was on a slab. But in my new house it is on the second floor now above my garage.
Need help. I did a similar build but water is not siphoning. Could the problem be the length of the water hose. I have a 50ft and 100ft. The 50ft is a water hose and the 100ft is one of those store bought siphon. And I put the double shut off valve on the sink instead of the way you did it. I get water coming out of both but can not get it to siphon. And oh I broke down the store bought one to just the hose and gravel cleaner when I tried it. Help please????
that's the same thing I do with water change. pretty easy
That background is incredible!!! Universal Rocks???
Eric Wilson Universal me! i built it from foam
Great video. Can I use this method if my tank is in my basement and I use my kitchen sink that's upstairs?
You won't have a problem adding water but you may have a problem draining it.
Great video Brad. Would this work if the y valve was attached to the faucet and the 2 tapped pipes were leading to the tank and the other out the window?
Yes but if the hose to the window is too long, its going to be hard to start the siphon
+Brad von Oven it's only 3feet long as it goes to the toilet next to the faucet. The hose to the tank is 20 feet.
Hey where did you find those rock at?
There's usually not so much chlorine in municipal water to damage the nitrification process seriously. I've been adding water from the hose for years and it never affected my water parameters much. I used to have a DIY system similar to this but then I got a german "JBL aqua in-out" which uses a "vacuum pump" to reverse the water flow, so you can use a single hose first to drain water from your tank right into your bath, kitchen sink or washbasin, and then to fill up the tank from the tap it is attached to. There's also a US system made by a company called Python, there's not much difference between the two.
I would use better quality hose or clear aquarium hose.
Vare nais . Thanks.♡♥♡
It doesnt seem safe to let tap water with chlorine run into ur tank, and then throw the dechlorinator in afterwards?
+JoAnn Griefnow What if fish swim over to the area where the fresh water is being added and get their gills full of chlorinated water, dont they die?
Brad, what were the dimensions of all those pipes and the 3 way connectors? i'd like to build something like that.. please let me know the sizes of everything you got there. thank you
Ben.
5/8 for the adapters and 3/4 pvc.
thank you Brad.
what about the benefical nitrafying bacterias your killing off as you add water to the tank without dechlorinating it first before adding it? is it that minor of a kill off?
I would definitely say its how chlorinated your tap water is, I've never had a problem adding it afterwards.
never de-chlorinate the water beforehand either.. never had an issue.
You don't add salt to the African cichlid's water?
@@robertweir5755 they dont need salt. if its a ph or hardness issue you can use crushed coral in your filter and your substrate, using rocks like ocean rock or aragonite as hardscape can help buffer the ph and water hardness aswell.
Dude, just get yourself a Python. it does the same thing only with one hose, plus you can vacuum the gravel at the same time.
cichlid62 i like this better. I store my waste water in a drum for watering the garden
@@michaelleckman6555 Agreed! Can't understand why people throw that down their sanitary systems. That can be use to re-fertilize plants! lawls!
What about vacuuming out the wastes???
Sharon Sutlovich get a hozelock repair connector and add the syphon to one end and hose to other.
I don’t vacuum my tanks that’s left to the clean up crew and bb to break down all vacuuming does is kill bb and kick a bunch of junk into the water column
Are those connections for air compressors? I’m gonna build a similar contraption for my gator but hard line with pvc to my basement wash tub
How much are you saving by doing this DIY Vs. buying a Python water changer?
Peeking Turtle cheaper imo and your waste does not go back in your sink.
What about my 120 salt water tank?>
go gators! and african cichlid lovers :)
worst thing to do add dechlorinator straight to the tank
Been doing that for years my fish are 10 years old never had a problem
they call them elbows...lol
man just get u a bucket and a water pump and call it a day...aint like u got a 300 gallon
you guy's dont have clorine in your water ...i would NEVER do that here. i would fu..up my cycle good .....
I would say i do but very little. Been doing this for over a year. i really should do an update. my tank is much different now and i've changed my system a bit.
